  1. All I know is everyone that has seen my DB cover could not believe how heavy duty it is. "Look at those heavy duty hinges", "that cover will last for ever". When I tell people it can hold 1600lbs on top they say "I believe just by looking at it".
  2. Curious.......are you speaking from personal experience? The locks were fixed. I made a post about that before. Turns out they did receive a bad batch of locks from the distributor. They switch manufacturers and have had no failures reported. The sales rep disclosed this. They will also mitgate any problem customers have with their locks. The SE is not flimsy by any means. Most covers are aluminum. Only the SE can withstand 400 pounds on top of it more than most, if not all covers in that price range. I would take metal lock rods any day over what other manufacturers are puting on their covers. I have adjusted my lock rods once since I've put the cover on. Once when I installed it. That's 4-5months of ever day use. Seals are fine. If for some reason the seal you speak of fail......there is a channel/ rain gutter if you will, beneath it so water won't get in. If you are thinking of a DB cover don't let truck daddy sway your decision. He seems to really have it out for DB for some reason. Just do your research. You will see DB covers are great covers.
  3. I purchased a diamondback HD cover a couple months back. What made me interested was the security. Once I started researching covers and saw how well made and secure their covers were, I couldn't go with any other cover. I feel all covers lack in certain areas. I went with DB because I feel they fullfilled what I needed from a cover the best. Everyone's different though. Cons: the only thing I can think of is if you are loading dirt, sand, gravel in the bed a lot. You would have to take it off. If you have a tall item you can Flip a section of the cover open all the way (unless you have the ATV package with the side rails) or strap it onto of the cover. That's what I do. In the instance I have something that won't fit under the cover I just strap it it on top. I have the headache rack from them also so the back window is protected. So straping stuff on top really isn't a big deal. I completely fine making that trade off to get one of the most secure and heavy duty covers on the market. Another con could be pricing. If you look at the prices of other covers that use crap locks and plastic parts......you will see you get a lot for your money with DB. If you just want a cover o believe their SE cover is only $1199 in polished finish. It holds 400lbs on top. The HD is $1599 fan hold 1600lbs on top. So I feel those prices are actually very comparable with others on the market. If you want rugged black finish ass $300. It starts getting expensive when you add stuff. I got the ATV package so I could load my quad on top of it, a tool box that drops in the front section, and the headache rack and it was kind of expensive. If I were to price out a tool box, and a headache rack and a cover, and ATV ramps by themselves from other vendors the price is comparable. I also have not had a single drop of water in the cover. I grew up in MA but now live in San Diego. We have recently been getting a lot of rain. Heaviest rain I've seen in my life. Not a drop inside the bed. I've also went through manual and automatic car washes and no water has got inside. I am a happy customer. If you want any more info you can message me. Or just call them direct. I spoke with their salesman Jordan whole buying mine. He has all the answers.
  4. I've never had a vibration problem whatsoever ......until I brought my truck in to the dealer a couple weeks ago. My leaf springs were making a poping noise while going over uneven surfaces. They did fix that problem, but while I was there they offered a tire balance and some sort of bulletin/update for software for the front transfer case. Something about in warm temps the 4x4 could come out of 4x4 or something like that. Can't exactly remember, but it was a software update. So having the leaf springs fixed, a tire rotation, a tire balance, and this software update.......NOW I have a slight vibration I can feel in the steering wheel at high speeds. I went back and they said they checked the tire balance and it was good.which leaves the software update....? Hard to believe that would cause anything. I think I just need to go to a tire shop to have my tires balanced again. Wish they never touched it.
  5. Yes the tool bin does just drop in. It is 13in deep so if you have long items you can slide them under the bin in the bed. Has two smaller compartments on the sides and a third larger compartment in the middle. The sides pretty much just over lap the bed rails so it hangs suspended. It's made very sturdy. Very similar to the fold-a-cover caddy as far as the way it sits in the truck. The cover clamps down on the edges of the bin as well as the lock rods pivot through the side of the bin under the bed rails. So it won't move around or anything. I like it better than a tool box bc it is out of site and the cover does a great job keeping things secured. Here are some better pics I found online.
  6. Finally got around to installing my diamondback cover and tool bin. Installed in about 30 mins. This cover is ridiculously solid. Everything about it is rugged and well made. You could literally have about 5 grown men jumping on this cover at the same time and it wouldn't break. Maybe even more because it holds up to 1600lbs on top of it. I wouldn't be surprised if it out lasted the truck with exceptions to maybe weather gaskets......which I must say are also pretty beefy. I've already had 2 people ask about it in parking lots. It's been raining like crazy here in San Diego due to El Niño and there isn't a single drop in the bed. Exceeding my expectations. I know the look isn't for everyone. Some prefer a sleek low profile look. This cover definitely isn't that. It added a bold rugged look to my truck.....that I love. I don't have one complaint yet. I'll have to see how it is loading my quad on top of it.
  7. I finally ordered a diamondback cover. After no lie.... a year of researching covers/caps I finally pulled the trigger on a HD diamondback (can hold 1600 lbs on top of it) with headache rack to protect back window, cross bin which is a tool box that sits below the cover at the front of the bed, and ATV package (that consists of 12' ATV ramps, adapter rails that run down the edge of the cover that the ramps connect to so the won't slip off, and guide rails that keep you from riding off the other side of the truck while loading an ATV onto it. All covered in a rugged black line X like coating. I know some may think diamondbacks are an over kill/ are over priced, or even one person here seems to be adamant about the locking system being "rudimentary" like its a bad thing (it has simple metal locking rods that pivot under the bed side rails instead of using cheap plastic locks that can be pried open/ pried off the cover or locks that can be defeated by a coat hanger) , but like I said...I spent a lot of time comparing covers, emailing companies, reading testimonials, reading this forum as well as other forums and this cover seems to fit my personal needs the best. Provides a tool box, the best security in my opinion, the ability to haul my ATV on top of the cover (or anything up to 1600lbs) while storing/securing gear underneath the cover, and is easy to remove.....if needed. Just seems to be the best for my work needs and play needs. My wife made the mistake of telling me to buy whatever cover I wanted for Christmas....and they are having a Christmas sale....so I couldn't resist. I won't lie.... It was a lot of $$$ but I would be confident about putting it up against any cover on the market..... plus I plan on having the truck for a while so.....why not. For anyone looking for a tough, rugged, secure cover I would recommend checking them out. They have an SE model that can hold 400lbs on top for around $1199 polished by itself. The HD by itself (carries 1600lbs) goes for around $1599 I believe.....add $300 for the rugged black coating when ordered direct.......Idk about other places that sell them. I'm not knocking other covers because it all depends on your personal needs. I'm just a satisfied costumer.
  8. In my last truck I installed 5100s on the highest setting. It leveled the truck out great. The ride was pretty ruff at first. Idk if I got use to it or the shocks wore in a bit.......but it seemed to ride better as time went on. Only, when I went off road with them they seemed very stiff and my steering wheel shook/ jerked pretty bad. The whole truck shook/vibrated. I had taken the truck off road prior to installing and it rode much better with stock shocks. I think the the highest setting might of just been too stiff. I've been thinking of leveling out my new truck, but that experience has me thinking I'l save up andl try fox. . Has anyone else experienced this while off road with 5100s on the highest setting?
  9. Hahaha really? You had to think about it? you have been promoting the roll n lock for some time now. Hahaha I'm not to crazy about retractables. I do know we have a Truck Covers USA retractable cover on the utility body at work. Thing seems secure and very strong. I have actually walked on top of it. They seem to be pretty spendy though. I feel most covers people have on their personal trucks don't see 1/3 the use this cover does since its on a crew work truck. After seeing how it performs day after day I would personally go with a cover from them if I wanted a retractable cover.
  10. Thanks for the pictures. Just so I understand.......if you were to pull one of those cables that attach to the locking latches it wouldn't actually operate the latch? The way I see it is when the cover is unlocked you can lift that latch near the lock on the outside to gain access. I'm guessing when you lift this opening latch it pulls on those cables that in turn operate the latche at the striker bolts. I could have it completely wrong. That's just what I gather by looking at it. When the cover is locked you can't lift that opening latch so the cables are not being pulled so he cover doesn't unlatch from the striker bolts. If I have his correct.....it would seem by pulling one of those cables it would operate the latches at the striker bolt...
  11. What I was referring to is circled in red in the attached pic. I have never seen this cover in person. So I was asking if there was some type of pull cord that operates the latches when you open the G4 cover......like the Bak covers you pull a cord on the bottom of the cover and it opens the latches. The G4 you don't actually pull a cord, but I was wondering if the latch you lift works pull cords that work the latches on the underside of the cover. I actually contacted Fold a Cover to ask about this. This is what they told me... "Thank you for contacting Steffens Enterprises, the makers of Fold-a-Cover. Since the Latch Cable is protected by the sleeve it would be difficult for someone to use a simple coat-hanger to release the latches. They would require an intimate knowledge of how our covers are assembled and how they operate." I left some out bc they actually told me what would need to be done to break into one of these G4 covers. Having said that it would take a bit of skill or knowledge of the cover. So, I'm a little confused bc truck daddy says there are no cords in the cover. Someone on a different forum said they don't have cords either but have solid rods. Basically I don't want a cover you can break into using coat hangers.....in this covers case going by what I was told from fold a cover.......it would take two coat hangers....and that's what I was trying to figure out. I'm not really interested in a canister/retractable type cover. I knew someone that loaded his quad in his truck. The quad shifted in the bed while driving and dented the canister and binded up the operation of the cover so it wouldn't track out of the canister anymore. Plus.......idk if I like the whole idea of it. Just my opinion. I was all for the G4, but I'm still unsure of this one detail. The company says it has cords.......I've had two people tell me they don't have cords......? The DB cover seems heavy duty. Yea it has rods that slide under the bed rails, but that seems more secure to me than a lot of the locking options out there. If DB covers only down side is that they use an unsophisticated locking method that works......they will be getting my business. So I'm seriously leaning towards the DB right now. I would like to find a place I could actually look at the construction of a fold a cover in person so I could get a better feel for how it locks. Or if anyone has pictures of the "pull cord" or "solid rod" that works the latches I would be interested. Call me crazy, but I just don't want a cover that can be defeated using coat hangers.
  12. My three choices are 1) fold-a-cover G4 elite with personal caddy 2) Diamondback SE with rugged black finish (the HD cost to much) 3) roll n lock I've found these covers with these options to be around the same price point. I never really considered a retractable cover due to having a canister. After looking into roll n lock more I really do like them. Both the roll n lock and G4 look sleek and seem functional. Both have multiple latch points. The diamondback is a toss up and I only like it bc it seems very solid and secure. I'd have to say G4 is my top choice. 2nd choice is between roll n lock and Diamondback. Not really leaning towards one or the other. How's the install on the roll n lock? Still not completely sold with that bar you attach to the tailgate for the tailgate locking points. Anyone have pictures of it? I have line X and it might be hard to drill through to attach this. I'm sure if I actually saw one in person I would be sold. It's just hard to tell from pics online. If the G4 latches can be operated by pulling those latch cords that will eliminate that cover from my list making my choice a little easier. The G4 seems like a quality cover and I have found its an option offered from the dealer. plus the fact they bash bak covers for this pull cord situation leads me to believe it's not s problem on their covers. Can anyone with a Fold-a-cover G4 confirm this? Can the latches be operated by pulling on that cord? Thanks
  13. Still shoping around for a bed cargo solution. I've notice some here have the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite. Seems like a solid cover. Can anyone weigh in on how it's been holding up for them? Any problems? Also one of my biggest concerns is security. In one of Fold-A-covers comparison videos with a bak flip cover they describe how the bak flip can be opened with a coat hanger. So I take it this is not the case with the G4. Only in some of the pictures I can see what looks like latch cords covered with rubber tubing on the rear most panel. Anyone that has this cover, can the latches be operated by pulling on this cord? Or does the rubber tubing/ lock on the cover prevent this from being a problem. As far as foldable tonneau covers the G4 seems to be one of the best IMO. The diamondback seems amazing, but is pricey and I'm not sure I can commit/justify spending that much. Thanks for any information
  14. I've been jumping around a bit, and doing some research on different options for truck bed storage. I'm starting to think maybe a tonneau cover or a topper might not be the best for me. I just saw a roll out truck bed storage solution called "Decked". It is two roll out draws that are water proof that install in the bottom of your truck bed....below the side rails. The deck itself can handle 2000lbs on top of it while both draws can handle 200lbs of cargo. They are water proof but if you want you could us a draw for a cooler if you wanted. I'm not exactly sure how install/removal is but it seems it wouldn't be that difficult to remove. This would cover most of my needs. Waterproof took storage, I can park a quad on top of it, they seem secure, tools and cargo won't roll around on you. I have not emailed them, but the video link I'm posting says they cost from $900 for base. With locks and tie downs I believe he said they are about $1100. Has anyone had any experience with this manufacturer or their products? Sorry I know, I know this is a tonneau cover thread, but I'm just kind of talking out load about my options and hope others will weigh in. Maybe providing more knowledge to some that might get use out of it. Try to ignore that they use a ford in the video ?
  15. That's a great looking cover. Seeing your pics made me interested so I checked out their website. The install video shows what looks like a metal bar being screwed into the top ledge of the tailgate. I think this is how it locks to the tailgate. I was wondering if this piece would hinder someone loading something in their bed using ramps. Would it get in the way, cause ramps to slip off, or be crushed by ramps? Thanks
  16. I don't mean to be an AHole or anything, I'm just searching for info because the Diamondback cover tops my list right now. Most covers have had people complain about certain things. Seems no cover is perfect. While looking up reviews of the diamondback I have only heard people mention the seals sometimes freeze in the winter and sometimes the seals come off. After searching I can't find anything about the key locks braking. Personally I believe the locking mechanism is Indeed basic, but that seems to be the case with most covers. sometimes keeping it simple works. With the locking arms that pivot under the side rails....it seems like one of the most secure ways t lock a cover down. I have never seen one in person. So I have to ask, are you speaking from experience you had while owning one yourself? reviews on line? Again, I only ask because I plan on buying one and would like info. Thanks UPDATE: turns out they were having problems with their locks. I emailed them for pricing and asked about locks. They had this to say.... "The locks were an issue, as we had a huge batch that was bad from our manufacturer. We have since got brand new heavy duty locks from a new company. They are awesome, and so far 7 months in have a 100% success rate with them. "
  17. I read on another forum that a lot of these covers that use a pull cord to open the latch can be broken into using a coat hanger. Just jimmy a coat hanger under the edge and the tailgate and hook the cord. Some people were talking about moding their covers to prevent this. The 2.0 mentioned earlier seems to have a more secure way to latch with actual handles. I have to say though, diamondback covers put a lot of checks in my must have boxes. Their covers seem ridiculously secure, waterproof, easy enough to remove, offer a lot of different configurations, and they offer a cover you can actually load a quad on top of. These covers seem extremely durable and seem they are built to last. They are more expensive, but they seem to offer unbeatable performance. After researching their covers I can't settle for anything less. Guess I'll hold off on a cover a bit longer to save a bit more.
  18. I guess I being weather proof isn't that big of a deal since I'm in San Diego now. So security and not taking up to much bed space would be the key factors. If it does take up space in the bed it would have to be easily removable. Would rather not remove it and just get something that takes minimal space when folded. I really like the beefy look of the extang solid fold 2.0. Looks very durable but can't fold up the last of three folds from what I can tell. Taking up a lot of bed space. The truxedo titanium I like. Seems just like the roll x . Seems to have a soft cover look....not sure what they cover the aluminum with, but it almost looks like a vinyl. Living in San Diego the sun might abuse that finish. Anyone have his cover that could weigh in on this? Roll n lock look great, seem very secure, but seem to have a canister it rolls into at the head of the bed that takes up space. Most of these covers would be fine for my day to day and securing work tools. When it comes to loading a quad idk of it will fit. I mean right now I can fit my quad in my bed with the tail gate up and locked with an inches or two to spare. Might just have to get one that is easily removable. Or keep the tail gate down and travel with the rear wheels on the tail gate and just use straps. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm pretty new to dealing with tonneau covers. I'll have to look into some of these brands more.
  19. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cover. I am looking for a hard cover that is secure, durable, and does not take up bed space since I load my quad in the bed and also will be storing tools in it. I was considering the Peragon cover bc it seems very secure, but I have heard it doesn't do a great job of keeping water out, it has tracks that seem to stick out into the bed pretty far that could get bent, it does retract into a pretty compact space at the front of the bed, but it is still taking up bed space. It can be removed very easily within about 30 seconds though. I was also considering Bak Industry covers like the Roll-x, and some of their tri folds. They seem very secure. I like the way the tri folds flip up against the back glass almost giving you back rack protection for your rear glass. Could come in handy for loading in the bed. This thread some people have had problems with the finishes coming off their products and problems with customer service. I have never had a flat cover before only a bed cap. Would get a back cap but wouldn't be able to fit a quad. You guys have any suggestions? Thanks.
  20. I installed 5100s in my last truck. 2004 Nissan Titan 4x4. I installed them on the highest setting. It leveled the truck very nicely. Though I never had any problems with the shocks or components.....it definitely made the ride pretty harsh. I got use to it after a while. Even drove across the country with it. Bumps in the road were harsh though. I'm contemplating if I even went to mess with my 2014 Silverado. I was thinking of leveling it or lifting it. Only it rides so nice and smooth right now. I'm not sure I want to risk messing that up. Lifting the truck would make it look great, but using my truck for work and loading quads in it would make a lift unpractical for me I think.
  21. Not sure if that flap clamped in the open position would cause the helicopter noise. I had my whole exhaust replaced under waranty to fix the adaptive valve chirp. It was good for about 3k miles, but it is now chirping again when going from V4-V8. So all I know is I'm done with this exhaust. Starting to research aftermarket exhausts. I recently drove across country from MA to CA pulling a 12 foot trailer. The trailer was packed. Couldn't fit another thing in it and I had my quad in the bed of the truck. Truck did great pulling through the Rockies. Love this truck but the exhaust has to go. Can anyone recommend a muffler shop in the San Diego area?
  22. I put aux lights on my Silverado. I didn't want to drill a hole in my dash to mount a switch. I wanted something simple that I could remove in the future if I wanted. So I made this bracket at work. Painted it black. Has enough space for two switches. I personally don't like the switch I mounted. It came with my ridged industries harness and I had a hard time finding a three position switch. so I just kept it. Will probably paint the red part black. The cubby hole already has a hole in the back to run wires which is convenient.
  23. The dealership changed my exaust system under warranty 3 weeks ago. While I was waiting for the new exhaust the dealership clamped my current exhaust open. Driving around like that for about 3 weeks.....the exhaust sounded lousy. Loud drone.....got a helicopter noise on decel. I've been driving around with the new exhaust for 3 weeks and it sounds a lot better than when it was clamped open. No squeaks yet. Time will tell. As far as I know it's just the same stock exhaust. They said the other exhaust had a faulty valve.
  24. Well damn it! Haha. They said it was a "faulty valve" so I figured a new one would fix it. Thought I read someone thought it was redesigned. I'll go aftermarket...... eventually. Thanks for the info.
  25. Ride up in Pittsburg NH, Berlin NH. From MA
