  1. Thanks for the feedback! Guess it makes sense to start with the $20 part before two $100 replacement latches! Edit: to rule out the button being the issue, would it be reasonable to expect that if I connect the two pins on the harness that leads to the actuators that they trigger? I used my multimeter to touch both tips of the pins and nothing happened. Yet I do get continuity on the button side itself.
  2. Hey guys. I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 SLT (47K mi). My upper endgate on the multipro tailgate is no longer functioning; no click, no flash of the tail lights, absolutely nothing happens, even when you hold down the button for several seconds, etc., So it's not the override function. The main tailgate latch and rear cameras are functioning just fine, just not the upper tailgate. I was vacationing in VT last week and it was working normally during that trip. Came home and power washed the VT silt off the truck. Next day the upper portion of the multipro tailgate is just dead, as described above. Popped the upper tailgate panel caps off to expose the buttons and connected the upper tailgate release button's wire harness to a multimeter and was getting a successful continuity test while pressing the button. I then popped off the large plastic full tailgate cover to expose the actuators and wire harness. No visible damage to anything (some dead stink bugs though). I was able to manually release the upper endgate by flicking the manual release tabs on the actuator itself, and tried the button again and still no action from the actuators. Again, the main tailgate actuators and button is fine, the upper tailgate actuators are just dead. Question: could power washing have shorted out an actuator?? The tailgate was closed and the toneau cover was on, but I did flush out the gap between the upper and lower gates as there was silt in there. Does anyone know how to test the actuator? It has four pins on the driver side actuator. Part# 23392726. By the way, I am aware of the previously mentioned toneau cover issue, and have folded it back, but have never had a problem with it releasing while on for the past few years. Double pressing the tailgate button on the key fob only drops the main tailgate. I appreciate any insight. I searched and searched for hours and couldn't find a similar post/experience. Edit: the actuator part numbers I have for the upper endgate are: Driver side: 23362726 (new part number is 85530794) Passenger side: 23362727 (new part number is 84903235) If anyone knows how to test these, I'd really appreciate it!
  3. Just curious, did you test the old button with a multimeter? My upper button stopped working this week. It's not the disable "feature" as when I press the top button or hold it down for several seconds, the tail lights do not flash. Key is in pocket. Bottom button (full tailgate) works fine. I disconnected the plug closest to the button, hooked it up to the multimeter to run a continuity check and it does sound when you press the button. Stumped here.
  4. Thanks! I believe that second picture on page five is exactly where it was!
  5. Hey all. I just wanted to share a recent experience with my 2019 Sierra 1500 SLT that may help some of you. A couple of months ago the check engine light came on and the code pointed to an issue with the cooling fan. All of the fuses were fine and controlling the fan directly showed it was operating just fine. Long story short, it ended up being... a short. Turns out the wiring harness behind the front driver's side wheel well - which connects the computer to the fan - was rubbing against a piece of plastic, enough that it wore away the protective sleeve around the wire harness and eventually wore through the control wire for the fan. Will try to update this post with a picture from the mechanic, but he ended up soldering in a new section of wire, re-sheathing it, and the wrapping the harness in a rubber sleeve. I hadn't seen any similar issues reported for the same code, so just wanted to share in case you run into this, too. He said it took him at least four hours to find the culprit.
  6. Hey guys. I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 SLT with 265/65/18 wheels and the stock Fortitude HT tires - which are on their last legs at about 45K. Looks exactly like this: https://www.apchevy.com/inventory/used-2021-gmc-sierra-1500-slt-four-wheel-drive-crew-cab-3gtu9del3mg124623/ I found a pair of brand new take off Elevation rims with 275/60/20 Trailrunner ATs for about $150 more than a set of new tires for my existing wheels. Will these elevation wheels bolt directly into a stock SLT without any adjustments? Otherwise I'm looking at either Toyo Open Country AT3s or Falken Wild Peak AT3s for my existing SLT rims (pictured in link above; at 265/65/18). I like the look of the black elevation wheels, but know the Trailrunner AT tires that come with them are somewhere between the Fortitude and the Toyo/Falkens based on the ratings and reviews I'm seeing. Thanks for your input!
