check tailgate wiring if you remove gate those mirrors you speak of dont work you can get a harness to plug in with a camera and mount it under truck to make camera system work again but gm needs a better fix considering the cost of camera system people with truck campers remove gate to install camper and find this out the hard way love the truck but did not expect this problem when purchased
