I happen to own a HFC detector. And, yap, as soon as I sniffed the vent, the detector started screaming. It is just sad. Seems like GM would understand that the heater core or the evaporator may have to come out some day. I had the dash out of a 2004 for a heater core. This one looks even more painful. I will price the dealer, but I don't know if they will do with without their test, meaning adding more freon and dye. You just can't see the dye in there. Anyone know about replacing the 1234ys with 134a? That is what I am planning. There are people that say it is not a problem. Dealer tells me $2040.

I seem to have an evaporator leak. The common one is the condenser. I have charged the system with dye and nothing at the condenser or lines. This looks painful. They talk about dash removal. Is there any way to be definitive about the leak? Is there a way to visualize it? I am stumped. I want to be sure before tearing it apart. 2018 Silverado 1500. 5.3.
