Ok, I've been through a tone of factory diag in mitchel. I cannot find and case like this nor idle in gear data that could relate. We've done AFM systems in the past but this one is unique. Quick history, I adopted this 2013 Yukon 6.2 with afm from another shop (I didn't know another shop had done work until after we started diag) and the other shop has done a factory AFM, a pressure sensor, aftermarket high volume oil pump, factory lifters, guides and cam. A couple of different trips to this shop for first low oil pressure then lifter noise. Customer and shop both tell me the repairs were valid and fixed the concerns over the past year. It came to us with lifter clatter and almost like a ping at idle but only when in gear. No misfires coming up, no codes relatable. Per procedure we checked and replaced the screen as per first stop in low top end oil pressure. we've had 30s to 40s at the filter and 9 to start at the top. Filter got us to 16-19 but didn't do away with the clatter. Again, not your standard lifter knock. It's like pinging valves at low RPM. Next step was the afm oil pressure control valve in the pan again that was not done through the other repairs. Inspected, found nothing wrong but put a new valve in while we had the pan off. So, per the findings, we now have an AFM or crank bearing clearance issue. I'm trying to get their extended warranty company to rip of the band-aid and stick a motor, but they want proof of failure. So, with that said I'd love to know if anyone else has ever seen this. Idle is just under 1000rpm out of gear, and in gear gets really close to 500rpm. Also not sure about the idle speed in gear, is 500 to low for an AFM. Anyone seen the cam actuator gear or solenoid produce this? There is no part numbers listed in his cam repair for the gear or solenoid. Most likely because of extended warranty not paying for it? If anyone is familiar, I'd love some help saving the customer some money and possibly our shop from eating a lot of un-paid diagnosis.
