  1. I think the 24 still had the old bad VB. Also, from what I've heard the mobile 1 ulv is better than ac delco. Yea its a real shame on GM for what they have done. The 21 had thr bad vb and bad idler
  2. The older 10l80 transmission had poorly designed valve bodies and a helix cut idler gear connecting input shaft to the trans pump. The helix cut gear walking off its bearing has been discontinued. They now use a straight cut gear. The valve body has been redesigned and is now on the third generation. It's a completely different design. Jury is out if the new VB will fix the issues. Regarding the 6.2, it's a real shame what gm has done. If you can get an extended warranty at a low cost, maybe. I have a 2020 6.2, 113k. No engine issues so far. I just went with mobile1 EP 5w 30 dexos approved, even though I had no issues w/ 0w 20, I wanted more cushion. I bought the extended warranty at 93k when I purchased the truck used. Due to mainly trans issues (previously discussed) I've used $17k of the Max $26k allowed.
  3. Sorry to hear that bud. Any updates? Also have you thought about going to an independent shop, ordering a DOD deleted rebuilt engine and have the shop tune it? I bet it would be cheaper and more durable than another DOD engine with the same trash lifters. It's the lifter quality, not necessarily the design that is causing the issues. There is a brand of lifter The Car Wizard recommends if you go back with the DOD.
  4. At what percent or miliage do you change your oil? You should be changing it at 5k miles, I don't care what anyone else says. Personally if I were you, trade it before you have transmission problems. I have a 2020 6.2l 10l80 112k miles. 93k trans idler bearing gave out and started whining. At 112k transmission failed. Well, slight slip then fishbite but dealer said needed a transmission. So about 14k worth of trans work at the dealer.
  5. Yes, I saw this first hand. The bill to repair a bad idler gear and pump is $4600 at a dealer. I am wondering if the latest valve body is really better than the original. These transmissions are not cheap. Do yiu know of any high miliage transmissions with the updated vb? I think it's fairly new.
  6. Best I can figure, the issue centers around bad bearings, and over chamfered oil holes on the crank. Along with poor crank finish. If my truck had an engine problem it would have manifested itself by now. When the pan was removed the dealer checked for heat signs. There were none. On Top of that the oil has been changed religiously at 5000mi. If anything was going to happen, it would have. But your comment highlights another one of my concerns.
  7. Hello. I own a 2020 GMC Sierra high country 6.2l with 112k miles, bought used at 93k last year. I purchased the extended warranty, which really panned out. I've used $17,000 worth of that warranty in ONE YEAR! at 96k miles, whining from transmission. Was caused by idler gear walking off the bearing within transmission. Gear and pump replaced. At 110K oil pan leak. Resealed. At 112k, slight slip at low rpm slow speed. Transmission replaced. I am very concerned about the quality of the transmission in this vehicle. It seems no matter how well they are cared for they will fail. Is there anyone with high miliage 10l80 out there? If so what have you done? Do you think this new transmission will have more longevity? I am seriously considering getting rid of this thing and buying a toyota. I've owned bmws with less issues. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
