Checking in 1yr looking back
Leonardo Willi replied to Leonardo Willi's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Yep, the real miles, almost 3700 today, been driving it a bit more than normal cause I just love it. My 16' I traded in was 7 years old and had 13K. I'm used to catching crap from all my buddies on my truck miles - but my 16' Impala has 130K Truck does a lot of "truck" stuff towing the boat, hauling stuff -

@UWSkier Cool writeup! I agree and don't with lots of those cons - Size, I had to laugh because no kidding! Days of reaching into a cooler for a beverage are over. Nope, now, pull down the staircase built into the tailgate. HAHA! Not sure a milk crate will be high enough to ck the oil. But the ride? man, compared to my 16 reg cab LB 2500? The difference in ride, road noise, solid feel? It's best ever, but I've never owned a Denali either Or a 1500. The Trans~hell yeah! Incredible. Power? You feed it, she puts it back out....but she's a thirsty one. I have the eq pkg to Z71, X31???... Had it on my 16' also. Totally agree on the ****** shocks. And the decades old steering? I feel ya. And I totally agree on the stereo - absolute ****** for me. I don't hear so well and cranked to max still sucks. And the screen? goofy ****** it does? ... just annoying. And Hell yeah to custom dash layout options! open source DL's could be amazing! Btw, get your recall notice on the tailgate? Must have the parts now, got a call from my dealer this week. One more - on backing uphill, no lockout for that? Reminded me of backing up my lake boat with hyd surge brakes. Pain in the ass. -
It's been a whole year since getting the 24 Sierra and hooking up with all you folks at the time. WOndering when the hell, if ever, could we, ever buy a damn truck. But I guess, it all works out. It's been all good for me, hope it's been tolerable for all the rest. My sales rep called, we talked a while she said I've almost got it work out so we need to place an order in case it takes 2 years again. I reminded her it wasn't that bad, only 19 months, 2 extra doors, not a Chevy and not the red I wanted. Other than that it was perfect! HAHA! ... But the 24' she's been good so far. It lovingly accepts all the fuel offered up, thirstily asking for more. But damn, what a ride for a 2500, it's impressive. I got a lot of great advice from you all, and it meant a lot. Like the brakes. Kinda sucked at first but sure enough, 1500/2000 miles absolutely, stops with authority. Power has improved, not so much the consumption. I see there's a recall on the tailgate latch - kind of knew that was coming. I added a cover. Going on a trip to the east costs to bring back a cabinet in couple weeks. I do have a question! ... What ya think about the steering? Sometimes, I feel like the steering is a little heavy.... Maybe I need to play with the air? bout the only thing I can do. It's heavier than my 16' was I really feel. Other than that, best to all!

Tailgate spontaneously opening
Leonardo Willi replied to jsward12's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Dad's 56' Ford and a couple of my Granddad's trucks of my first memories had the best ever. Couldn't go wrong with hook and chain. I've had a Ford and a Chevy both take a crap but, they were both 100K plus trucks, stuff is going to happen. Mostly it was dry rotted, brittle plastic parts like those rod retainers. I don't see these fancy electric tailgates being anything but a pain in the ass with some age and use on them. But in defense overall, I've had vehicles hold up, last, and be pretty trouble free like nothing in the past. They build pretty good stuff these days when they get it right. Which they then decide it's smart to change what works LOL! I have absolute faith I can get the miles out of my Chevy's like people only expected from a Honda Accord. But that doesn't mean you don't have to feed them. Had to puts a trans in my 16' Impala last year at 115K miles but I didn't wait till I was sitting on side of the road. So, 5 grand in 7 years besides tires and brakes? Not bad - Oh, and the electric trunk release assm 2 months ago LOL! But you'd think, they could get a freaking tailgate latch nailed and bulletproof. I haven't plugged my holes yet but I will. -

Yes - it's in there - It's in the personalized settings. just as Ivalent posted. -
Sounds like you have a "dealer" problem more so than a ordering problem while both can be true at the same time. It's all down to the dealer you go to having an allocation for your spec. I've been away from here for a bit so wanted to check in and it seems to be the same kinds of issues. I had a 19mo wait, but a great, smaller dealer who's sold wife and I a handful last 5-6 years. We're in farm country so everyone sells lots of truck around here but I still had to wait and had to compromise but in the end, it all worked out for the best and absolutely LOVE the 10spd/6.6 gasser. But even though I waited 19 months, if that is what came out of their mouth over a scratch, and they buggered it up with the nail polish bottle - I'd tell them to get f'd also. But it all comes down to building a relationship quick with someone you can trust. In the auto biz, that's a tall ask.

2024 GMC Sierra Startup Graphic Animation
Leonardo Willi replied to athompson99's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
So you mean, you don't get the cool gfx and it goes straight to the dash layout? Denali is pretty cool! I see there's a new update, haven't DL mine yet - wasn't after that was it? Most times I just hit the button, but there's times, I like a little bit of a show -

I edited it, a little smoother, same thing simpler. IDK man, I was catching up, reading through everyones thoughts and there's times sht just hits me a certain way, sht comes out. I found that falling back on this kind of approach is what got me through my long wait for the truck. And all said and done, I've found supporting data to say, it was worth the wait and I prospered from it, which actually happened in my case. All that doesn't mean it didn't suck waiting 19 months, because of course it was a f'n roller coaster. But, like all roller coasters they eventually roll into the house on the brakes -

I look at it like this, being of a certain vintage where coming of age and entering the world with bright eyes and wonder, during the 80's for me. It's a bell curve. We're young, ambitious, creative critical thinkers. We question the system but become a piece of it because it's in our best interest. Doesn't mean we don't care because we do but we come to realize what our actual super powers are and become at peace with a body of work quantifying what we've accomplished. Now on the other side of the bell wisdom has replaced naivety and accept and embrace, the most simple, perfect and all encompassing path to positivity. the "Serenity Prayer" ~ Or we don't and waste energy that could be focused elswhere. I sold green and yellow tractors. I went from order to delivery 6 months normally. But you had to order them in a specific ordering window once a year, which lasted 6 to 8 weeks, just depended on what. Then, commodity prices went up, farmers had money, ordering was hot, then covid hit - 6 months went to 12-18 months, no guarantees, no price locking. "Give us an order (which is legally binding - but total BS threat) We'll build it when or if and we'll know the price when it's ready" that is almost an exact quote. Prices were going in 5-7% jumps. That's a lot of jack on $3-400k - and my point of all this is, JD stocks did not go down through all of it as a whole. Had this happen before when economy took a dump, early 20-teens right after a boom. Stocks went up. Yep, it's a lot of hard to swallow fact, but there's a lot worse things could end up in your mouth ~ that's glass half full -

Ordered my retirement truck
Leonardo Willi replied to Fishfighter's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Grats on the decision. As a guy who's owned a lot of vehicles from the big 3, I'm going out of this world solid on GM - and I think I got my forever truck (I really really do) My thoughts have always been exactly as you've stated - better to have too much truck. I pulled a decent boat, around your weight, mine was 65-6700 with a 3500 Silverado 7.4L ext cab long bed - Best decision I ever made because I was in command always and that's a comforting feeling. I like your long WB thinking - longer the wheelbase, the better a puller it is imho. Your going to love the 10spd trans and big fuel tank- it tricks you into thinking that $120 fill-up goes really far Yah, paint has been an ongoing issue. I wanted Volcanic red but after as long as I waited I caved with my backup of black. If I was guessing, it's going to be a while before 25's because the 24's were so early. I think the biggest changes will mostly be a price increase. Best of luck getting it done! I waited 19months, and it was worth all the pain, absolutely worth it if for nothing else than the 10spd trans. IT's smooth as soft butter in July~ -
Thought I'd check in with some "1000 miles thoughts" on the 24' Sierra - I feel like the fuel consumption is ticking up a fuzz. Power seems to be a little crisper and most of all, the brakes are certainly picking up their game. Now I just saw that necro thread about soft brakes - I didn't have it as bad as some others, but it wasn't the feel I was used to with the 16'. Jet I think said, "give it 2000 miles" sounds right. If I had a complaint it would be my confidence keeping it between the lines. I feel like I'm still sketchy getting used to the little bit more WB with this dbl cab. I might play with tire pressures and see it that helps. If I had to express what I'm feeling, it would be the front end feels just a bit off with input/response and maybe overall feel. I was expecting the 20's with a shorter sidewall would be crisper compared to the 18" on the 2016'. Anyhow, going for first oil change in the morning. 1000 miles should have all the loose particles and whatever hopefully isn't in there flushed out. And if I'm being honest, the new tech in the infotainment center (dash screen) is still annoying because the operator hasn't put in much effort to learning about it. One last ******, and I saw someone else say it - the fan speed for heat/air - I would rather a knob, like the radio instead of this button in a strange place. Who was it said "Great position for a oompa loompa" ??? - (which I had to look up and laughed) ~ Yep - nailed it! And everything is all black, my vision sucks and gotta put glasses on once in a while since I cant read wtf is what until I learn it like brail Overall, yeah, buttons, controls, all seem to be lower. All in all, if that's the worst ****** I have? that's pretty good. I'm a glass half full person and fit the category of "best type customer ever" because I've done the job and understand how the system works.
-
Sounds like I might look like a high miler' compared to you going forward. 13,700 on my 16' recently traded. Didn't sit inside but our rule was driving it every couple weeks, keeping full of gas and washed every 4-6 weeks. In winter, where we used it when snowy, and washed it sometimes twise a week. Changed oil once a year. last time in Mar, less than a 1000 miles on last change. I sold farm equipment for 17 years - I can say with absolution, sitting doing nothing is the worst thing possible. If it sits too long, squatters will move in

So Jet, how many configs you got saved on "Build Your Own" ??? Ya know what them discounts mean right? more "stuff" ~ just sayin....sounds like the fishin is hot You one of them famed "lunker" types? you been attracted but the perfect bait just aint crossed in sight yet? DOn't know about your area, but used prices are still stupid as hell and inventory so spotty. Still some game left in this rare moment. I went by the dealer I bought Big Red from in 2016, also got the Impala there. The place looks like it's about to go out of business. They don't have hardly anything new. couple rows of used stuff along the road with terrible looking acres of bare asphalt. Then, the GMC dealer where I got this one, hard to find a place to park - 90% trucks. So hit and miss and market is everything. All farm country here so trucks are always in demand. -

HAHA! Yeah, I noticed that - you got the only non-blk/wht/silv on the lot from that photo I know a guy who got an order for the red I wanted, volcanic I think this model? on a Chevy crew/LB LTZ - So some paint showed up, for a little while at least. That was a couple weeks ago. -

WTF? I wonder if it's the LWB frame/driveline? They were building that config gangbusters right at the start of the 24's if ya wanted a crew - Hell, who knows, they are juggling so many suppliers from all over the planet and everyone's got issues somewhere at some point. That's got to be a "life sucking out of the soul" kind of job riding in the middle of that picnick. -
I have a small complaint about the new truck. Finally, I can honestly say, there is something that's a bit of a let down. Maybe it's my trim lvl? higher models have better? IDK, maybe someone can enlighten me there. These big mirrors, they seem to me to be big hollow plastic recycled milk jugs. I flipped them out to wide stance while towing a water tank, didn't really need to just wanted to try it. Not impressed - do they work? yep, Do they operate? yep Do they do the job? yep.....When flipped out, I did get some movement out of them on back country roads. So just to be sure I was still an objective (mostly) unbiased and not an unrealized fan boi without context, I think they're kind of crap. The best logic I can come up with is, they will rip off easily sacrificing themselves for the body/doors by intentional design of lightest, thinnest, cheapest piece of crap that will meet minimum parameters. For me, they just don't hold the same level of design and quality of the rest of the package - What say Ye? I need a "Cool Hand Luke" moment to get my mind right?

Oh wow - Haven't seen that mentioned in forever. The first new truck my dad ever bought was a Luv. Never forget that thing. He called the color baby ****** yellow, want to say 1974. He bought it because he was driving 90 minutes into DC for work and gas was on the rise with the oil embargo and you could only get gas on even/odd days depending on your lic plate number. It was harder on my mom, she had a 69 Thunderbird with a 428 I remember sitting in those gas lines with my sisters - wasn't fun. You could drive a couple days on a good handful of quarters. That little Luv was a tough little thing and never ever had problems with it.
-
I think it was a comment you made on some order discussions somewhere where you mentioned doing the tailgate delete on your order - cause I was going, "A High Country? No, they put all the sht on those" so I went back into the BYO and went "sht! Right there it is!" like 2 weeks after my order went in - I honestly, was never interested in it, but thought that's what ya get so my bad.
-
My first thought was "scroll through the pages on your instrument cluster and ck the brakes".... You got that option right? I don't have a clue how or if it really works, but I've seen some numbers come up on the dash. I believe it about as much as any politician but there's even some of them that are honest so who knows, maybe it's real - I'm not from Oklahoma, but the rule still applies I agree with run hard and drive it like it's paid for - it is, and I do, still I believe it will last forever if I do my part and it will be my last truck ever....Odds are good I'll look back and laugh at that, but I don't want to. Good example - Wife bought a new Taurus (our one and only new Ford anything) but it was an awesome car, beautiful, comfy, loaded to the max. It was and is, the only Ford I ever truly loved a little since a Pinto I had back in the 80's - "tough little sht I beat the snot out of it) One day I took it to the store, it seemed a little "doughy" "doggy" ~ so I hit some desolate back roads and stomped on it, aired it out - when I mashed on the gas it looked like a diesel truck rolling coal - fricken cat's needed to get hot and blown out - good lord wish I had a video of that. Wife putts easy, drives like they tried to teach us in drivers ed - Good way to plug up an exhaust and blow a grand on repairs. Point being, there is merit to ride em like you stole it now and then, let em breath a little. Way I see it, if it can't take a little hard running now and then I don't want it cause it's a POS ~ Keep them cats cleaned out! or if ya got wheelbarrows of spare cash and no idea what to do with it, drive it like you wear rubber shoes and have a manbun. It's your money.
-
Guess I need to investigate this? Actually, I feel like a dumbass because I didn't know you could do a delete on the thing with an SLE for a standard gate. It seems kind of mickey mouse to me, little sloppy, loose I guess? And the one zinger I noticed right off the bat - DO NOT EVER drop both gates with anything in the receiver hitch. Today I thought "wonder if there's a lockout option to prevent this quite easy to do disaster?" Don't think there is, but I like the idea. You could have an "oops" really easy.

Black Beauty got her first real workout today filling the pool. First I hauled 3 loads with bed tank, bout' 27/2800 pounds loaded. Then grabbed a 1000 gal tank from a farmer bud to speed things up. Tank in bed w/trailer loaded, right about 14,000 pounds hauling and pulling/stopping. I think I originally said it and I'll say it again - although I had certain expectations for this much of an upgrade/improvement, I'm a little impressed with things I didn't think I'd notice or really thought of. much of it comes down to just the solid feel of the truck. * Pulling? piece of cake. I punched the "towing" button on, shifts way different up and down, VERY firm. * Stopping? - that's a load back there and if I have to pick one over the other? my 2016' stopped a hell of a lot better doing the same job with the same tanks. These old water tanks have no brakes, it's all truck. * Power? for me in my situation, the 6.0 had plenty, 6.6 has plenty as well, but she's a heavy drinker - I'll be done tomorrow, fill back up and do some math. I used trip2 for data to play with. I'm pretty flat here, straight roads and I set cruise to 55 loaded. It just purred, drank a lot, but hummed along. * Silent, smooth and plush - that's how I'd describe the ride under load. My 2016 reg cab/LB had a funny harmonic feedback thing in the driveline when loaded. It was a minor thing that only happened with a particular set of conditions, but it was there, and I had read about it with others. Maybe it's that coffee can sized aluminum driveshaft, or not, but nothing. No driveline vibes, feedback or funky quirks like that. Up 700 miles now - "Still Lovin' It" and one funny little thing I caught myself laughing at myself - couple times grabbed the door for the back seat and went "Hmmm, no steering wheel behind door #2 try again" Acclimation, all acclimation.
-
I have to agree on how tall they are making them - I wanted to go through the car wash couple days ago, stopped at the office first, went in and asked "will this thing fit through here?" the guys all said "Hell yeah, pull her in" ... I measured in the driveway, an eyeball with a tape on the gravel and figure I need 6"10" to be cool with room to spare. Yah, I can pull it into the garage, but after wife added a second fridge and upright freezer, still a couple feet of that 8' bed hanging out
-
1 month down, 600 miles and first wash today. I'm VERY impressed with how well it washed up with whatever that magic potion paint protectant is they charge ridiculous money for, absolutely admit, it does something. Kind of impressed. Wifey actually drove it, she had to haul some copper pipe to a friends. I had crashed, dog woke me up, she was gone I grinned!!! Sent her a txt "Do I need to come get you?" she replied back "bite me" LOL! ~ She had the seat jammed up to the ceiling and into the steering wheel but she did it.
