2024 Silverado 3500 Crew Cab short box 4x4. Any idea how much weight the sides of the box are rated to carry? Or where I can look to find a rating? My searches are failing. The dealer is clueless. I want to add racks for carrying ladders, pipe, boards, kayaks, etc. Probably no more than 300 lbs. Racks I've read about list a weight capacity for the racks but in the fine print say not to go over the trucks capacity. Which makes sense, I just have to find the trucks capacity.... There are also different mounting options. Some use the stake pockets, some sit on top the side and have a flange that goes down and clamps to the inside bed rail, some have a rail that mounts on top the bed side and the rack mounts to the rail. Any experience with which is best? I also want to add a tonneau cover so if anybody can recommend a cover and racks that play well together I'd love to hear about them.

Owners Manual says to check tire pressure while cold. It is normal for pressure to increase while driving and the tires warm up. If you park in the sun the tires in direct sunlight will read a little high (from warming up) so best to check in the shade.

With our car (Honda CRV) I can log in on Honda website and access the service manual for a fee, do you know if GM has something similar? I am not having any luck finding any kind of service info. Does anyone know the procedure for checking the transmission fluid level in the new Allison branded 10 speed behind the 6.6 gasser? Should it be checked cold, at a certain temp, while engine is running, etc? The dealer would not tell me the procedure for checking the fluid so I asked if I could buy a service manual, they told me that no service manual is available for the '24s, is this true? I think I need to find a different dealer.....

This is good advice. Since the camper will be within spec of your current truck, and you love your current truck, try it. That way you'll know for sure. I would love to hear out it works out if you don't mind reporting back...

I've always done my own maintenance. Always keep a log and save receipts. I've never had any problems with warranty, never even been asked for records. Just make sure you use recommended fluids, like oil that has the Dexos rating.

I am in the market for a new truck (3500, SRW, 4x4) and considering a diesel. I have zero experience with diesel, never owned one, never knew anybody that owned one. My biggest concern (aside from fear of the unknown) is how reliable are they in cold weather (Northern Minnesota)? Winter is a busy time for me and I need a truck I can depend on. I frequently stay in remote areas, no electricity (except for a small generator), and far from any kind of tow service. Will a diesel truck reliably start when it's between -25 and 0 (degrees F.)? The truck would always be outside, even at home. I don't really "need" a diesel for the loads I'm towing, but I do get tired of the downshifting and high rpm that are normal with a gasser. I would love to get some input from people that use their diesel pickups in cold weather. Should I even be thinking about diesel or stick with gas?

I think you can be quite confident that it will not pull it all over the US with ease. A 15k lb 5th wheel is not only heavy but will also push a huge amount of air. Could you do it? Sure, but it will be slow, noisy, burn lots of gas, and not with "ease". I'm in the market for a new truck and just found this forum a couple days ago. The trailers I pull are only about half the weight you're talking about but they are boxy and pushing through the air is what really works my current vehicle. I know I don't "need" a diesel for what I'm towing but I'm sure leaning that way. If I was towing even bigger and heavier like you're talking about I wouldn't just be leaning toward diesel, I would be buy it. That was really easy deciding what someone else should spend their money on, wish it was that easy to decide what to spend mine on..... I wish you luck with your decision.
