  1. Right and I agree, like I said my question is a little dumb but my concern is if it binds up from being in contact to old crud build up from not cleaning it ? What would happen then?
  2. Hello all, I realize this question is a little dumb but I’m needing peace of mind. I’m by no means mechanically inclined but after having done some reading in forums, I found a (fingers crossed) solution to my oil consumption problem. I replaced my drivers side valve cover with the updated version, however upon installation, I made a careless mistake. I ran a little bit of oil on the gasket but I forgot to clean the surface before installing the new valve cover. (Stupid, I know.) The tutorial i was following said to make sure to clean it or it runs the risk of “binding”. What does this mean? Is it worth taking it off to clean it? I know taking it off can potentially mess with the gasket so I wanted to check with people that have more experience/knowledge. I’m aware this is kind of a dumb question, but I’m a first time owner and this is my first time ever installing anything like this. Just not sure what would happen if it “binds”. So please let me know your thoughts on that. So far no leaks, It’s running good, but just wanted to hear others’ opinions on that as I haven’t found anything on this (probably because no one made that careless mistake.) My main issue before fixing my valve cover was blue smoke puking out of the exhaust upon startup. It was on and off, sometimes it would be a ton of smoke and sometimes none at all. My mechanic told me he “thought” it could be my cylinders and piston rings but that he wasn’t sure, and was shoving a new block in my face. I didn’t want to accept that that was the issue, because my truck really runs great. After replacing the valve cover, I replaced it on June 23rd ‘21, it’s been 2 days now, I haven’t seen any blue smoke, so it seems my problem has been resolved, though I am going to keep an eye out for any issues. Now that I’ve replaced the valve cover, I was also wanting opinions on disabling AFM with a tuner, I’m looking at a Diablo Intune I3. Also, should I consider a catch can? I’ve been on the fence about that. Some say it’s necessary and some say it’s not. Thoughts? Also, a cold air intake? I was told it helps too. Any other suggestions and advice to further help with the oil consumption issue is greatly appreciated. thank you in advance, I appreciate anyone that’s taken the time to read my novel, and is patient with a first timer like myself
