  1. You do not want to use the cruise for the first 500 or so miles. The engine rings are still in the break-in period. The dealer should have mentioned this to you.
  2. My brother was recently in the same boat as you are. All he could find were high-mileage, over priced trucks in his price range, he was trying to justify one of them because of his needs. I told him to look into a new gas truck in the 3/4 or 1-ton range. He bought a 2021 2500HD with the new 6.6 gas motor and could not be happier. The gas trucks do not have the markup or wait associated with the diesel trucks, and its capabilities are substantial, and its warrantied. If that is not something you are interested, and If you can wait it out, this used vehicle bubble will burst and you will be in a good position to buy used when the prices collapse.
  3. It is still a 15 year old piece of equipment. Of course i still have my 2001 2500HD, but i got it from the original owner in 06, so i know its history completely, someone else's vehicle/equipment is another story all together.
  4. Looks like you pulled some of the welded-in nuts out of the frame. I think your method is just fine, take it all off, straighten it all out however you can, press, hammer, vise, big adjustable wrench. Just be careful if you have to weld on the frame to re-attach the nuts.
  5. 16mpg? that is unbelievably fantastic for a 6.0 HD truck. my understanding is that the factory sensors were manufactured by DENSO for GM. I would look at the plugs. My 8.1L started running exactly like you describe and i had overlooked changing the plugs. It smoothed right out and ran normally after changing them. I did change the O2 sensors as a matter of maintenance.
  6. Sounds like he is doing brake work, but technically you don't even have to remove the tire to remove the axle.
  7. The axles are a piece of cake to remove. If you dont want gear oil all over the place, jack one side up while you remove that axle so the fluid does not run out.
  8. Still trying to figure this out. The emergency brake works perfectly, the pedal works perfectly with the exception that when i release it it does not return fully to the up position sufficiently to not actuate the emergency brake warning light. It returns maybe 90 percent to the top.
  9. Send him to a local car audio store, they can install an aftermarket remote start, or door locks or alarm which may have all three. One key fob does it all.
  10. No filter, just change the pump, sometimes the lines leak where they attach to the hydroboost.
  11. get a set of the appropriate weight rated 8 or 10" lift springs for the rear. Cranking up the torsion bars any more will result in a very bad ride that wears out parts quickly.
  12. I have a 2001 8.1L. My sending unit was acting up so I just replaced the pump and sending unit as an assembly. I went to napa and bought whatever they had. Its been in there since 2008 so far. As a note, Lift the bed instead of dropping the tank, its way easier.
  13. I went thru this 3 weeks ago with my 2001 2500HD with the 8.1L motor. I was convinced it was a collapsed lifter. It turned out to be the last 2 exhaust studs, closest to the fire wall, were less than finger tight. i replaced the factory multilayer steel gasket on one side and snugged up the bolts on the other side. problem solved. These motors (small and big block) are notorious for broken studs. Mine is the first instance i have seen where the studs actually loosened.
  14. My emergency brake pedal does not return fully to the top of its travel when released, it pops up most of the way, but you have to lift it the last inch manually or it turns on the emergency brake warning light. The emergency brake shoes are fully releasing, just not the pedal.
  15. The factory install has a high tone horn on one side and a low tone horn on the other side. I have often seen one side fail. I wonder if that is why your stock one sounded puny.
  16. I did exactly what you did, but also added the cognito motorsports pitman idler support bracket to eliminate any future problems and correct the factory issues. I also added their super strong tie rods. My truck is not lifted, and has stock size tires. http://www.cognitomotorsports.com/pitman-idler-support-kit.html
