  1. confirmed the ram trucks use same drive units as GM just FYI
  2. Just fYI - here is an excellent video on how to replace the shitty plastic gear and weak electric motor in there with a metal gear and high torque new motor
  3. anyone have a wiring diagram for the power fold mirrors ?
  4. Speaking of Ram, my buddy has a 2013 and his power folding mirrors also broke lol. Looks like a very similar set up as GM.
  5. well just for fun .. go to any used truck dealer and ask to manually fold the power folding mirrors a few times on the lot. Watch the guys reaction lol. They have a shelf life of about 5 manual folds and if you do it hard you can break it in 1 fold. They are total junk but its just the gears and motor that are bad, rest of mirror is very durable.
  6. Seriously ? do a search lol. These power mirrors are total junk, I wouldnt touch them if you have them unless you want to fix them. dont even manually fold them, that puts more stress than electronically folding.
  7. Not sure if anyone has seen this link yet but theres a bunch of nice parts in here now https://www.gruvenparts.com/shop-by-car/gm-truck
  8. Actually, this doesnt sound like its a tow mirror. It is the same gear and motor used in the 2007-2013 trucks, it just has a slightly different housing. But the link I gave you above would work for 07-13 power folding gears.
  9. Yeah but why the heck would you buy a new GM panel and replace it ? Thats like $400, and you already know how it will end up...just like this. Seems like a huge waste of $400 and a bunch of labor.
  10. Is anyone having trouble with the 2015 versions of these mirrors yet ? I was going to swap mine over for the new style but not sure if that was also having these issues.
  11. I called them, if its for the towing mirror, they have the replacement gear only but its not really listed. Just email [email protected] and he can sell you replacement brass gear section to replace the stupid plastic thats failed. Its cheap and its probably all that is wrong. These towing mirrors are stupid expensive and mostly good except this.
  12. I guess nobody cares about a permanent fix ? sheesh. I was thinking about that rope idea, that would be pretty uncomfortable on your arm. I really like the factory inner door handle as its soft and comfortable, but looks like it just doesnt hold up very well...
  13. So has anyone taken theirs apart yet ? Mine is acting up now too.
  14. Does someone have a VIN decoder link ?
  15. Thats not even that bad looking ! If anyone could spare a broken door skin, I will fabricate steel or aluminum brackets to permanently fix this stupid problem. If you can spare a door skin with a broken interior handle, please pm me. I will make a fix for you and send it back. If you cant spare the door skin, then let me know the part number and I will just buy 1 and get in our shop and design a fix for it.
  16. are you saying the mirrors need lube ? no, they need metal freakin gears in them. the thin plastic gear breaks 100% of the time, doesnt matter if its submerged in lube. Its just a flawed design (regarding power fold mirrors)
  17. I'll bet you the little plastic spur gear inside the drive unit is broken in half or missing teeth. Ive seen this happen alot and depending on how the gear is oriented, sometimes it will grab the mating gear and sometimes it will just let the motor spin. The real problem is that plastic gear itself, it should be metal. You can buy the upgraded metal components here, its the 1st item. If you have power folding mirrors, this is a smart upgrade because even if you dont power fold them much, all it takes is 1 manual fold cycle from the guy at the car wash and that cheap plastic gear usually goes snap. Once that plastic gear in there breaks, the mirror main spring doesnt get compressed and it lets the whole mirror wobble and vibrate as you are going down the road. http://www.gruvenparts.com/shop-by-car/gm-truck
  18. Awesome topic, thanks ! Heres 1 more for fixes for broken power folding mirrors, door lock actuators, door handles, trunk lock actuators, ect ... http://www.gruvenparts.com/shop-by-car/gm-truckLots of improved replacement parts here that you otherwise would spend a paycheck on to buy entire assemblies from GM. Theres also some helpful DIY's within the product pages incase you want to see how to take apart the mirrors or doors.Just an FYI to help out the forum members

  20. Did GM ever make a power folding TOW mirror ? All I see is manual versions...
  21. Has anyone tried to replce the standard pwr fold mirrors for tow pwr fold ? That's really what I want
  22. i forgot to post this but someone else gave me this link for the DIY on these mirrors. You can see a schematic on page 2 : http://www.gruvenparts.com/content/PDF/GruvenParts_Folding_Mirror_DIY.pdf
  23. Me 2. and I wouldn't touch a Ram with someone elses 10' pole !!
  24. They get it from their marketing people. Apparently it has very little to do with the actual quality of their products ;) Seriously, these trucks are pretty awesome aside from a few glaring defects like this. The good news is, these stupid engineered defects which only serve to funnel repair part/labor $ back to GM and their dealer networks are sometimes easy to fix. This folding mirror gear/motor assy is a perfect example. I'm not sure how you get away with power folding so infrequently when the truck damn near takes up a lane and a half with both dumbo mirrors deployed. I cant even get 2 vehicles in my garage if my truck has the mirrors out. Anyways, this is a pretty simple cheap fix and you get your power fold option (which you paid big bucks for) working properly again. I'll do it my next GM truck too.
  25. Thanks ! This is a great forum. I just called GruvenParts and spoke with them a bit, yes indeed they do have upgraded gears and motors for these units so Im betting thats what I will need. I picked up 2 so I can repair both of these silly things. http://www.gruvenparts.com/gruvenparts-com-strengthened-spur-gear-for-2007-2014-gm-trucks-folding-mirror-assembly/ And I use the fold mirrors everyday so this has to work reliably, otherwise my truck would sit in the street as its too wide for the garage.
