Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a redundant question, but I couldn’t find the answer from other threads. I’m wanting to install pod lights on my utility trailer to use as reverse lights. I’ve have a 2021 GMC AT4 1500 and don’t want the trailer pods come on every time the vehicle is in reverse. My plan was to use one of the OEM upfitter switches to activate the trailer reverse lights. I was thinking of cutting or depinning the vehicle’s 7 pin reverse wire and connect a 10ga wire from the truck’s reverse 7 pin to the upfitter switch. I could then use the switch as a trigger for a relay to activate the trailers reverse lights.
My uncertainty is if I do cut or depin the truck’s 7pin reverse wire and connect it to the powered upfitter switch, will it cause problems with the advance trailering system? I know these trucks use the resistance from the trailer to activate the 7pin, but not sure if modifying the reverse pin will cause faults or errors.
Thanks for any information anyone can share. I’m sure someone has already tried this.
