My wife and I went for an extended drive yesterday now that travel has opened up. After about an hour of highway driving, she spotted a travel trailer in a roadside lot she wanted to view! ( I would enjoy spending my free time personalizing a mini-home on wheels and was surprised RV's were on her radar! ) It turned out that the one she spotted looked much better driving past at highway speeds. However, we did see a trailer on the lot that looked exactly like our previous '19 Minnie Winnie. Upon closer inspection, not only did it look like our old trailer, it was our old trailer! I'm sure I could have had her seriously re-think the enjoyment we had with this trailer if they weren't charging thousands more than our new purchase price! It is an indication of very strange times when a travel trailer can be an appreciating asset!

I am not active on a lot of forums but have participated in a few. I haven't found this one to be particularly problematic. I've had the error message but is resolved by a brief wait and trying again.

Good points. I live in an area where the growth of the EV market is significant yet discrete. Many of our malls and major stores have rows of parking spaces with charging stations. Most of the vehicles I see plugged in at these places are a surprise. Many popular car brands and body types are represented! BTW We are now paying close to $7 for the equivalent of a US gallon of gas which is a major factor in my considerations.

I know there are concerns about switching our gas dependence to electricity. I just went through the most significant weather event of my adult life with connections made to human activity and I want to do something. Whether (pun?) we believe in climate change or not, doing nothing won't help! The news last night was highlighting increased sales in ebikes as a response to soaring fuel prices! I believe there is a tremendous opportunity for automotive gas to electric conversion businesses! Many of us can't or don't want to switch to electric bikes and scooters!

We are moving closer to "normal" but it will be a long time, if ever, before all the masks, signage and barriers disappear. I suspect retailers will keep most of the protective plexi-glass barriers as part of their "new normal". I am fully vaccinated but haven't eased off on wearing a mask/hand washing/physical distancing. I am happy that innocent retailers are no-longer obliged to confront those not wearing a mask.

The proliferation of EV's in my region is strongly influencing my next vehicle choice. I have kept my last few trucks for over 6 years each. I think buying a new gas powered truck will be of minimal resale value after a few years due to the rapidly declining demand for gas power. My current (pun?) '15 Sierra is in pristine condition and has every feature I would want in a new truck. I decided to google the idea of a powertrain swap and my first hit discovered that GM is looking to target others thinking the same way in the form of a "eCrate" conversion package. https://insideevs.com/news/451509/gm-preview-all-electric-1977-k5-blazer-sema360/ I appreciate that there is a range of acceptance of EV's and I'm particularly interested in hearing from those seriously considering the switch soon. The interest in the F150 Lightening tells me that an all electric Sierra/Silverado will soon add to my options!

"You don’t know what you need till you know." I will add that it is good to plan for the unknown. I was almost in my 50's before I started really taking the prospect of my senior years seriously. Prior to then I would contribute to my pension and plan for retirement but in a half-assed manner. The thought of reaching and thriving in my senior years was not part of my reality. My parents, like Karnut, purchased and built real estate for retirement. They never lived in their retirement home but proceeds from the sale financed their final years. My three kids are all in their 40's and Covid gave them all a little taste of an extended period of no work and restricted mobility. The one that is still spending ahead of his next pay check is finally starting to get a little motivation to think in future terms. If you have spare time or cash, think of the future you. Your extra effort now will be remembered and appreciated when your need is much greater.

^^^ I think you read GB's post with an unknown bias. I can not see how it could be upsetting. The oil stories remind me of my first car; a 56 Austin. My brother-in-law had a new 67 Falcon and he changed oil too frequently in my opinion. I remember taking his used oil and putting it into my Austin! Neither vehicle gave us oil related failure. However this test is not valid as the 56 was scrapped and the 67 was sold in a relatively short period of time.

My area is receiving a reprieve from the extreme heat. Temperatures recently have exceeded all previous records Last Monday afternoon we checked on our friend in her seniors apartment with no air-conditioning and she appeared on the brink of death. We brought her home with us to recoup for a few days in our air conditioned home. Caring for her was a labor of love but was intense. My wife and I are getting to the point where providing such personal care to others is beyond our physical abilities. We took her back to her home yesterday and this morning I have no commitments but I plan to be busy all day. My spare time projects have focused on making our senior years comfortable but having a roommate 20 yrs older than us for a week demonstrated I have a lot more to do! If something so simple as a few strategically placed grab bars and higher toilets can give me some extra years of privacy, dignity and independence, I'm going to be ready! I believe providing personal care is less stressful on the provider than the recipient. I "cared" for my mother with minimal issue. I found doing the same for a long time friend much less comfortable. I definitely have limits to where I want help from my friends!

You'll find what it went to shortly after you get rid of the item! As an aside, please give your Dad a smile and a man hug from me. Mine would have been the same age if he wasn't chosen earlier. It's been 20 years but his tools peppered throughout mine keeps the memories alive. The funniest thing I found amongst his tools was a set of screwdrivers i gave him that were collected one at a time from my local gas station. My wife and I weren't quite making it from paycheck to paycheck at the time and these screwdrivers were extremely inconsistent with the high-end tools he used and needed for his career. I definitely thought this gift would receive the obligatory appreciation and be sent to the "spare" tool resting place. Instead, they were engraved with his name and were promoted to be his daily drivers! [I'm ok with pun ]

The stories attached to the memories often makes for some priceless (to the owner) tools!

My senior widowed neighbour has a son visiting for the first time since Covid became a household word. He is very skilled and likes to do home repair for his mom. I have got to know him fairly well and am fine lending him tools. His frequent visits to my cache of tools yesterday helped me appreciate what a poor job I've done of downsizing! He first asked to borrow a level. I asked what size? He opted for 48". I then asked him yellow or silver? His next visit was for a grinder. I asked him, "Corded or uncorded?" It went on like this for much of the day and it was often more embarrassing than funny! I'm glad I am able to supply him with tools because he is also working on the fence between our houses. Our current weather rivals Houston in mid-summer so I'll pass on the outside jobs. I can keep the garage fairly cool so my next project is taking my "essential" tool needs down a notch!

Every Sunday a religious order of men knocks on my door and tries to sell me flowers. So I bought a female sheep and they stopped coming. Turns out only ewe can prevent florist friars.

My first thought was the mirror is faulty and, if purchased new, should be exchanged. My second idea is that you have a wiring problem. My latest Covid project was refreshing my old utility trailer. It was disintegrating next to our driveway for the past few years and was a common source of jabs from my lovely bride. In early spring I removed the wood parts so it would quit shedding. This only exacerbated the ugliness. I had no place out of sight to store this treasure. The writing was on the wall that it needed to be re-done or scrapped. I couldn't do the latter as too many memories are attached. So I went over every square inch and followed the Radio Flyer theme that my wife and I decided on last time it was re-done. (2003) This previous refresh was done to look pretty but my heavy work schedule and and active life style resulted in too many shortcuts. This year I had the time to finish it properly. It was not planned but it was spring of '71 (50 yrs.) when I first refreshed the green Tremclad paint job on this same trailer! I did add some aluminum in vulnerable areas and replaced the 13" trailer wheels with 15". The trailer originally had old car spindles and wheels which accounts for the extra large fenders. The 15's fill the space much better than the 13's, imo.

If you have little or no experience towing, it would be advantageous to get some practice before purchase. Backing up a trailer is counterintuitive at first and It can be extremely difficult if you have to do it under pressure! Rent a U-Haul and move a couch for a friend! People are generally understanding and don't expect competency when you have rental signs plastered on your trailer! A popular form of entertainment in a campground is watching others back their rigs into a campsite. Some drivers can thread their huge trailers through the eye of a needle while others draw many "helpful" spectators.

Sorry for your loss. Give yourself time to grieve. I was faced with a similar scenario several years ago and know the dollars and cents are a very small part of the process. Don't rush. I bought and kept my Dad's much loved truck for 10 yrs. and still found it hard to sell!

My dog absolutely loves riding in the truck and she owns the backseat. Whenever I head to the door to go out, she is at my side wagging her tail in hopes to go for a ride. If I say, something positive with the word "truck" in my comment, she pastes herself to the front door in readiness. If I say the words, "Too hot" she walks off to one of her many beds! I also like travelling with my dog but if I'm going to a place where she is not allowed, and it is warm outside, she stays home. It is sad leaving her behind but not worth the risk of death. Leaving a vehicle running while unattended has always been risky and wasteful, imo.

I realize that a picture may clarify the above post so here is what I'd accomplished by noon yesterday. Installation looks easy when finished and only my wife and I know how much free time was killed or harmed in the process! It appears disproportionate to the trailer because it is too big! (The picture escalates this when not seen with the rest of the trailer.) However, it was inexpensive, works great and can be easily removed.

Many homeowners are facing a similar dilemma. It is a great time to sell but no advantage if you need a house or truck. Sell your truck if you don't need/want it but you won't make any bonus money if you're going to upgrade.
