  1. I'm starting to get bass rattles in the passenger door/dash area (by the side demister grille and front right speaker). At first I thought I had blown a speaker but realized it is just plastic buzzing.
  2. Very. 10/10 I would do it all over. The only thing that would improve it would be the 10 speed auto instead of the demented 8 speed behind it. Presumably, any of the new ones would have the remediated part which failed repeatedly on mine as the part number has changed.
  3. I'm at 6,400 miles and counting. Every weekend I've had mine has been spent with the boat behind it for at least 300 miles - and this thing is an absolute champ in the mountains. I could not be happier with how it tows. I'm still very soured on the whole experience with this wiring harness clusterf*. I can't go into too many details right now, but GM refused to buy back my truck even though it spent more than 30 days in the dealer's possession over issues related to the wiring harness. I ended up hiring an attorney and we have settled out of court over it for enough to allow me to trade for something else and not lose anything. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet (waiting on the Ecodiesel Grand Cherokees to come out in Q4 and may go buy myself a Summit, or I may sit on the settlement as I have a wedding and honeymoon that I need to plan for). The truck is running fine now - although I don't trust the repairs. GM shot my new car experience to hell and I hate to say it but they have lost me a a customer (a very brand loyal customer who buys 2 new cars every other year at that...).
  4. Yesterday I got in the truck to go somewhere and noticed that my volume down button on the wheel was not clicking and felt kind of mushy. It worked one time to turn the audio down, and then I noticed that it was floppy and not returning. It's actually stuck pressed - so you can't use any of the steering wheel audio controls (if you use the faceplate controls they override the wheel until the next time you touch anything on the wheel and then they become authoritative). If I hit a bump in the road it activates and turns the volume down all the way as well. It's not physically stuck in there as you can make it jiggle - but the micro switch behind it is stuck. I am supposed to drop it off tonight. I believe this makes day 27 of various warranty repairs. Have any of you experienced this?
  5. Hmm, so bringing up the autobahn... curious how many km you have under your belt driving on them?
  6. I’ve never been paranoid myself and would like to think I am understanding. I knew I was buying a first year truck, with a first year powertrain and while inconvenient - expected some minor issues. What I did not expect was a total damn meltdown that left everyone scratching their heads. The powertrain is amazing - the wiring to it, not so much. The whole thing just makes me sad. I’m not pissed, I’m sad.
  7. Just 87. There’s no recommendation for 91 either. Try one out - I have a feeling you’ll like it!
  8. It’s not irrational, it’s common sense. I realize you are severely lacking in that department, but try to mull on it a bit. If 10 cars are going 80 in the same direction it is a smooth flow. If 9 cars are going 80 and 1 jackass is going 55, 9 other cars have to take maneuvers to avoid the jackass. It doesn’t take an engineering degree (although I have 2...) to understand this concept.
  9. It will pull about mid 18s to 19 flat... it definitely drinks when it is working. It’s quiet aside from some turbo whistle and a bit of exhaust growl when it pops out of 8 on steep inclines.
  10. People who don’t go with the flow of traffic create a larger hazard. I see it every day. I’m not sure where you live, but I presume it isn’t a major metropolitan area, let alone one of the most challenging areas to drive in in the US, as I do. Im glad you’re proud of your 97 cubic inches that you have over me. There is a replacement for displacement - It’s called forced induction. Why don’t you go start a 4.3 liter fan club thread?
  11. I’m in the DC metro area. The speed limit on most of I-270 and the beltway is 55, average speeds are in the 70-75 range. My cruise was set on 83 this morning going with traffic on the toll road (speed limit 60). Obviously I was driving to get to work and not to save wear and tear on the fuel gauge. I see people in the left lane get passed on the left shoulder at least once a month. Trying to drive like Grumpy does around here will get you killed.
  12. Praise Jesus... someone else saying it besides me.
  13. It’s also horribly unrealistic advice. Driving like that where I live will incite rage at best and get you run off the road at worst. My time is worth more than money. The funny thing is that fuel economy was about #5 in my reasons for ordering the 2.7... not really a consideration, more of a fringe benefit.
  14. Only it's not really applicable in this case. People need to know the subject they are discussing. We're not talking a small 2.0L engine being pushed to its limits here (looking at you, Volvo XC90...). It's a large bore, long stroke truck engine that is putting out a relatively low amount of HP for its displacement (in terms of boosted 4 cylinders). It is overbuilt for what it is, and it's set up to work like a diesel - pulling from low revs, and it doesn't need/like to be wound out (it redlines at 5,700 RPM - I've personally never had mine pass 5,000 before shifting). It would be a terrible flop in something like a Camaro or a car based SUV. It's a purpose built truck engine with a character that suits a truck -
  15. 23.1 this morning when I got to work. Best I have seen over 400 was 23.4 but that was on a road trip with a combination of flat and mountain driving and I was pushing low 70s much of the way. Like any turbo - if you get heavy handed with it, it guzzles gas - but it does seem to be very responsive to a light foot returning good numbers. I tend to be a bit of a hypermiler - coasting down to lights and using the pulse glade technique on flat highways when I am not in cruise. I live in the DC Metro - so my driving consists of a lot of stop and go in heavy traffic, and a lot of rather aggressive highway. My 2.5 liter Colorado with a tune, manual transmission and 4.10 rear struggled to get out of the upper teens overall and regularly would get 12-13 around town, so this is a much more relaxed and welcome improvement.
  16. I'll believe a 4.3 getting 27+ MPG when I see it.
  17. 2,800 miles in so far. Averaging 23.1MPG, best of 25.9 over 25 miles. Tows my 4,100lb boat like it isn't back there at all - particularly through the Blue Ridge mountains in Western MD. I couldn't be happier so far. After about 800 miles, the engine note changed a bit and is more of a low grumble most of the time. I find it pleasant to hear when you do (when it is cold it is loud, however), but it doesn't enjoy being pushed past 4,500 RPM, and really does not need to be often at all. It needs the 10 speed behind it though... whoever let the 8 speed out the door with the shift logic that it has needs taken out and shot.
  18. And your purpose posting in a section for 1/2 tons is?
  19. I’m completely fine in my choices. This thread is quite obviously titled to be a positive discussion about the 2.7. Your posts have added no value to the thread.
  20. Great! I’m glad you know what you like. I need to find that 5.3 or 6.2 fan club thread so I can go post in it now about how they are thirsty and outdated. Wait, I’ll have the respect of not doing that...
  21. Ah ok. So you haven’t driven one. Point made. I’ve got 2 other turbos sitting in my garage - one of which is known for its lag. Twin turbo is not the only solution to lag - dual volute is working quite well with this engine. Again, I’ve driven it, I’m not going on outdated ideas here. Had the boat behind it earlier actually, bringing it home for some fun tomorrow. Not a bit different than going down the road unloaded. The boys at TFL didn’t have any noticeable lag when running fully loaded either. It’s a pretty legit tool considering it pulled the Ike at its limit in the same time that the 6.2 did at its limit. Sounds pretty well matched to the truck to me. The 3.6 sounds like garbage and pulls like garbage. It’s nowhere near the same class as this... I’ve owned one of them as well.
  22. How many miles have you got under your belt behind the wheel of a Silverado with the 2.7 so far? I’m curious when I’m going to start experiencing my turbo lag.
  23. Just crossed the 500 mile mark on the way home from work last night (and I picked it up last Saturday... yeesh!) Aside from it riding like an ox cart (I have 22’s, so I expected it) and the 8 speed being the relative garbage that it is, I am in love. Not a single complaint about the engine.
