  1. If you would like, provide the last 8-digits of your VIN (PM if you prefer), and I can look into your case to see if any additional information is available. I look forward to your reply. Louis (assisting Tricia) GM Customer Service Last 8 are 7Z613606. Last consumption test was botched. Overfilled, which made it look like it wasn't using as much oil. I finally found the service number. It is 71-920-271-6566. Talked to Manny at ext. 22958. Thank you for providing your information. I have reviewed your case and it appears that the District Specialist was unable to contact you. I would be happy to open a new case for you. Please provide the following information via PM, so I can verify it with my records: your full name, address, phone number, best time frame to contact you, vehicle mileage, VIN and the name and city of your preferred dealer. Once I receive your information, I will set-up a new case and forward the case to a District Specialist who will contact you directly. I look forward to your reply. Louis (assisting Tricia) GM Customer Service I thank you for the effort and sent the PM as you requested. If you'll look at post # 74, you'll see that I never received a call from the regional specialist. I have had the same phone # for 16 yrs. +. I will look forward to the call. We'll see how this one goes. Not really looking forward to any more run around. Nearest dealership to me is a 70 mile round trip and 20 bucks in fuel. Real satisfaction would be to have the dealership order the parts below and set up an install appointment. deflector updated valve cover pistons, rings and lifters catalytic converters and 02 sensors

  3. Went back to my dealer to start another consumption test and was turned down. 5 yrs have passed and I'm out of warranty. Was told by GM if I did a test before the warranty was up, they would still cover it. Guess not. Have lost the service number they gave me. I work with the public, and a lot have asked, how I like my truck. I have seen most of them driving new Fords. This engine will come back and bite GM in the rear. Think the next Pres will bail them out again? I don't.
  4. 1) Why is there not a complete recall on this Issue based on the number of cases? 2) Has anyone checked into Class Action regarding this issue? 3) How About E.P.A study / Polution probability..? 4) What is this doing to my Catalytic Converters / O2 sensors? 1) It is evident that GM doesn't intend to recall vountarily. All of us could file a compaint to the NHTSA but I think it has to be a safety issue. I searched there and found only 1 complaint about the consumption issue. All that are using oil here should file a compaint, it might do something. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/ 2) Has been suggested in posts here but nothing has come of it. 3) This one may be the best option, since all this oil has to be causing pollution. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/recall.htm 4) I've asked the same question here, and at the dealer. No answer yet.
  5. Well its almost time for another oil change. Will be hittin 75k soon. I still can't get a good answer out of anyone as to whats happening to the oil? Since I bought the truck used, I have put 9 qts. of extra oil in 25k. Seems the truck is lagging a little in power now. Does the dealer have a way to check for diminished exhaust flow? I have always been told clogged cats will burn the valves.
  6. Have been following the results for this mod for some time now, to see the sucess rate. What I don't get is 4 different part #'s listed in the topic. 20787107, 20842731, 20829984, 20783877, 20756237 OP. Will they all work? I have Bose but no Nav. Which one do I choose?
  7. (GM already says using 1 quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles is normal.) They now say under 2 quarts per 3k is normal. It may not be a big issue to someone, who can afford to trade often, but it sure is for the rest of us. I am not a young man, and have owned more than Chevys in my life. None I've owned, have used this much oil. Ford has quirks too. Sticking spark plugs, that break off in the block, and costs up to $500 bucks for a plug change, if they break. But they did finally revise the heads, and fixed the problem, Chevy just keeps sticking these engines in with no revisions, like nothings wrong. As far as media attention, I doubt anyones going to report on this without proof, for fear of a lawsuit. Resale is the same, because buyers are unaware of the problem, until they purchase. There is nothing wrong with being a die hard Chevy fan, except when you ask you're fellow truck owner, are you using oil? and he denys it out of shame, that his 40k truck is drinking oil like a 250k clunker.
  8. I feel your pain. Thats why I haven't really bothered to go any further. All the band aid jobs they are doing and probably hoping for a give up, trade it in, or pass the 100k mark. 1 member gave some good advice to me months ago, but I didn't have the funds to trade it off.
  9. Thought I would post, since its been 9 mths. ago, that I asked Mod to help create this poll. Have been checking back and watching the pages build up. Glad to see, some have seen, head way into this problem, although I haven't. Currently using 2 1/2 qts. oil every 5000k. Have 71k on the clock now. 14k and I've spent aproximately 75 bucks extra in oil besides the changes. Thats 7 1/2 qts. going where? Have noticed a little decrease in power lately, just wondering if the cats are starting to plug or O2's fouling. All that oil has to be going somewhere, and I haven't noticed any smoke or leaks still. If any GM corporates are still lurking. Check my records. I sold the HHR and my Trailblazer. The Silvy would be gone, but I really like pulling into different dealerships, since I travel alot, and watch the faces of potential customers, as I put oil in my 4 yr old truck LOL.
  10. Useless would be very unfortunate for we, the minority, who are using oil. Saw a member had joined with the name GM Customer Service. Is that for real? Would hope that Chevy isn't influencing anything here. I am not against GM. Just wish they would step up to the plate. Recent GM products i've owned were an HHR and currently have a Trailblazer with 122k on the clock. Neither have used any oil and gave great service. A regional tech was supposed to contact me, after my first three phone conversations with customer service. I haver never heard from him yet. I have not lost my service request number if that means anything.
  11. The statistics are much less useful than that. As of now, ~33 people have replied in the thread, a few of which state specific oil consumption information. The poll shows 283 "votes", of which 22% are for 4.8 + 6.0 + 6.2 motors. It would be impossible to draw *any* conclusions from the data posted thus far. Was hoping this poll would produce some info. If it doesn't, at least there was an effort. But its not over. 283 votes are not many. Two of my neighbors have 5.3's with AFM. One is using and the other is not. Neither uses a computer. I told the one using, about the consumption test, and he has started his with the dealer. He or I would have never known, without this forum.
  12. Whats the mileage ?? Mileage as of yesterday evening when I just changed the oil is 41909. Should have waited on the oil change before the consumption test. They start the test with an oil change for documentation. Dealer let me bring my own oil since I had already bought it. Haven't been here for a while. Been workin all I can to make ends meet in this great economy were experiencing. Glad to see more coming forward with the issue. I'm still using oil, but it seems to have slowed a little since warm weather.
  13. 2007 NBS Silverado 1500 z71 with 5.3 AFM (22,000 miles) tow's hard through Cajon/Baker grade(pulling 7k), many mountain trips... NOT using/burning any oil(mobil 1 from the start, now switching to Amsoil) 5w30 always... Truck see's extended freeway towing w/rpms between 3-5k... FYI my Honda Prelude (H22 Vtec) uses at least 1qt per 3000k... Wanna know what Honda thinks? "normal" :-) Why post if you're not using oil, but please vote. The purpose of the poll is to get some data on who, and how many, are using oil and how much per 3k.
  14. 4.8. Dont think the 6.2 will because that is mated with the 6 speed (yours being an 07 I assume it is the 4 speed) One of the techs commented somewhere that the Express vans were non AFM 5.3 with 4 speed tranny. Question is would the swap be more than just the motor "ie" computer, wiring harness. Would be a good alternative if it would work.
  15. You never mentioned your mileage on the truck. Oil consumption usually starts at 30,000+ miles. Do the 6.0's have AFM?
  16. Thats what you need to do. Take it to the dealer and ask for a consumption test. If they refuse contact Chevy customer service.
  17. We have 17 yes votes but only 6 posting. If you voted yes please post with what is going on with your truck or SUV. What engine you have and if you have done a consumption test.
  18. This is what we're looking for. AFM engines that are using oil.
  19. After you vote, and you are using oil, please give some stats IE, what engine you have, iron block or aluminum, oil you're using, miles on your vehicle and if you have completed a consumption test. Thanks to the MOD for setting this up!! 07 Silvy running Mobil 1 full syn. Changing at 5k intervals. Iron block. 57k on the clock. No lifter noise on startup. No missfires. Runs strong. Have completed the consumption test using 1 3/4 qts. per 3000k.
