  1. i am having trouble with my 2010 Chevy silverado. after someone installed an aftermarket radio i noticed that my dash lights radio lights and hvac lights all stay on all the time. i assume a wire shorted out when i had someone install the radio. long story short i caught him with a 9v battery touching wires to it. he said he was trying to locate which speaker was which. i bought a harness and he used it. but i also noticed after i pulled it out that the illum wire was hooked to the acc 12v wire. i do not believe that was right to do. i checked ALL the fuses. all good. pulled fuse block to make sure all under wiring was good. checked out ok. replaced the dimmer switch no luck. even with the new dimmer switch i notice that it dosent always dim. most times it works but there are times where i get curios while driving and find its not working. i did find that one of the only way to get them off besides unhooking the battery is to unplug one of the clusters from the BCM. i was leaning on it being BCM problem but if it was wouldn't i have other issues with the truck? the other way is if i unplug one of the cluster on the back side of the left IP junction block. i have read a ton of these threads and have yet to see anyone with this issue. most issues i see are the dash lights don't work at all and this is not the case. every works fine. i also took the aftermarket radio out and still lights are on. i put the factory back in and still have this issue i also replaced the ignition switch and this did not help my issue. can you offer and solution?
  2. im pretty sure he shorted a wire because before i had the correct harness he told me that he would just hard wire it in. i believed him because he installed radios for a living. while he was fiddling with wires i did some research and read that its a bad idea to cut the factory harness out. i told him i wanted to just buy the correct harness. well when i returned he joked about popping a wire. he told me that they take a 9v battery and touch the speaker wires to the battery and it makes a buzzing sound. now i know nothing about electrical but this all sounded completely stupid to me and so i told him that i didn't need his help any longer and he wired the harness up and i plugged it in and all was well. until i noticed that my dash lights would not go off.
  3. i took the aftermarket radio out and even with no radio in the lights stay on. i installed the factory radio and still have the same problem. i looked at the aftermarket harness and i did see that he wired the illumination wire to the acc wire. im not a radio person but that dosent see right to me. but what i dont get it why even after the aftermarket radio was taken out why do i still have this issue.
