DIY sliding window leak permanent repair
tjonesdfw replied to Leevon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Same here. Every time we went to this particular dealership, we picked up the truck with something else broken. Our first window repair was horrible as well. There was sealant all over the glass and spoiler, they broke one coat hook and mangled the other when dropping the headliner and just left them for us to find at pickup, and left greasy handprints all over the headliner. I swear a child could have done a better job... its almost like they TRIED to make a mess. -
DIY sliding window leak permanent repair
tjonesdfw replied to Leevon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Has anyone here had their slider continue to leak AFTER the TSB sealing by a dealer? Fighting GM about the cost of a replacement slider now that its leaking again since they've already worked on it once before. -
Failed Lower Control Arm Bushings
tjonesdfw replied to tjonesdfw's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Agreed... absolutely everything seems designed to fail and be disposable. I'm not sure if they've manufactured the lower control arm to be unserviceable now, or if the book just tells the dealer its easier and faster to replace the arms instead of pressing bushings out and in. I was shocked at the $2,300 price to replace two control arms too. Guess I just got my money's worth from my GMPP warranty. Unfortunately the extended warranty won't pay for the other $4,000+ worth of repairs this pile of junk needs. -
Rear camera cuts out in reverse

Have been driving a 2022 Silverado 1500 loaner while my 2021 camera system gets diagnosed, and the 2022 loaner is flashing to a black screen with a red exclamation in reverse. Had to just laugh... clearly GM is lost on this one! -
I've tried clamping it open and it still rattles. I've heard a few straight pipe videos, but they all left the flapper in ahead of the straight pipe. Did you remove the flapper AND straight pipe on any with a 5.3? Hate to get it too loud and end up with drone as much as I drive on the highway. Still under a GM extended warranty and know several guys who've had issues with the Range OBDII devices causing other problems.

Failed Lower Control Arm Bushings
tjonesdfw replied to tjonesdfw's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I haven’t really seen it anywhere either other than one mention by a user here in an unrelated topic, saying he had front end bushings go out really early. The dealer says it’s rare but they have seen it a few times. I still can’t get a clear answer from the advisor whether it’s the lower ball joints or the actual bushings. Either way, to have visible play in them at approximately 65,000 miles still seems unacceptable, especially for a 1/2 ton truck that’s not abused or worked hard. Not exactly confidence inspiring and adds to a very long list of warranty issues we’ve had. -
Dealer says the leaf spring inserts have started to disintegrate and fail on our 1500 Denali. It squeaks pretty badly going over speed humps, with any flex, and even when stepping on and off the tailgate or rear bumper... all worse when cold. Unfortunately, they want $620 to replace them all which sounds excessive. They say the original parts were not lifetime warrantied, but the replacement parts carry a LLPW. Has anyone else had these go bad?
-
Dealer says the lower control arm bushings are shot on both sides of our 1500 Denali, with visible play at approximately 65,000 miles. Truck has rarely seen some VERY light dirt and or gravel road use, but is primarily highway driven. No lift, level, and factory size/rated tires. Thankfully the GMPP warranty is covering the $2,300 repair, but can't believe bushings are shot this soon. Is this common on '19-'25 trucks?
-
Finally had a dealer take the time to diagnose the loud metallic sound under our truck on cold starts. They confirmed my suspicion that its something in the exhaust system and they suspect the flapper valve. Unfortunately, the exhaust is one giant piece and the flapper is unserviceable, AND exhaust components aren't covered under the GMPP warranties. Therefore, the repair is a $2,400 replacement of the exhaust using GM parts. Is the Borla made GM performance exhaust the only option out there that retains a similar flapper device, ? Trying to decide if its worth it to replace with factory exhaust or go aftermarket, and don't want any drone.

Rear camera cuts out in reverse
tjonesdfw replied to Crambone's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Mine goes back in Friday for what I think is the 8th visit for a fault/failure in the surround camera failure. For the second time, the drivers surround camera flashing between the image and black, or just all black, but we've had the black screen multiple times too. I'm not convinced GM knows how, or wants to spend the money it would take to fix this system on existing models, as all they've done is throw parts at it... multiple camera modules, multiple cameras, new wiring harnesses, software updates, you name it, and here we are at 4.5 years and 60K+ miles with the same problem it's had since it was new. -
In the last several months, both the front and rear suspension on our '21 Sierra 1500 Denali 4wd with approximately 64,000 miles, have started popping/creaking. I first started noticing a pop/creak at the front left when I step out of the truck and off the running board as the truck rebounds. I weigh about 215lbs, and hardly ever tow or load the truck heavy, so its not like its ever getting an unusually heavy load. Recently the right rear started making the same sound when stepping off the tailgate step or corner bumper steps. Now, when driving at slow speeds, you can hear what sounds like the same creak coming from the front left suspension with any suspension movement. Since it has Adaptive Ride Control, and with the sound coming from front AND rear, I wondered if the sound we're hearing could be coming from the ARC shocks failing? I wouldn't think bushings front and rear would all be worn at 64K?

Who trusts the 25's with the revamped 6.2l
tjonesdfw replied to MTY55's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I guess the question is whether you trust what GM says, for example in its statement to GM Authority "A series of crankshaft and connecting rod manufacturing improvements implemented on or before June 1st, 2004, addressed contamination and quality issues. Model-year 2025 vehicles were built after these improvements and are not included in the recall." Its probably too soon to tell if the 2025 trucks that have failed are within the normal accepted rate of engine failure for modern vehicles, OR if they are failing in the same way as the recalled motors. If they are failing in the same way, that tells us GM either doesn't have a clue what is causing the issue yet, or they didn't make any manufacturing changes. Either way it tells me to stay away from the L87 for the foreseeable future. -

tjonesdfw replied to MTY55's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I've been told by an acquaintance who is a GM service manager that they have had 2025 6.2 trucks blow up already as well. We have several recalled 6.2 trucks and they advised we either buy 5.3s for now, go to another brand, or wait until the 6.2 L87 has been discontinued and replaced by the 6th gen small block. Time will only tell if the 6th gen likes to eat lifters, cams, and bearings like the current generation though. -
Had the rear window leak TSB done on our '21 Sierra over a year ago after multiple camera module replacements and the dealer finally claiming water had been dripping on the modules and shorting them out. When they originally did the window TSB, we had not seen evidence of water at the top of the window or on the headliner. Lately, the truck has a wet/mildew smell for a while after being out in the rain, and the driver side camera started acting up for the 7th or 8th time yesterday. Is there an easy way to pull the rear seatbacks and leave it open for a while to see if we can find evidence of water intrusion. Checked all the floorboards and felt as far under the rear seats as we could and didn't find moisture, but clearly something is getting in to smell like this.

New bulletin/Campaign 6.2 L87
tjonesdfw replied to tbarn's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I wondered if that's why they are so eager to trade at some dealers... I guess once its in inventory, a truck gets priority for the recall regardless of whether the VIN had come up for a final letter yet? -
Side Mirror Camera Intermittent Failure
tjonesdfw replied to tjonesdfw's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Latest update… the driver side camera failed again. Either flickering black or solid black. This is will be the 7th or 8th time to take it to the dealer for the same damn camera issue. No faith GM even knows how to fix the cameras in these trucks. -
Has anyone here bought a vehicle with GM Mobile Service Plus, and been successful in using it? We are in the DFW Texas area, and I've heard several reports that people paid for this because it was on their window sticker, only to find out none of the dealers in their area participated, so they couldn't use the service. Is there a way to verify availability of this service in a particular area?

5.3 L84 vs 3.0 LZO Reliability?
tjonesdfw replied to tjonesdfw's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Appreciate the advice, especially from someone in the trenches. All told, the electrical issues on our 5.3 never left me on the side of the road, and only put it in the dealer when I wanted. I guess that's all you can ask for these days. I've owned every truck brand but Toyota (none without issue) and I'm certain they're all going to get more complex by the year. I had a Ram that liked to eat plastic capped radiators and fry tail light circuit boards nearly every few months. Also had an F150 with the 5.4 that had the top end re-built 3 times for collapsed lifters and god knows how many cam phasers, but then went to a 3.5 Ecoboost that ran like a top for tens of thousands of miles before starting to need cam phasers. Before this latest Sierra, we had a GMC Canyon Denali that filled up the floorboards like a bathtub every time it rained or went through a carwash... 4 repair attempts only to find out the firewall was mis-stamped from the factory and the dealer bought it back. Now a 5.3 Sierra with gremlins and a 6.2 SUV that could give up the ghost. Nothing is immune! Definitely leery of the modern diesel emission equipment too after seeing the issues with fleet trucks in our industry... almost all of them are going gas now. Not sure how I feel about gas particulate filters that many say are coming on the 6th gen smallblock and others... going to be an interesting couple of years. -
5.3 L84 vs 3.0 LZO Reliability?
tjonesdfw replied to tjonesdfw's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
If I could fit a 6.6 gasser in my garage when in town I would own one in a heartbeat compared to all the half ton offerings. Wanted to buy a 5.0 F150 in 2021 but only a moron would have paid the 10K dealer markup they still had around here at the time. It sure did sound healthy for as small as it is. Wondering how long Ford keeps that 5.0 alive though. -
What does everyone here think is most reliable... 5.3 OR 3.0? After a prolonged period of electrical issues with my 5.3 Sierra (all documented on this forum), I was on the cusp of trading for a 2024 6.2 L87 truck when the recall hit the fan. I had been quietly monitoring the issue because we also own a GM SUV with the 6.2 which ended up being under the recall. Not wanting to end up with two vehicles with potential engine issues, I thought I would just wait to trade until 2025 or 2026, but now I'm told that the 2025 6.2s are blowing up too. I've been reluctant to consider the 3.0 Duramax because most of my trips are relatively short; 12-14 miles one way, with a longer highway trip once or twice a month, but drive on average 15K-18K miles a year. I've had guys in the office with multiple blown 6.2s, but also several with repeat issues with coolant control valves on LM2 and LZO 3.0 Duramax trucks, all with very long times at the dealer. I'm at my wits end with GM, and worry I'm just trading one problem for another if I traded the 5.3 with electrical gremlins for a new LZO Duramax that needs a backordered coolant valve every 30K to 40K miles. Unfortunately I cant get a 5.3 in the AT4 or AT4X, so I would be forced into another Denali if I stuck with the 5.3. I also hear rumors the 6th gen gas small blocks in the 2027 will have more emissions equipment such as EGR, which sounds like an even bigger mistake. Wondering if its time to jump ship and go somewhere else.

New bulletin/Campaign 6.2 L87
tjonesdfw replied to tbarn's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
One of our local dealers claimed they would take recalled L87 trucks on trade with no change in value. When we started looking into trading one of our recalled vehicles for a new 2025, someone we know with another GM dealer told us to wait because they've had several 2025 6.2 trucks blow in the last few weeks. Knowing that, we hit the brakes on trading for a new one. If the 2025 motors are still bad, then I doubt anything changes for 2026 either. Has anyone here tried to trade an under recall 6.2 vehicle to another brand dealership? I've heard mixed signals on whether anyone will even take one on trade. -

Exactly, with their track record, I don't think I'll "trust" a next gen small block until its had a few years of miles and reports. My dilemma like many others is, the options are limited and they all have their own issues. You're just picking one of multiple evils these days. -

I doubt GM will extend the warranty for the life of the vehicle, but they "should" extend the recalled vehicles powertrain warranties, and warrant subsequent replacement engines for a period of time as good will to customers. From the owners I know that have already had this replacement done though, GM only warrantied things through their factory powertrain coverage that was tied to their original vehicle in service date. I suspect if you were close to the end of your powertrain coverage, you might receive a token extension if you made a big stink with GM customer service. Bottom line though is GM nor any other manufacturer really cares about the consumer... with numbers like this, its all driven by the bottom line, NOT doing what's right. There's no way an auto manufacturer could do what's right for the consumer, and simultaneously be competitively profitable against the others who don't. -

Great post pointing out the difference in how this has been handled by GM vs other manufacturers. #2 was the number and nature of the complaints, crashes, injuries etc. and the causal and contributing factors. Clearly GM doesn't want to disclose either of those and is running PR damage control with that CBI request. #9 pertained to the investigations, testing, etc. GM performed to ascertain the problem as well as the associated engineering group and suppliers, and #10 to any modification and/or change implemented, and identification of the part numbers affected. I assume most manufacturers would claim CBI on those two requests, but as you said, it sure doesn't instill any consumer confidence to hide the information requested #9 and #10 entirely and not just redact "confidential" information. Consumers therefore have no concrete evidence that GM has fixed the issues in replacement motors, or '25 and '26 models other than the vague statement they released. My guess is GM's main effort is to get as many vehicles as far out of warranty as possible, then attempt to fix the issue with the '27 redesign and next gen motor. -

GM's already at nearly 5%, just with the 28,101 reports related to this issue to date, assuming that's based on 597,630 stateside vehicles that are part of the recall. While its correct that only 2-3% had "loss of propulsion," that number doesn't appear to capture ALL the failed L87s under this investigation, just the vehicles that have been reported to be on the road driving when they failed. Clearly there are more vehicles out there that haven't failed yet; some I personally know have just had failures in recent weeks. Hard to say what the percentage actually is, but I'd gamble its well north of 5%.
