  1. There is a recall for certain 2025 trucks for missing owners manual More info here: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/12/chevy-silverado-recalled-for-missing-owners-manual/
  2. I would REALLY like to be able to open the cover while the kayaks are on the racks; Has anyone tried the KB Voodoo Max Modular Utility Rack? It's claimed to work with the Diamondback cover and still allow the cover to open. Link to website: https://www.max-modular.com/ford-f35...tonneau-covers Or the TRUKD 24.5" Bed Rack? Website: https://gettrukd.com/products/trukd-...42987764580528
  3. I'm shopping for a cover that is strong enough to stand on and can be used with (removable) racks. The racks would be used for kayaks (2) and would not be left on year round. The Diamondback HD with the Yakima rack system is currently my top pick. Link to Diamond HD: https://diamondbackcovers.com/produc...nt=28732457161 Link to Yakima Rack System: https://diamondbackcovers.com/produc...39663404417123 I'm hoping some current/past owners will share their experience and what they consider to be pros & cons These things are not what I would consider cheap ($3,948); are they worth the price?
  4. I wonder if adding a lubricant to the fuel would extend the life of these pumps? Something like Lucas Oil Complete Fuel Treatment, Marvel Mystery Oil, or Sea Foam? https://www.lucasoil.com/product/fuel-treatments/ https://marvelmysteryoil.com/products/marvel-mystery-oil https://seafoamworks.com/sea-foam-motor-treatment-oil-fuel-additive/
  5. Nice! No problems just tying kayaks to racks? Racks are stout enough not to flex and buffet at freeway speeds without a strap from bow to front of truck?
  6. Thank you very much for the additional picture, I really appreciate that. It doesn't look like the base rails interfere with the tonneau cover at all, they must be fastened to the stake pockets? I've seen some rack bases that clamp to the inside bed rail where most tonneau covers get clamped, which then interferes with the cover. That set-up you have looks really good.
  7. That looks like a great set-up! I'll definitely be checking that out. Is it fairly easy to remove racks when not needed?
  8. #1 Chevrolet Protection Plan is the extended warranty Since I live South of the border I'm used to thinking in miles. I'm going to need my calculator. If I'm converting properly, 100,000 Kilometers = a little over 62,000 miles. So 7 years or 62,000 miles. If you don't drive a lot you could be covered for 7 years. I drive roughly 12,000 miles (19,312 kilometers) per year so that warranty would only last me a bit over 5 years. So not great for me but could be good for you. You should have a contract that looks like this: https://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/chevrolet/na/us/english/index/owners/warranty/06-pdfs/CHVSC_230524_SAMPLE.pdf It lists everything that is covered and what isn't. #2 Chevrolet Pre-Paid Maintenance basically means you paid up front for a specific number of oil and oil filter changes and tire rotations. I do my own maintenance so I haven't read the specifics of this plan. I was able to find a sample contract. You should have been given a contract that looks like this: https://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/chevrolet/na/us/english/index/owners/warranty/02-pdfs/chevrolet-pre-paid-maintenance-sample-contracts-2-10-2022.pdf It should say how many oil changes you paid for. If it were me, and I was only driving about 14,000 kilometers per year, I would change the oil twice per year. So if you bought a 7 year (84 month) plan I would think your contract would be for about 14 oil changes. I included links to sample contracts for reference but I highly recommend reading the contracts you were given carefully and make sure they will work well for you. Now for my fine print; I can't guarantee my conversions are correct. Everything here is opinion and should be treated as such. I do not claim to be a professional (anything) nor do I claim to be intelligent.
  9. It is an option on gas trucks, uses cruise control to set it. Sorry I have no idea about adding on to truck not ordered with it
  10. Have you tried this https://www.gmparts.com/technical-resources/service-repair-manuals website yet? It's only $22 for three days. Can do a lot of copying or printing in 3 days. Paper manuals usually aren't available until a vehicle has been out a few years and then they are usually around $300 - $600. I have not tried the GM online manual (yet) but I have used the Honda online manual and it is identical to the paper manual. I am very glad these online manuals are available, so much cheaper.
  11. Happy to assist. If you bought the top level (Platinum?) coverage it does cover a lot, but not as much as the factory 3/36. Depending on what you paid it may be worth the peace of mind. I'm currently shopping for myself and the best price I've found so far is $3,209. That's for the top coverage for 8 years, 100,000 miles, zero deductible. There are many time/mileage/deductible options. Haven't decided yet what I'm going to do but I'm leaning toward not getting the extended warranty...
  12. Couple of great reviews here, hopefully others will share their experiences as well, extremely helpful to hear honest feedback after the honeymoon stage is over for those of us that are still in the shopping stage...
  13. If you bought the actual GM warranty, "Chevrolet Protection Plan", I believe there is a 30 day full refund period and then a prorated refund after 30 days. There is info here: https://www.chevrolet.com/protection-plans/chevrolet-platinum-protection And all the fine print is here: https://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/chevrolet/na/us/english/index/owners/warranty/06-pdfs/CHVSC_230524_SAMPLE.pdf
  14. You can access the GM service manual online for a fee. $22 for three days. This is what I intend to do (after I get my truck) Here's a link; https://www.gmparts.com/technical-resources/service-repair-manuals
  15. I had asked the dealer to send me some specific details about the warranty and just received an email a few minutes ago. He didn't send anything that tells me what's covered and what isn't, so I replied back asking for more. What he did say is that 72 month is the longest they offer and a 72 month, 60,000 mile warranty is $3,200! And the time/miles start at time of vehicle purchase, so it's really a 36 month 24,000 mile warranty. Sorry, I'm not spending $3,200 for 3 years and 24,000 miles of coverage. I've got more looking to do.....
  16. I'm very close to purchasing a 2024 GM (still deciding between GMC & Chev) 3500 crew cab short box 4x4. I have never purchased an extended warranty before but all of the electronics and high price of components has me considering it this time. I know with Ford you do not have to buy right away and do not have to buy from same dealer as vehicle. There are several Ford dealers that sell the warranty online for a considerably lower price (about half) then my local dealer. I've done a lot of searching online and get the impression that a GM warranty has to be purchased at same time as vehicle? I can't find anyone selling online and can't find any prices at all. Extended warranties are a high profit item and I know dealers have a lot of flexibility in the price they charge so I hate to go in unprepared. My questions are; does a GM extended warranty (protection plan) have to be purchased from the dealer at time of vehicle purchase? Is there any place I can look for pricing? I would like to compare prices for different time/mileage options.
  17. Thank you for the suggestion. Looks like racks mount on the cover? I'm hoping to be able to open the cover while racks are loaded. I believe I need to find racks that mount to the side rails and a cover that mounts between the side rails.
  18. Completely agree. I believe there are aftermarket pans with drain plugs but I haven't looked into that yet.
  19. Good point. I believe GM still does? I looked under the Ford I test drove and didn't see a single zerk.
  20. 2024 3500 Crew cab short box I want a hard folding or rolling tonneau cover but I also want to add racks for carrying ladders, pipe, boards, kayaks, etc. Would anyone like to share their experience, pictures, or recommend a cover and rack set up? Or point me toward a thread that already covered this? Thanks in advance for any advice
  21. Reliable is my #1 concern. What are you doing to your transmission? The trans is another concern I have about the Ford, they use a plastic pan that I am not fond of.
  22. Some of the bickering is like a bunch of 6 year olds, makes it hard to follow some of the threads, much prefer this forum. Another plus for GM Very glad to hear you're happy with your truck! Hope I will be just as happy one of these days..... Did I mention I'm having a hard time adjusting to current prices? I think I may have messed up with my original post. Wondering if I should re-post the second portion asking for advice on racks in the mods portion of this forum?
  23. Granger Ford? I'm also on a Ford forum trying to get as much info as possible. There are some extremely smart and helpful people on these forums.....as well as some less pleasant I was nervous about the oil usage, but there are so few reports I decided not to worry about that, anything mass produced is going to have a few duds. I am VERY concerned about Fords quality control and high number of recalls. When I talk about GM I'm referring to both GMC and Chevrolet. As far as appearance I like the GMC but of course that's just personal opinion and we all like different things. Appearance isn't at the top of my priority list, I put function first. If the best functioning is also the best looking then that's a win-win. I've only driven one Chevy and one Ford, and they were a couple weeks apart, but I really preferred driving the Ford. I need to make time to go drive a couple more on the same day.... Good point about the brakes
  24. I prefer the GM IFS over the Ford monobeam front axle. Prefer GM bed, it's a little bigger, straighter sides, seems more "usable" This is a generalization, but GM trucks tend to be easier to work on. I'm just talking about the easy stuff that I can do myself; oil changes, brakes, replacing a starter, etc The thing that I find most appealing about the Ford is driving it. I like the seating position better, the feel of the seat, and the view out the windshield. The GM hood is too high and seat too low. Now this is very subjective and only applies to me. I prefer the 7.3 in the Ford, not a fan of direct injection in GM. (gas engines) I'm ready to be swayed one way or the other.........
  25. I don't actually own the truck yet so I'm looking at the online manual, just failed to see it. I saw the page # in your post so I checked and sure enough, there it is. I'm trying to decide between GM and Ford. Each truck has things I like and things I don't like. For what these things cost now I want to make sure it'll do what I want and hopefully some day I can get over the price and enjoy using it. Thanks again for your assist, I do appreciate it
