If you are towing more horses or using a gooseneck trailer I would opt to go larger but a bumper pull 2-horse is fine in the 1500 - now that being said more grunt is never a bad thing

The bumper pull trailer is about 2800 pounds and the pony is about 900 pounds and if another horse is loaded they are about 1200 pounds - so close to 5000 lbs. - not tremendous weight but tremendous attitude

Even with passing the Pico test, my thinking is starting to align with MrPbFt. Ok, it has passed but does that guarantee it is working as I tow horses through rural areas and the engine may crap out. I know there are no guarantees regardless of brand, but GM is making me think twice.

I use one-piece husky floor liner across the back, a Duluth deluxe seat saver (https://www.duluthtrading.com/s/DTC/deluxe-seat-saver-96000.html?color=GRA) and a cover/pad for the front center console (co-pilot seat for the dog) I put down a towel over the seat saver to make more comfortable for dog and catch dirty paws - no solution for keeping nose prints of the glass though

Brian - I have an Undercover Armor Flex that has now just developed the same split on the side seal at the hinge point. I just talked to RealTruck/Under Cover and they have a side seal replacement kit that they sell for $26. Mine is being covered under the 5-year warranty. Not sure if it is the same seal specifics as yours, but worth a call to them again to try and see if fits yours.

A few more data points Took my 22 in for the L87 recall to one of the larger GMC groups here in Atlanta - Service advisor said they had several come in broken but they did not have any fail the Pico test He also said that they are going to maintain oil change pricing (@$89 for 6 qts / @$129 for 8 qts) even though the switch to the new super car oil - not sure if same across GM or just this auto group

A fourth vote for Defender LTX - used them on 2 Yukons and will go on my Sierra in the near future

I had a strip put across the top of the windshield and did my sunroof (to reflect as much as possible to lower temps even behind the shade) One warning - my tint shop was not as careful in putting the front camera assembly back in so it threw off all the collision and lane sensors and required a dealer visit to fix

Is anyone having luck trading in to GM after you pass the Pico test and have the new extended warranty? Is the block until the recall action is closed for your vehicle or is it the full kiss of death for the whole range?

Brian - I found a post on a f-150 forum. The guy had the same issue and found a hail damaged one on FB marketplace and raided the hinges. He asked BAK/Real Truck which other models used the same hinge to know what to models to search - better than going in the dumpster

Jason - If you do not want to go with a system like Thule or Yakima for your bikes my frugal idea was a 2x6 across the bed floor. Then attach either fork mounts to it or bike wheel chocks like you see on motorcycle trailers and strap the bikes to the front tie downs. Then mount your PVC like DarkSky suggested for your rods. Could be mounted in center or to one side if you need center bed storage - easily removable and more importantly cheap (and easily broken down for storage) - not saying this would work but just where I started thinking (with a quick and dirty sketch)

I cannot speak to the Aero hitch but I have a stock 22 Sierra with a B&W Stow and Go hitch with a 4.5 inch drop - I tow a horse trailer only and that hitch provides more than enough adjustability for me. My hitch has bottomed out but only on an extreme driveway or curb. On my vehicle, 6 inch would be too much - just my two cents.
