Buzzing noise coming from under truck
daleone3 replied to tndeerhunter125's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Almost sounds like the flywheel hitting the cover. Could be loose or cracked. Under load it goes out of round and hits the flywheel cover. Easy enough to check. Out a hand on the cover and run up the rpm’s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Shake or Vibration Issues
daleone3 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I am told by a GM employee the issue is "resolved " for 2017 models. I asked what was fixed and was told the fix was dampening of every drive and suspension component so it is not fixed but more buried across dampening components. Not looking for an argument-just sharing info that was shared at the dealer level by a GM engineer brought in site to address issues in 2016 models that were coming back with recurring issue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

RT I do appreciate the level of detail and effort you have put in and sharing the information, every little bit helps and unfortunately some people don't understand the value of a person's knowledge that actually creates shit out of nothing. keep it coming Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Shake or Vibration Issues

Chevy is trying to minimize their exposure on this, my suggestion would be to bring it back repeatedly and not let them off the hook until it is repaired. They are fighting buy backs at this point because the more trucks they buy back the bigger the problem is that they have to acknowledge and they have one most of them in arbitration. Their claim is that it is excluded from the warranty as it is a minor in normal vibration that occurs in trucks typically. The more visits and complaints that you can document the bed of your case but if you look through the thread which may take you days you will see that while some repairs have made it better there is not anyone fix that anyone can point to that completely fixes the problem, some fix the problem for a short period while others don't fix it at all. The key is to make sure that it is going back in for the same problem and at some point you want to find out who the General Motors zone manager is and start going up the food chain a little bit with your complaints but I understand they will fight it all the way. My brothers dealership had a GM engineer on site with a truck for a week trying to figure out the problem and they came to no conclusion in terms of what the cause was, they really don't know what it is so they are just throwing parts at this, tires, driveshafts, wheels, rear ends etc. Good luck, based on everything I had read I would say take your losses and jump into another brand or by an older product Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Loyal Silverado owner since 93. Just bought a one owner 2013 short bed reg cab Z71 with 26k miles from an older prior owner. The price was below book and pretty sure it will be my last GM after this screwing they are laying on owners. I could have had a new Silverado with huge rebates as you all know but I don't trust them or their new trucks and yes...this will cost them over time Selling my 06 ext cab if anyone is interested. In Mass near CT border. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

You are 100% right on the ram having potential for rust issues, that was a big reason I got rid of my 2014, the way the inner fender well on the bed is designed is just a hotbed for debris and moisture. I actually looked at a 2013 short bed and might be doing that deal, it is a one owner Z 71 package leather, tonneau cover, definitely looks like it was owned by an older gentleman. Feel more comfortable buying it when you're older truck with low miles, 26,000 versus buying a 2014 which could have potential for the shake. I have a 2006 extended cab Silverado with 140k on it but have some issues that are starting to creep which are going to be expensive, should still be able to get $9000 out of that and put it towards something else. With the ram, the risk of rust is far greater than on a GM product, my 2006 has zero rust, not sure why because I live in the Northeast but I always kept it clean during the winter times. Thanks for responding, this is a great thread and a great group of people (generally) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I had a 14 for a year , no issues at least nothing structural like the GM problem. Interested to hear your opinion on this I think any new vehicle comes with issues-it's a matter of accepting those which can be fixed and this Silverado issue is sill an unknown so prefer to avoid it. Nevermind. Don't know what I was thinking. Knowing what we all know would be an idiot to think I could get one without a problem. Gonna find a Ram Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Against my better judgement but looking at a 2014 regular cab short bed z71 with 30k mikes in it. No shake issues checked by GM service friend. Does anyone know of this was even an issue with shortbeds GM products ? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The vibration issue in this thread has been attributed to tires on multiple occasions. It is something that could develop in time so maybe keep an eye on it and be aware if something develops. I don't think it's a great tire anyway and with one recall I would not be surprised to see others Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

They may be fine now but could cause vibration later. GM found this through all the complaints re vibration so I would push them to replace them if you can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The thread is long and getting updated because it is an in going problem with new info coming in all the time. I have shared many updates courtesy of a relative that is a GM employee while others share possible fixes and what they are finding GM does not want dealers hucking parts and tires anymore. They are pointing customers to the warranty language in an attempt to discourage repeat visits and slow down the buyback liability which was getting to be too much for them to absorb Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

daleone3 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
One of these vibration cases just went before the New Hampshire State arbitration board and it was denied due to the defect not being present at the time of testing. Additionally customers are being reminded that the new vehicle warranty states that slight noise vibration or other normal characteristics of a vehicle are not covered under the new vehicle warranty. That is their way of saying if you own it you can keep it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

A poorly engineered truck will never be right. Clearly a design issue that transcends multiple components and systems on the truck. Push for buyback. The more that do the bigger issue it will become Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Just telling you what I was told. My brother has been giving me info on this for months when I told him I was looking at new trucks and told me to stay away. They do not know what it is. Could be length of driveshaft, wheel configurations , bad tires, a tooth out of spec gear in rear end or a combination of any of the above. It popped up on a new suburban the owner was driving and another similar problem on a corvette noted in this thread. Sounds like a bad supplier that was outfitting some part of the drivetrain. Tires and wheels don't fix it and they have shimmed trannys to change angle of driveshaft... go figure. Bottom line is it's a shitbox and I am a chevy guy all day but would not touch a GM product at this point Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The chevy dealer my brother works at, he run service had a GM engineer out last week looking at the problem and he was perplexed. Basically said they were fkd and did not know what to do. It is far more than is just being posted on this thread. They have 3-5 coming back every week and I suspect there is more than one issue causing the vibration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Brother sad three more came in today with the shakes. One had already gotten tires and they were hucking wheels and tires on the other two. They keep coming because they keep selling them. Owner is driving a demo with the shake but will not fix it until it is sold. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Ask around for the name of the GM Zone Manager or better yet, everyone with a problem should post to social media: twitter and use @chevy or @chevrolet in their post. GM monitors social media for this stuff and that will get their attention believe it or not. I had a problem with ADT and raped them on twitter and got a direct message from corporate offering to rectify the problem This is from twitter "@chevrolet @JHNemechek The new Silverado shakes and vibrates on the highway. Has GM figured out this problem yet? Use Facebook if you have it or twitter and put it everywhere. This is what it takes now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I guess the one problem I have is that they are selling brand-new trucks with a problem and you are coming back and getting shims was put into the driveline that will obviously need replacement at some point will be prone to failure overtime and miles. Chevy has been doing this shit for years, I have had three Dodge trucks in the past five years and I have to tell you that the drivetrain is far more buttoned up then anything Chevy is putting on the road. I still have my 2006 Silverado with 140k and will drive that into the ground before I give them any money for a substandard product that has to be shimmed and rebalanced constantly.
