2023 5.3L Assessment
outrag1 replied to Jimbeau's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
I've got a 24 with the 5.3 and about 11500 miles. I do the first oil change early to get rid of break in material at about 1000 miles. Next oil change was at about 4k miles with the recommended 0w20 but switched to Amsoil. I did one more oil change at about 8K miles but this time switched it up to RedLine 5w30. Since the switchover on the last oil change, my pressure has been solid and there is no decline in oil level when I recently checked. I'll probably continue doing what I'm doing as it seems to be running great. -
It looks like there may be a re-design for the new 2027 model. The frame around the slider is different. Not sure about the roof spoiler or any other potential leaking spots... 2027 Chevy Silverado To Feature New Rear Window: Photos

White streaks black leather interior
outrag1 replied to outrag1's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Ya someone elsewhere suggested chem guys leather cleaner. I haven't tried much else besides microfiber and water yet on the new 2024. On my older 18 I tried different chemicals I had in the cabinet and nothing seemed to work but I cared less because I was trading for the new truck and the detail department probably made it presentable to the next buyer. It just seems like the same problem on both trucks (similar or same black leather interior) and didn't know if anyone else had experienced these issues. I don't know if the dye is coming off because both situations had a rough surface (my carhartt coat on the 24 and the canvas dog bag on the 18) rubbing against it or is it something more innocent that can be cleaned off? Thanks -
Attached is a couple pictures of my 2024 Silverado with the black leather interior. There's a couple white spots on the driver's door armrest and side of drivers seat. We've had a lot of snow cleaning this year with spillage when the door opens which would bring some moisture to these areas. My black Carhart coat (with the rough feeling material) also has these marks in the same area. The spots are not wiping off with water and a cloth. Any thoughts on what it is and how to remove? Now that I think about it, my 2018 with the black leather interior had the same problem on the pass seat where my dog's canvas supply bag would sit. I couldn't quickly clean that up either. Thanks

Considering shipping new truck from Laura
outrag1 replied to outrag1's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I ended up buying in MA about 8 months later. I got the same spec'd out truck as the 23 but it's a 24 and got it last August. I drove about 3 hours to get it so up and back same day. Trade was really good and new car price was decent for the time period. Right now the incentives are even better from GM. Laura definitely has some good prices, but for my specific case, given my age and other things, it wasn't in the cards for me to fly there and drive home. I did want to trade if possible because of the steep MA tax. The round trip shipping costs were approaching $3000 if I remember correctly and it may or may not go smooth based on some of the reviews I read. In the end I just didn't want to deal with some of the variables but I'm sure others have done it successfully. Good luck on your venture. -
2023 build quality. Mexico vs USA
outrag1 replied to Jimbeau's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I've had numerous vehicles (Silverado's and Tahoes) built in Mexico over the years and have not had any noticeable issues, at least to me. I'm in the process now of trading my 18 LTZ in for a new 2024 LTZ, which happens to be built in Roanoke. I hope my good fortune continues from the USA assembly as well. As far as the crooked door jamb sticker, a heat gun or decal/adhesive remover would allow for that sticker to be removed. The dealer/body shop should be able to handle this if it bothers you. They would even be able to obtain duplicate stickers if necessary I would think. -

Man that looks great. I was going to ask dieselfan1 for a tailgate shot like you just gave because I wanted to see how it matched with the chrome Silverado and Trim emblems. Thanks, beautiful truck! -

What color decal is the Chevrolet on the tailgate? Chrome, Silver, etc? Did you get it at bdtrims? Thanks. Great looking truck -
No, I just couldn't tell from your truck description or the picture. There are questions on whether "some" leaks come from the spoiler holes in the roof, but it appears the bulk of the evidence here is from the rear slider frame itself. Best of luck with the fix. The write up on this forum is excellent.

Do you have the rear slider?

Typical discounts on 2022 models?
outrag1 replied to Chevrolet1's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Keep in mind trade value too. I've been looking for a bit and got a quote from a dealer an hour away for $5500 off MSRP 2023 Silverado LTZ (GM incentives accounted for $1000 of the $5500). So that was pretty respectable. Their trade however was abysmal (compared to some other dealers) and they wouldn't budge on it. Had another dealer a couple hours away with same vehicle for $3300 off MSRP but a trade of $4000 higher so in the end it is actually a better deal. I agree with the comments on increasing dealer inventory in the upcoming months will bring prices more down to earth but I think the used car market will continue to take a hit and trades will go down further too. -

I can relate and I'm turning 60 in a couple weeks, so much harder than years ago. -

I had them check again and you're right. They made a mistake and it's $1400 each way, which of course is considerable. Thanks for mentioning Steve. -

Agree with you. I also have GM points approaching 2K. I need (want) to do the trade (if reasonable) at the same dealer to cut down on the F'ing Mass tax. I just spoke to a dealer closer to home and they're response on price was it's a different market in the mid-west. In other words, in the Boston area, they charge what the market will bear. -

The ordering lead time is sad. I'm seeing more and more trucks hitting lots now though, but up here in the Northeast they're holding onto higher price points. I went out of state last time too and saved many thousands. The trip to MO is further though and I'm not as young as I used to be haha, so going straight 19 hours each way is something I need to think about. Why do you say No Way on shipping? -

Laura uses their own transport company. They gave me an estimate of $1400 to ship the new vehicle and pick up my trade at my house. Distance is about 1300 miles each way. -

Thanks and I agree that dealers around here will start coming down to earth in the near future. I'm seeing more and more new inventory each day, so that makes sense it will happen. I have two identical units I could look at an hour away from me but their new pricing and trade value is roughly 8-10K more than Laura. That's significant. I had a bad experience with Quirk many years ago and choose not to do business with them. -
Laura Chevrolet has a 2023 coming in that meets most of my requirements. They are in MO and I'm in MA. Their new truck price is about 5K below MSRP. In the Northeast, there were no discounts at all. Laura was also the highest so far on my trade by several thousand. Does anyone have confidence that shipping a vehicle from MO to MA and picking up my trade on same truck carrier would work OK? Laura says the shipper would deliver new truck and pick up trade at same time. Does anyone have any recommendations on shippers? I know Laura must have one but I just want to do the thorough research. I've bought many new vehicles but never went through a shipping process. Driving to MO (or flying) is not in the cards so I need to rely on the shipping process and trust Laura's quotes, etc. Any thoughts appreciated. Bob

At what point are you trading up?
outrag1 replied to royalkangaroo's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I was in the mode of turning over every 3 years for minimal cost. My trade had great equity and GM/Dealers would have big discounts on end of model year trucks. Then Covid hit and here I am over 4 years later because inventory has been minimal, insanely priced new trucks, low supply, insane lead times on ordering, etc... The only benefit has been good trade values. I think the industry will change going forward. I'm seeing more higher trim level trucks on dealer lots now, which was not the case a year ago. The new car pricing is still MSRP (some places higher) for the most part, but I think that will go down as well as inventory stabilizes. The downside is the trade will likely go down with it a bit because of the surplus used car market. Anyway I'm looking to possibly get into a 23 LTZ at some point in the future with the right balance of lower new vehicle price and optimum trade value. I could maintain what I have, which has been great (2018 LTZ 5.3L 27K miles) but at some point down the road, you're stuck with a huge delta between trade value and new truck. -
Silverado 1500 Crew Assembly Location
outrag1 replied to outrag1's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Ya I believe they're coming to the US as well. I've looked at many window stickers over the last week for local dealers and they are listed as final assy in Canada (engine elsewhere). -
White Wagon Wheels were actually pretty standard but we're going way, way back to 70's - 80's timeframe.

Yes looks like they may have started the 1/2 ton as well in Canada... GM Adds Third Chevy Silverado Production Shift At Oshawa (gmauthority.com) Excerpt from the article: "The Oshawa Assembly plant in Canada is GM’s only truck plant capable of producing the heavy-duty Silverado HD and light-duty Silverado 1500 on the same production line. The automaker also produces the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 at its Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and Silao Assembly plant in Mexico, while production of the Silverado HD and Sierra HD takes place at the Flint Assembly in Michigan. Oshawa does not produce the GMC Sierra nameplate at this time." -

outrag1 replied to outrag1's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
In my original post, I stated that the Canada plant has opened a 3rd shift while the real issue is the tons of trucks already built waiting on shipping, not the immediate need for more manufacturing. I don't know for sure, but the "order to delivery" lead time may be greater if assembled in Canada. Therefore, if a 6.2 is ordered, it would likely be assembled in Mexico or US and have a quicker delivery time???? I've had several GM trucks built in recent years in Mexico and have had no issues. My preference for build location would be for quicker turnaround only and not any other reason. All locations may have the same delivery lead time but it was just a question as I'm not sure. -
Normally you could wet sand and buff the majority of that damage out, however the GM clear thickness in recent years is fairly thin. I gouged my 18 when it was new by having my snowblower to close to the back door (stupid I know). I ended up using the paint kit from the dealer and applied, wet sanded, and buffed a couple times and you really can't tell there was any damage there. It's risky cutting through the clear though. I've painted cars before so I figured I could fix it if the worst case happened. A body shop will base color the damaged area and clear the whole quarter panel to get it to look right.

Hey Guys, Does anyone know assembly rationale for 1500 Silverado (2023) in Roanoke, IN vs Silao, MX vs Oshawa, Canada? From the research I've done it looks like if you order a 5.3, the engine is made in Silao, Mexico but the Truck assembly is in the newly revised plant in Oshawa, Canada. On the other hand, the 6.2 is made in the US and the final truck assembly is either Silao, Mexico or Roanoke Indiana if you get the 6.2. I don't know what dictates the final truck assembly choice of Silao Mexico vs Roanoke Indiana, but there may be certain options that drive that... It appears on the surface that ordering to delivery is quicker if assembly is not at Oshawa Canada. They've added a third shift there but the real issue is the trucks already built sitting on their lot waiting for chip related fixes and working through shipping logistic problems.
