I know this is late but possibly worthwhile info. I just had the same problem on my 2015 2 days ago so I did a little research.
The recall was only sent to certain states. My dealer in MA told me that my VIN did not appear on the recall list. Possibly my truck was swapped from NH which "is" on the recall list. Yours could possibly have the same issue from MN or WI which are both on the list.
So anyway, the dealer said they weren't going to cover a single penny. I called the support number referenced in the recall which is 1-800-222-1020. The customer rep created a case for me and will be calling the district where my dealership resides. I'm expecting to hear back with a different story tomorrow or the next day.
The recall has an end date of 2/28/2022 so if you want to act on this now is the time. Assuming you already paid for your repair you can still submit a claim for reimbursement as long as you get it to the dealer before 2/28/2022 to get inside the deadline.
