2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN
Snoringbear replied to FOURKNUCKLES's topic in 2015-2020 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
"design more flex into the body to absorb some of this?" I think you may be spot on concerning the root cause of the problem. However, the trend appears to be moving towards ever more rigid frames. Ford is advertising that their new frame is twenty times more rigid than GM's , (slight exaggeration, lol) , not gonna bother to look up. Anyway, these super rigid frames with super tight bodies sitting on top of them is somewhat akin to riding on a huge tuning fork; piiiiiinnnnnng............ -

"By the way did any of you see GM's profit last qtr? Wall Street expected $1.21 per share, it was actually $1.39, but they can't fix these things." Well, trucks and suv's is where GM, Ford, Ram are making their profit. Sales are strong across the board for the whole bunch. Just a side note; when added together, the GM twins are outselling Ford. So, the tendency to suggest the problem(s) discussed in the thread are at a catastrophic level is not evident. Just saying..... -

"Maybe the colder climate and road conditions make the issue more apparent up north ???" Whether it's GM, Ford, Ram, all other things being equal road conditions have to be a factor. And, rubber, plastics and such become more rigid and loose their elasticity as temps drop. I am really old and can recall when radials first came on the scene, lots of experimentation with various materials such as rayon, nylon and such. During those days when ones car sat overnight out in the cold it was standard practice to drive slow for the first few miles as the tires warmed up and the thump, thump, thump gradually decreased. Just a blast from the past -

"Your description describes how my truck feels while driving. I like it for handling but comfort on concrete cracks etc, I dunno.... It feels like my mountain bike. I can feel the knobbi tires and how they work over bumps. Now on new asphalt it's a dream!" Thanks for the feedback. Being I only have 13k miles on my truck I'm still on factory tires which are Goodyear Wranglers. I guess what I'm trying to grasp is if over 40 years of driving a truck, and having owned too many to recall, if I have just become jaded and inoculated against the various vibrations and such due to road surface. Maybe my expectations are just too low, don't know.... -
Shake or Vibration Issues

I've had my 2015 LTZ 6.2 CC 4x4 since May 2015, have about 13k miles on it. I've been driving Chevy's and GMC's since 1975. I have to say this is the smoothest and tightest truck I've ever owned. But, when driving on roads with traction grooves scribed in the surface I do get some road feel vibration in the cab. I also feel the tar stripes between concrete sections, surface cracks and such which in the past I have always considered normal. However, when on good road surface, especially asphalt, this truck is "smooth as a gravy sandwich" to quote Crocodile Dundee. But, the comments on this forum Has me wondering and confused frankly, what the level of expectation is? In other words, do others consider what I'm experiencing as normal and acceptable as a problem? Would be interested in feedback from other posters. -

"i'd take a dodge 5.7 over GM's" I'd take my 2,000 shares of GM common stock that turned to dust in 2009 back in cash for what I paid for it. Like thousands of other folks, lost this out of my 401K. Ooop's, think I'm on the wrong blog. Sorry ! -
2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN
Snoringbear replied to FOURKNUCKLES's topic in 2015-2020 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
I drive a truck, 2015 LTZ CC. BUT, I find this thread interesting. The discussion about the buffeting reminds me of back when I had a Jeep Wrangler. In the summer I would remove the hard top and strap on a bikini top (on the jeep, not on me ). Anyway, the severity of buffeting from the canvas was highly dependent upon speed being driven and strength and direction of prevailing winds. If driving with the wind there would be very little buffeting. Into the wind or even a quartering wind coming across either front side of the jeep was worse. I couldn't drive very ling at highway speeds, would drive me nuts. Anyway, I'm guessing the problem has something to do with the long span of roof sheet metal. I believe I have seen it mentioned that the new GM suv's and trucks use thinner gauge sheetmetal than previously to save weight? I think that's your problem. -

" If you don't agree that it is a legit problem then just don't bother reading this thread" Well, guess I enjoy reading this thread so think I will just continue doing so. And btw, making a post every now and then when I feel the urge. I suppose you could just ignore my posts whenever you come upon them though. That's the best I can do for you ... -

"please if you have a problem with us working toward a resolution, feel free keep those thoughts private" Well, hope your rant was good for you! No issues here with anything you said. After all, it's your prerogative to speak your mind - except this " please if you have a problem with us working toward a resolution, feel free keep those thoughts private". This is where you cross the line. I have as much right to express myself as you. And, I will continue to do so whenever I wish. Ahh, this was good for me! Was it good for you, lol! -

"It appears not as bad as GM. Only 119 replies and 17544 views." Umm, appears that the GM replies are about the same ole 100 people who've posted about 175 times On a serious note though, it's obvious that there's a very vocal small minority that's trying very hard to elevate this issue. I'm not convinced their motives are pure. Just saying.... -

"Boy the Ford site sounds familiar!" Sure does. I'm wondering, all the truck manufacturers are in competition to try to build ever more rigid, rattle free frames and bodies. Because these bodies are now so tight, wonder if that may be the cause of this new vibration phenomenon? I haven't researched Ram but Ford and GM both appear to have similar problems. -

Just out of curiosity I did a little Googling to see if the new F-150 might be having similar problems. And, it appears that indeed it does. "I can see that happening especially on my truck. It seems to have good days and bad days. For instance yesterday it was pretty smooth as I drove it to the dealership. The only thing that is consistent is the vibration when cold. For the first 10 miles its very noticable I am being told that its the tires. The 50-40 mph vibration on deceleration is also pretty standard." Your tag doesn't state whereabouts you live but if it's way up there in cold country I'm guessing that your "first 10 miles" problem is indeed caused by flat spots on your tires due to sitting overnight in the cold. In my opinion, vibration when decelerating is either caused by tire alignment or loose/worn front end geometry. However, being your truck is fairly new I would check into tire alignment first. Just me though.....

2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic
Snoringbear replied to BringTheRain403's topic in Engines & Drivetrain
"I know a lot has been said that DIC fuel mileage systems are not accurate, but this software tends to tell a different story" I had it on my 2005, 2008 Silverados, and now my 2015 LTZ. I've found them to be fairly accurate as long as I'm consistent in the way I cap off when filling up. -

My 2015 LTZ CC 4x4 6.2L gets better mileage than my previous 2008 LS CC 5.3L in all aspects; town, hyway, towing, you name it. As others have commented there's a big improvement when road tripping on the interstate whether towing or not towing. I'm guessing a big contributor in mpg improvement has to do with going from a 4 spd tranny to an 8 speed tranny. And, the 6.2 having enough hp and torque to lope along at interstate sped (in Texas that means somewhere between 75 ~ 80 mph, ok 85 mph, lol). -

"Increased insurance and repair costs. If you get a door ding you can't massage it out like a "fix a dent" type person would etc. I do agree with you though that all major manufacturers will eventually move to alum bodies, I just don't know if I want to be an early adopter or not." I'm waiting for a good ole big ole Texas hail storm this spring. Then, being you can't swing a dead chicken around here without hitting a dozen pickups, we will have an opportunity for a valid side by side comparison. -

"I said nothing about tightening lug nuts" You're right. You did not say anything about lug nuts. So, you got that correct. My comment was meant only as a point of reference. -

"Ever since I tightened my rear axle u-bolts which where not very tight to begin with and loosened all the cab mount bolts and re-tighten them, my Vibration is gone that I had between 75 and 85. I have put about 700 miles on the truck since." I looked up the torque specs on the cab mount bolts and if I read correctly its 52 lbs. Seems like tightening as tight as one can would run the risk of crushing the cushion mount or bushing. And, doing so would increase the possibility of vibration transfer between cab and frame not reduce it. By the way, most lug nuts are spec'd to be torqued to about 90 lbs +/- a little. If you're tightening "as tight as you can" you're probably achieving 90 lbs or more, depending on leverage used and your strength. -

"If it had the dual exhaust, I thnk all hemi trucks have them now, they are pretty loud inside" Yeah, that's by design. I live in Dallas/Fort Worth area and have noticed that the primary demographic driving these hemi's seem to be kids, urban Cowboys you might say. And, usually the first thing they do is work over their exhausts to make them louder which is ok, I was young once too, lol! And just a side note that has nothing to do with vibration; the current version hemi is a hemi in name only. It's no more a hemi than the current GM 5.3 or 6.2 engines. In fact, both the Ram Hemi and GM new V-8's are more akin to the old sixties/seventies Ford 429 semi-hemi and Chevy porcupine 396/427 engines. Not saying there's anything bad about the current hemi as its a strong engine for sure. But, it's not the ground shaking twin rocker arm per head beast that made Richard Petty the King. That engine was discontinued sometime during late seventies early eighties I think. Just saying -

"15 w/5.8 SB, spray in liner and hard tonneau cover, 5.3 Z71 LTZ. Been shaking since day 1 at 72+" Sorry to hear that. Didn't mention it above but mine is a 4x4 as well but not a Z71. So, guess the only difference is with the Z's stiffer suspension, differentials, and your tonneau? I just happened to wander into this site while searching for other information a couple months or so ago. And, being a new owner kinda became interested in what the root cause(s) may be. The problems and their subsequent solutions are so varied it's impossible to focus on one problem as "the problem". But, I do see some possibilities; some appear just normal new vehicle problems of a wide variety of causes which is why nobody has come across a primary issue to go after. Some problems appear to be on vehicles that have been tinkered with such as lifts, oversize wheels and tires, etc. lastly, I'm wondering if road surfaces are causing some of the vibrations? I know that here in the Dallas Metroplex road surfaces, especially those fairly new, are concrete and thereby have expansion strips about every eight feet and have horizontal or squiggly traction grooves in the surface. The traction grooves are not very deep but they appear only about an inch apart and thereby transmitt a small amount of hormonic vibration into a vehicle. I've felt it in virtually every vehicle I've ever rode in. Could some of these problems be cause by road surface? Just wondering.... -

"From what I gather it almost seems like the more weight in the bed the worse if you have the vibration. How many miles do you have on your truck?" "and what size bed with the CC?" Ans to two questions. Q1: I have about 13k miles on truck, bought truck Memorial weekend. Also, I've made three tows with my camper, 25' about 6,500lbs wet. Tow were about 900 (Big Bend), 460, 460 (deer lease twice) round trip each. Q2: I have the short bed. -

Guess so far, knock on wood, I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't had this problem with my 2015 CC 6.2 LTZ. Just an observation; I've noticed that there hasn't been any comments concerning the truck bed either way about perhaps being a contributor to the vibration problem(s). I have a dealer installed spray-in liner. And, supposedly, it dampen's noise and such. It might be interesting to know whether those trucks with vibration problems have spray-in liners or not. Just noodling..... -
