2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic
Snoringbear replied to BringTheRain403's topic in Engines & Drivetrain
Back in Memorial weekend 2015 I traded my 2008 Silverado 5.3/4 spd CC for a 2015 LTZ 6.2/8 spd 4x4 CC. I was actually shopping for a 5.3/8 Spd but upon learning this combo was not yet available I bought the 6.2/8 spd. No offense to my trusty old 2008 as it went about its daily chores reliably and without complaining - except when being asked to tow my 25' TT that is ... Anyway, the 2015 6.2/8 spd combo is a huge improvement as it delivers better mpg as a grocery-getter and a big mpg improvement when towing "and" with no complaining ! Now, when road tripping with my TT hooked up I just set the cruise on about 68 mph (seems to be the sweet spot) and sit back and enjoy the ride. Nothing like big V-8 power and torque matched up with 8 forward gears! Anyway, I'm a happy camper for sure Lol! -

Ah NORCAL, The trick is to first become old. Then you can focus on all the exotic things you're going to do, heh, heh! No easy feat. Sometimes, between posting on this forum and watching Man vs Food reruns I reflect on how is it possible that I'm still here! Lots of luck and the good Lords guiding hand for sure! Btw, noticed that you have a 2011 Avalanche? How do you like it? When the Avalanche first came out I came within an inch of buying one instead of a truck. How does it ride, more like a Suburban or more like a truck? Well, take care of yourself and keep working on your old age. You'll be amazed by how fast you get there -

Watch it Jesse D! Comments like that may ruin your reputation, haha actually, I'm flattered that you remember my postings cause I certainly don't. I'm an old dog and I attempt, probably not very well, to inject a small modicum of subtle sardonic humor in them just for fun. Life's way to short to take forums, any forums, very seriously regardless of ones position. Hope you achieve a satisfactory conclusion to your issue for sure -

It's my observation that the more one reads this thread the more ones truck vibrates and shakes.. Personally, I think the administrator should pull this thread as it has long ago ceased to provide any constructive new information. It's become one of those circular discussions - verbal masturbation is the term I believe.... -

Willyspu, no argument here. Guess 18" wheels have to be special ordered for typical 1500's these days? I haven't seen 18" wheels on a GM dealer lot on anything but serious work trucks in years and they had heavy duty 6 or 8 ply tires which would ride rough as a cobb. But, what you did was smart thinking for sure. Btw, noticed in your member description "1956 Willys Wagon". My first car when in high school was a 1952 Willys Wagon. Mine was two wheel drive, three on tree with overdrive. with 6 cyl L head engine. Well, it wasn't a true L head; intake valves were overhead valve pushrod and exhaust valves were L head. Don't think I've ever seen this configuration since. Anyway, had a lot of good times with that vehicle -

Well, the OD's are the same for the 20 and 22 tires. So, no reprogramming is required when going back and forth. But, having had several GM vehicles over the past thirty years and had vehicles with both dimensions I have learned that 20's are the way to go whether talking ride, wear, cost, you name it. -

States 32 psi for all four on the door for my 20015 LTZ 6.2L cc. But, I set them at 30 psi cold. Now that the weather is warming noticed that I'm starting the day at about 31. Will be 32 by April. Anyway, the tiress are usually at 34 ~ 36 after a few miles. So, all is good. But, if you're starting out cold with 36psi, depending on speed driven and outside temp, could be at 40 ~ 42 psi very quickly. Tires juiced that high will transfer lots of road conditions into your veh for sure, regardless of the brand, make, model, etc. -

Actually, there's a 41 mile stretch (hwy 130) around Austin that has 85 mph speed limit. Seems to be working ok. I've driven it once but was towing my 25' TT so wasn't driving anywhere near the speed limit -

Oh, almost forgot; want to close with a joke, pretty corny. There were three engineers kidnapped by some terrorists; one French, one Japanese, one American. After several days of captivity the leader of the terrorists came into their cell and stated "infidels, you will be executed tomorrow at sunrise. However, as a gesture of our good will, before we execute you, each will be granted a last wish". So, the Frenchman said; "I would like a nice meal of escargot and a bottle of wine". The Japanese guy said "before I'm executed I would like to watch some Quality Circle DVD's". Then, the American guy was asked, he stated "I would like to be executed immediately, watching one more Quality Circle DVD is more than I can bear!" Well, told you it was corny -

Well, your data certainly supports Pareto's 80/20 rule; the vital few vs the trivial many. Actually, I'm quite familiar with Pareto, wish I had a dollar for every Pareto chart I've made over my 35 years in manufacturing and supply chain operations. In this instance I made an anecdotal estimate due to the high frequency of postings by a so very few that the ratio might be about 90/10. But, Mr. Pareto was right, as usual, lol! Btw, I'm also quite well steeped in SPC, TPM, Juran (do you know his left ear was about an inch higher than his right ear? Gives you an idea of how many sessions of his I sat through - watching him demonstrate his quincunx, lol). Can't neglect my Theory of Constraints training by Goldratt (The Goal) and Deming, in fact my operation made a run for the Deming award one year and almost won it. Even went through Taguchi Statistical Theory, sadly, this was a bit over my head but I muddled through. Anyway, it is what it is -

I wouldn't get caught up in the absolute number of posts. I think the 90/10 rule may be applicable here - meaning over 90% of posts are made by less than 10% of posters. Example; check out the number of posts made by pm26. -

Concerning the question above; does the 2015,Denali have same vibrations and question about 2016. I've copied the link to the latest Truck Trend review of the 2016 Denali. At first I thought about just pasting some excerpts but found the article so interesting I decided to just paste the URL so those interested can read the complete article. While these noise and vibration mitigation features are currently only in the Denali (don't know about the High Country) if they work well expect them to be broadened out to include the less expensive models in the future. So, maybe help is on the way ! http://www.trucktrend.com/features/1602-2016-gmc-sierra-1500-denali/ -

Snoringbear replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I'm thinking that the Magnetic Ride Control feature (check out below URL) currently being offered on the Denali may be GM's solution to the vibration problem. 2016 is the second year for this feature. I'm guessing if it proves to be successful it will be rolled out to High Country, and LTZ in the next year or so. Perhaps on down to the LT as the cost drops. Anyway, seems interesting. Wish it was on my 2015 LTZ. http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gmc/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2014/Jun/0623-sierra-mrc.html -

"There is riding like a truck and feeling the road and there is vibration. So either this road I was on when I took these readings was perfectly imperfect or something is vibrating at 40 Hz." Ask DALaws if you can borrow his wife to go for a ride. Maybe that will make things better for you -

"Haha... Whenever someone says "nothing personal," it's usually personal." No, actually, I don't have anything personal in this discussion. Just enjoying lurking mostly. And, I have no vested interest either. In fact, I had 2,000 shares (roughly $50,000) of GM stock from my 401K turn into dust when it became Government Motors. So, if anything, I have a right to be a GM hater. I suppose I'm somewhat biased though because I have not as yet had any of the problems discussed here. BUT, I must say it DOES ride like a TRUCK .... -

"So in summary, because it is a truck, it can be made from substandard quality materials, without anything resembling quality control, it can vibrate and whine, burn oil, have crappy lights, harborfreight quality gadgets, peeling paint, and it should definitely cost more than my first house. Got it. " Wow, 7,168 posts. Do you have a job? Hope you're self employed and you're not pissing away your employers time screwing around on this blog. Just saying, nothing personal -
Shake or Vibration Issues
Snoringbear replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
"Bottom line is that there will be no fix until it costs GM enough in lost customers. All this endless thread does is go over the same ground and when someone new comes on with the vibration, the theories cycle over and over again." Agree about this endless thread. Some folks on this thread really know how to pound sand for sure. I went to the trouble to do a little googling about Ford and Ram. Found that they each have a blog with threads similar to this one. And, observed much the same mix of problems including vibration. So, what to do? Don't know. But, at the risk of being repetitive, I'll just say that there are way too many variables running through this thread to arrive at any conclusions especially when considering that a good number of the subject trucks have gone through after market tinkering and such. Then, it's also my perception that some of these posters may be first time truck buyers and just because they paid $40k ~ $50 or more they think it should ride like a car of similar value - which is unrealistic. You can dress up a truck to look like a prom queen but when you undress it you will still find a truck underneath. Probably not the greatest analogy but it's the best I can do, ha ha !!! -

Snoringbear replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
"Now multiply the number of legitimate vibrations on this thread by the 99% of Silverado owners who don't know this Forum even exists and you'll have a figure more relevant." I understand your point. But, statistically that's not necessary. And, even if GM should be receptive to a recall which of the numerous hypothetical causes stated in this thread would you suggest? -
Shake or Vibration Issues
Snoringbear replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
"You think after three years with no solution for the vibrators your problem is going to be fixed by your dealer? Go back to page one and start reading, good luck. The new GM has one goal and one goal only, PROFIT, nothing else matters." Well, after three years, it seems to me that 8,042 comments are not particularly excessive; especially if the 80/20 rule is applied which is 80% of these comments were probably made by 20% of the posters, probably less. Then, start a little factoring or slicing and dicing as the number crunchers say, by the numerous different theories what the root causes may be and then factor the numerous different modifications made that may have contributed to the problem, then the number (percent) of trucks becomes pretty small. So, it's easy to understand why GM hasn't put out a recall on "vibration". Just saying -

"So let me get this straight, after vibration experience with 2 GM trucks and GM's failure to fix the problem you went out and bought another GM truck which also vibrates?" Guess the dude is an optimist, lol! -

I own four vehicles that I maintain, five counting my in-laws. I run Michelins on all of them. And, although I have Goodyear Wranglers on my 2015 Silverado CC LTZ 4x4 and have experienced no problems I will eventually replace them with Michelins. I'm sure I'll get at least one contrary response but I have never had any sort of problems with Michelin tires, not a single one. Just saying, Michelins.... -
2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN
Snoringbear replied to FOURKNUCKLES's topic in 2015-2020 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
I drive a 2015 Silverado LTZ and I do not have any buffeting or vibration problems. As I've mentioned before, I've been driving Chevy and GMC trucks for forty years and this one is the quietest and smoothest of the bunch. I'm very happy with this truck. But, I did have an interesting experience today that I thought I'd pass along. I was sitting at a traffic light and some kids pulled up beside me with their big woofers and bass speakers going full blast. Being these are low frequency speakers I could actually physically feel the sound up through the seat, steering wheel and could see the hood vibrating. I could not recall experiencing these conditions to this extent in my 2008 Silverado. So, I wondering if the thinner sheet metal on these new trucks and SUVs could be the root cause of these problems?
