  1. I agree that you'll never get 100% of the mist out of the system, but 15k intervals seem excessive to me. Yet another reason I'll never own a DI engine.
  2. Exact reasons I'll never buy a new diesel. More crap to leave you dead on the side of the road, and cost $$$$$$$$$.
  3. You'll always get soot in the exhaust. Carbon is a byproduct of combustion - no way around that, no matter how clean they make these engines run.
  4. Everything is junk today. You can't win! Best course of action is to buy something built 40 years ago, and install modern components on it yourself. Wish I had taken my own advice. I was an idiot, and bought an '07 Silverado back in '07. I've done just as much repair work to this thing as I have to cars 4 decades older!
  5. That's a good thing. I was supposed to be in FL by now with a '67 Belvedere. Never left, due to huge volumes of work that were dropped in my lap at the last minute. ATV's, generators, snowblowers, and leaf blowers are needed yesterday, lol. That time of year again! Shooting for next week ... and of course, I see gas prices headed upward again. Can't friggin win ...

  7. I had one nurse that left me black, blue and REAL sore from a blood sample. That normally never happens. Taking blood should be straightforward and relatively pain free. Not with this butcher ...

  10. That usually is from either disconnecting the battery, or clearing codes without the drive cycle completing. You'd need your own personal race track to get a drive cycle completed in an afternoon. Nice system GM porked us with there ... These friggin communist northeastern states have us over a barrel. Pay pay pay, for anything and everything ... and it's never enough! Then, they take that money and piss it away, and whatever's left they use to restrict our rights. Thank God for liquor ....

  13. That's what infuriates me about GM. The engine by itself is bulletproof, and the block & lower end is stronger than the old 350's of the day, but then they go and throw substandard lifters in ... and top it off with hit-or-miss crap electronics. Can't win today .... I love my engine by itself. Thing makes a ton of power and gets the same mileage as my '94 did -pretty impressive. But then they throw in an unreliable AFM that makes it burn oil. NONE of my cars or trucks in the past have EVER burned oil, even with close to 300k on the clock. Mine started burning at 50k ... My parent's could have bought 3 of their houses for what the average SUV sells for today too. For that kind of money, these things should have the reliability of military aircraft. God knows GM didn't pay $50k a piece to build these things ...

  16. I bet neither Lincoln you own ever had this problem! Total joke manufacturing is these days. It's not enough to spend $40 LARGE on a truck - they have to throw sh** parts in it that fail 5 years (or less) in. What a world ... If it were me, I would leave the thing alone, and drive it until it grenades - then, I'd throw in a long block built by a reputable engine builder. That engine will last just about forever. I wouldn't spend one more dime at GM for the same crap quality parts. Just my humble .02 ....
  17. I noticed the same on my fronts when I did my first brake job on mine years ago. The inner pad on mine was thinner than the outer - dangerously thin, so tried to swap their positions ... like you could do for years and years on prior model year trucks. Of course, GM had to put a big block of metal on in the inner pad, preventing it from being moved! Was so pissed. Ended up cutting the pad so I could swap positions, just to get by until I had the time to replace the pads. Boy, I'll tell ya ... I'm glad they went back to drums on the rear of mine. So much better than the "asshat" rotor/drum system for disc/ drum parking brakes. Up here in the northeast, those things are a CONSTANT pain in the ass. Always rusting out, seizing, and breaking, parking brake shoes delaminating, little retainer bolt busting off inside the axle assembly ... total horror show. With the drums, as long as you have the spring compressor for that large, single torsion spring, it's literally a 5 minute job per side to swap shoes.

  19. Yeah, ain't life in the Northeast fun? Welcome to my world - that's the crap I deal with day in and day out. It's a wonder I can still see, with all the rust that ends up under my safety glasses, and in my eyes. Gotta buy some riding goggles for working on these turds ...

  24. My '94 had 266k on it when I sold it. Was on it's second engine (probably blew a hose, or forgot to put oil in it and previous owner melted it down), but the ball joints and U-joints were OEM at 222k. Quiet cab, and got off the line faster than anything on the road. Never gave me grief. I've already spent more on repairs for my '07, and it's only at 81k .......... yikes!
