Hello all,
All my cab mounts were a complete mess and needed replacements.
First question is in regards to the black plastic inverted funnel (see picture). After removing the bolts (most were not salvageable and raising the body to get the old mount and bushings out, I had noticed this piece on the garage floor and initially had no clue where it came from. Thinking it was just some part from all the other stuff in my garage, I ignored it until I came to the next to last mount I removed and wouldn't you know, that piece was still stuck to the frame. I am assuming it is a guide to get the bolt up into the body. But does anybody know what it is and/or part number? what its real function is? and more importantly, is it really needed? I did save 5 of the 6. Probably threw the first 1 in the trash but somehow just threw the rest of them in a bucket other miscellaneous plastic parts.
Anyway,I purchased "7-141 Body and Cab Mount Bushing Kit Compatible with 1999-2014 Chevy Silverado & Sierra 1500/2500 2WD/4WD Polyurethane Black" from Amazon for $70. These were just the bushings (upper and lower), and washer. All were identical. I went to the Nutty company and bought new bolts. Same thread, but 16 MM head and not the 18 MM on the originals and not tapered where it goes into the body. I am not sure those new bolts are going to work. I had tested without the mount in and while the thread is same, I am having difficulty getting them into the first mount I am replacing. Thoughts?
I have read EchoByte's post from April 6, 2020 on Body mount positions and feel I have that I have figured out the different Body placement positions with the Dorman products 924-134
924-135 and 924-335. But have an observation/question as to why there are 3 different parts, (2) seem to be exactly the same, 924-135 and 924-134 (positions 1 and 2 respectively). Part 924-335 is for position 3 and seems to have a completely hollow bottom bushing, where as the other Dorman products, while mostly hollow, have a bottom to them that I figure goes on the bottom where you would put the washer. But the washer included with the 924-335 is much more industrial strength than that of what I received with just the replacement bushings. Now as I am writing this, it is possible that because there is not as much weight in position 3 (under extended cab), it does not have to have a bottom to it?
In the disassembly process, some of the metal mounts were salvageable and I rehabbed them, however, 2 were eaten through where the top bushing slides onto it. So I bought the 924-335 for $57 (less expensive than the others, $81 and $83) and at that point I was not familiar with the body mount positions nor necessarily concerned as all the bushings I had previously purchased were exactly the same. I also bought the 924-130 Radiator mount as I needed the bolt and the metal mounts are the same throughout so will be using that to replace the second one. in position 2 with the new bolts from nutty.
I know that this was a long post and I most likely have answered some of my own questions but does anyone have any input?
I suppose I could buy another 924-335 so position 3 is same on both sides. I am trying to avoid buying that and 2 more of 924-134 and 924-135 but if those new bolts do not work, I may not have much choice.
Thank you in advance.
The pictures are of the plastic piece, The replacement bushings with rehabbed metal mount and the original and new bolt and then position 2 which will be the last to come out.
