Shake or Vibration Issues
Snoringbear replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Thanks, good feedback. I going to quizz them about the compressor. I have a large compressed in my garage. So, I could air up at home before hooking up. I'm concerned about a slow leak and finding out when I'm about head home that they're empty. Maybe I'll just find a longer come-along so to make hooking up the chains on my load lever hitch easier, grunt, groan, lol! -

Thanks rdnck, this appears to be just what I need. I'm going to call them today ans see if they have an installer list for here in Dallas area. Being that I often camp in remote areas I'm thinking I should go with compressor kit as well. What do you think about that? Is it bulky and where abouts on the truck is it installed. Btw, are you going to install yours yourself? I'm impressed if yes -

Who likes their 8 Speed?
Snoringbear replied to JacobC1983's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I've got the 6.2/8 spd combo. I was having problems with tranny making a hard shift when up shifting from 1st to 2nd when taking off from a stop sign and such. And, the same thing when down shifting when slowing down to stop. Didn't happen very often but enough to be irritating. So, when I took it in for an oil change brought it up with the service rep. When I picked it up GE said they ran all the codes and nothing showed. But, he also said that they reset the tranny back to factory settings so it would go through the relearn procedure. That helped a bunch. Problem now shows only occasionally, usually when it's cold during the first start up for the day. But, as you, this rig shows its stuff when under a load such as towing and I'm as you put it, leaning into it. Pulls my 6,000 lb TT as though it wasn't even hooked up. When towing, open my bag of pig skins, pop a soda, set the cruise, then sit back and enjoy the ride -

Here's an article I posted several pages back out of the WSJ. A good read and explains that this is an industry wide problem. Sadly, WSJ won't allow me to copy and paste. You'll have to be a member to access the article. Or, call a friend who will share their pw with you. http://www.wsj.com/articles/cranky-drivers-battle-the-wub-wub-wub-that-comes-from-cracking-a-window-1470683291 -
2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN

Im not sure why you're spewing so much emotion over this. But, nevertheless I'm not trying to clean up anything. You're the one doing the clean up. If you disagree, provide some facts. Otherwise, your comments carry no more weight than mine. Btw, your comment stating that I'm causing confusion is an attack on the intelligence of the folks who are on this thread. You appear to be one of those pink'o, liberal, elitist socialist to me. The folks on this thread are quite capable to think for themselves without you censoring posts for them. Suggest you do some deep breathing exercises, maybe breath in a paper bag or something. Everything will be ok -
2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN
Snoringbear replied to FOURKNUCKLES's topic in 2015-2020 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
Seems to me the confusion on your part resides with your poor reading comprehension. Note my excerpt and you will note I stated "when certain windows are DOWN." "Virtually every car/ truck built within the last thirty or more years exhibits harmonic buffeting when certain windows are down". but, no worries, these days we are all guilty of just scanning instead of actually reading. Peace -
2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN
Snoringbear replied to FOURKNUCKLES's topic in 2015-2020 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
Virtually every car/ truck built within the last thirty or more years exhibits harmonic buffeting when certain windows are down. Since air conditioning became the norm autos have been aerodynamically designed to be driven at speed with the windows up. I have read articles where BMW owners have duct taped empty water bottles to the leading edge of the window frame to break up the air flow, all sorts of DIY stuff has been tried. So, this condition is not unique to GM trucks and suv's for sure. -
Shake or Vibration Issues

Hey Bill, I also almost bought one the first year they (Avalanche) were introduced. The salesman actually talked me out of it, said the rear partition tended to leak, especially if removed frequently. Anyway, I've kicked their tires when truck shopping over the years but couldn't quite pull the trigger, partially as I recall they were priced higher than a equivalent CC pickup. Also, I find the High Desert bed configuration interesting because I enjoy camping and hunting although I've got a lot of rehab ahead before I can go tromping afield again. Speaking of, being I have a 1500 and tow about a 6,000lb TT I have to use a load leveler hitch. And, it requires some pretty serious muscle to hook up the chains that secures the camper frame to the leveler bars. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good air suspension load lever package that I could have installed? I am aware that there are other threads devoted to towing and such, but hey, we are all almost family here, right? Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. Btw, don't want to buy a 2500 as they ride too rough. -

Lol, Well, you know what they about beauty; "in the eye of the beholder". To me it kinda has the appearance of the discontinued Avalanche which I was sorry to see go. I don't use my truck for serious work, bought it for the 6.2L/8 spd combo so to tow my camper. For me the High Desert bed configuration appears to provide some interesting secure storage possibilities which would be handy when camping. I may check one out when they hit the show rooms just for grins. -

Saw this in Motor Trend; new package coming soon called High Desert Package. Per pics, I really like the secure bed option. Kinda reminds me of the discontinued Avalanche. Also, comes with Magnetic Ride. Anybody have that in a Denali? Your thoughts about it? Anyway, thought I would share the article. http://www.motortrend.com/news/2017-chevrolet-silverado-high-desert-offers-suspension-cosmetic-upgrades/ -

Only about 10% of total cost is in final assembly. And, F/A requires the least skill of just about any task along the manufacturing process as most of form/fit/function is computerized and performed by robotics. Hence, the reason it's so easy to relocate it offshore or out of country such as Mexico. -

Congratulations Jesse, looking forward to comments on your new truck. Hopefully, they will be positive. Your story is a modern update of "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" for sure. The little guy can prevail if he has the Perservence. You know, while driving home yesterday from voting I felt for the first time a shake in my truck. I immediately thought, "oh no, my truck is coming down with the dreaded Chevy Shake"! Then, after calming down and analyzing the situation, I realized it was actually me shaking, caused by my thinking about the prospect of the Hildabeast becoming POTUS! Hoping that it will go away in ten days but afraid I'm going to have to endure it for four long years Anyway, good luck with your new truck ! -

Got a recall notice in the mail yesterday. Nothing to do with shake or vibration. Just curious if anyone else got it. GM recall # 16007. Concerns module which controls airbag and pretensioner deployment. Solution is to reprogram SDM with new software. Have an appointment this Friday am. Just curious if any others got this notice. Btw, I drive a 2015 Silverado LTZ CC 6.2L/8 spd 4x4. -

Shake or Vibration Issues

Could it be that GM has switched from coax to fiber, hence the smaller diameter? I would like to think so. Oh, my wish list for a fix is my right side mirror, every week or two it won't open/close on the first push of the button. Sometimes takes a couple of open/close cycles. Had it checked at my last oil change but it couldn't be repeated. So, looking for a Shaman to drive out the evil spirit. Interestingly, I had the same exact problem on my 2008 Silverado. Guess it's in the GM gene pool or something -

Thanks Jesse, I'm making good progress. I was released to drive a couple days ago. So, that's been kinda like being let out of jail. Speaking of (trucks not jail ) I believe you mentioned awhile back that you had agreed to swap your problem truck for a 2016 Denali? Did you make the swap and if yes how does your new truck ride? Are you going to flip it for a Tundra? -

Hey C6Bill, glad you made it home ok. Yeah, truing and balancing the drive shaft would be a relatively inexpensive fix for sure. Wouldn't an easy way to test for an out of balance drive shift would be to lift the rear wheels off the ground by the frame? Then have someone inside the truck gradually apply power to the rear wheels, if the drive shaft is bad, out of balance or not true, wouldn't the rear wheels begin to increasingly oscillate as engine rpm is increased? Just noodling. By the way, what's happened to your wing-man Jesse? Seems he has gone dark. Hope he is ok -

Well, I must say I have found this thread entertaining reading, even informative on occasion. My take-away is that the problems and subsequent solutions offered are very varied (all over the map). And, consequently, vibration/shake is not and will not ever manifest itself as a recall or class action suit. Adding to the mix is the fact that a considerable number of the posters are DIY guys driving modified vehicles and thereby their experiences and problems just muddy the water so to speak. But, I wish no one ill will for sure. Just saying that if you're waiting for a mass bailout on this generation truck you're going to wait a long time. Calf Rope, I'm through -

====================John Deere, Below is the 2018 Silverado Rumors article I referenced a few days ago. This excerpt from the full article is what I found interesting concerning the new frame. Not sure what it means. "GM might design the new chassis so it will be backward compatible". "Still unconfirmed at this point, the future 2018 Chevrolet Silverado might be the all new truck everyone is expecting. This could be released in late 2018, most likely in December, and it should hit the market a few months after. The new truck should get pretty much an all new design. However, the actual details are still unknown. We do know for sure though that the upcoming pickups are all going to receive an all-aluminum body as well as probably other aluminum parts. This has been made clear by GM a while ago, and it should be a step in the right direction. On top of that, their trucks are going to use a new chassis. This will still be the usual ladder frame, but it will now be more rigid and lighter. Most of the running gear will also change with the new chassis, but something interesting came up about this. NEW DESIGN & CHASSIS – RUMORS GM might design the new chassis so it will be backward compatible with older parts. This could make the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado a great buy for those already having a model. Why? Because the chassis would easily allow swapping parts between the two which are usually very important, especially for a workhorse. There is still no word on what GM is going to do with the aluminum body. Some people even suggested that they worked with Ford in developing the process. We are not quite sure about that, though. While they did work together for the ten-speed automatic gearbox, the aluminum body is something specific to Ford. We do hope that GM will be able to offer the same type of quality aluminum as Ford even though they might end up with a heavier body. -

I live in an unincorporated area that's wedged in between Lewisville on the west, Plano on the east and Carrollton on the south. Name of the community is Castle Hills. I just returned home yesterday from back surgery (stenosis, L1~L5, two rods and bucket of screws). Anyway, can't drive for awhile or I would seriously see if we could hook up for lunch. When on these blogs for awhile we all develop perceptions of some of the players. You strike me as one of a group that I would characterize as "the objective thinkers". Others, well.... There's a myriad of motivations and objectives, too many parse, that these could the categorized in. Back to the vibration though; I haven't been able to determine if the most frequent occurring complaint is vibration and noise caused by road conditions or is the source inherit to the truck? If it's external (road) then I come down on the side "hey, it is a truck". And, even if it cost $50k+ it's still a truck. Maybe, because I learned to drive in my grandfathers 1951 Chevy truck on wash board dirt roads around his east Texas farm I have different expectations, don't know. West Lake is a nice area, wife and I considered building there, and Argyle, several years ago. If you like good ole southern food, have your hosts take you to Babes, in Roanoke, for lunch. Great fried chicken joint. Enjoy your visit to Texas! God Bless Texas -
Shake or Vibration Issues

When I first read the article I thought it was parody. But, it was a serious article. I'm one of the lucky one's who doesn't have the problem with my truck and I've never rode in one with the shaking/vibration problem. So, it's difficult for me to size it. However, having read this thread regularly, I have come to the opinion that the root cause has to do with the more stiff and rigid frame being used from the 2013 models on. That, along with the steel sheet metal under certain conditions causes a resonance and/or harmonic vibration. I'm guessing this is why GM in 2018 is going with an even stiffer more rigid frame along with aluminum sheetmetal. Aluminum doesn't resonate or transmit vibration to the degree steel does. I'm thinking this is why we don't hear of this problem in the Fords. But, then again I could be full of crap -

I was noodling around on the internet last night and came across an article titled 2018 rumors, something like that. On the 2018 Silverado it listed a stronger and stiffer frame is in the works. Also, stated the sheet metal will be mostly aluminum and appears GM is going to get on the V-6 Teapot band wagon. However, there was no mention of changing the logo to Ford.
