Have a 2010 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 LC9 motor. Truck has 198K miles on it, runs excellent, engine is very quiet, but uses a little oil. For the past year, maybe year and a half, I've been running a Range AFM deactivator cause I'm scared to death of AFM issues. Past few weeks it sometimes blows a good sized cloud of blue smoke at startup, not every time, just once in a while. Around the same time I installed the Range I also installed the updated left valve cover. Anything else I can do to stop/lessen the smoking? PCV oil separator tank?
I just picked up a 5.3 out of a 2012 Colorado with only 19K miles on it. This is an LH9, which near as I can tell is the same engine but without the AFM. Looks like the oil pan, pickup, and exhaust manifolds are different, anything else I need to swap over? I plan to have a tuner delete the AFM from the ECM. Anybody else done this swap?
I love the truck, It's a loaded LTZ in real nice shape, and I'd like to keep it for at least 5 more years. TIA, Jim
