    Dead batteries are common period nowadays.  2-3 years old isn't out of the question for one to fail.  Not Colorado/Canyon specific at all.  
     
    If you unlocked the door with the key while it was dead or it had enough voltage to keep many systems awake still, that is what tripped the anti-theft entry mode.
