  1. Has anyone been successful in finding an actual spec from GM in “normal” usage for DEF fluid? I have a 2022 Chevy 1500 duramax 3.0L. It has 3300 miles on it and has used 11.5 gallons of DEF. Dealer says this is normal and also says GM does not have a spec. So how can we know what’s normal if there is no spec. The truck gets 32 mpg without the trailer and 16 with it. My DEF usage is 8% of fuel usage. Everything I find online says it should be about 2% of fuel usage.
  2. Hello, I am about to buy a 6.6L Duramax 14' 2500hd Sierra with 136K on it. But I just learned it has a small heating core leak, the dealer is replacing the whole core prior to purchase. Should I proceed with this purchase? Or is this the sign of this truck going down hill. The service recorded were regular until 2018 then the car fax no longer shows any updates. Any help would be appreciated, I have a 92 Sierra with a 5.7L small block so the diesel world I am not as comfortable with. Also do not want a newer truck as I do not want to deal with DEF and I would not be able to do a delete.
  3. I am looking to add an elevated idle feature to my 2018 Chevy sliverado 3500 duramax Dually. My truck is currently not set up with the pto feature. I currently idle my truck for about an hour a day and I am wanting to add an elevated idle to get my truck to operating temp faster to prolong the life of my truck. What are y’all adding to the truck for aftermarket parts to achieve this since the dealer is saying it’s not possible with gm parts. What else are y’all running for tuners to increase mpg that will work great with a fully deleted truck.
  4. I just bought a used 2021 AT4 with the 3.0 with about 3,800 miles. This is my first diesel but I have read a ton of documentation, forums and Facebook groups specific to the 3.0 Duramax. When I got the truck I scrolled through all of the information in the DIC. I noticed that the DEF gauge is a about a third full. I figured the previous owner may have done a lot of towing with it because at 3,800 miles it should not be that low. Am I correct in that assumption? Should I go ahead and fill it up or wait until the truck tells me to? How much do I fill it? Until full? Thanks!
  5. As we covered in a recent story, Volkswagen has admitted to concocting a software over-ride of the emissions systems on all of its top-selling diesel cars from about 2009- through 2015 and has pulled its current models off of the market. We have never implied that GM would be caught up in such a scheme, however, diesel vehicles will be under a spotlight now. The news that there is no delay will be welcomed by the many fans planning to purchase a diesel Canyon or Colorado.
  6. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 9/28/2015 GM-Trucks.com reached out to our contacts at General Motors today and asked if the Volkswagen dirty-diesel cheating scandal would in any way delay the launch of the new 2016 Colorado and Canyon Duramax Diesel trucks due in October. The answer was all good news. GM confirmed that "Colorado and Canyon diesels are on track to go on sale later this fall. These are diesel trucks with urea after treatment systems so we don't expect any impact." Urea treatment is one of the catalyst systems used to control the output of NOx, a pollutant.
