HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Need y'all's opinions. I'm thinking that this may be the best way to sit the lights in the fogs. This way they will be set level for the road since there is no right and left adjustments possible with these housings. Only up and down. Only thing that would be different from here to final product is that what is chrome would be black. And so would the plate backing the light. Tell me what y'all think! HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I am planning on documenting everything. I just got a thin sheet of aluminum the other day, I'm going to shape that to fit the hole left by the stock housing. But I'll document everything as it happens. I am currently waiting for the HIDs to come in so I can actually install the projectors since they are not waterproof unless you use an HID. My HIDs are coming from DDMtuning. Ordered April 6, shippered April 8th, should be here in the next week or 2, which is annoying with how impatient I can get when waiting for things like this haha. I will be sure to let you know how it goes. I'm working on mounting options until the HIDs come in and then final installation can occur. Can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 3,363 replies

What have you done to your K2 today?
Mike1220 replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Very nice! Good luck finding some! I looked for some for a similar purpose on my old Yukon but never found any that were meant as more than just interior accent lights. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Oh haha. At first I thought it may have been intentional how they were but seeing that the 2 sides didn't look the same I thought some may have been out already. If I had a silverado I would probably do the same except look for abunch of individual LEDs that I could place in the gap and put switchback LEDs in the gap in the headlights. However your set up looks great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Looks good other than the few lights being out. Like the grille insert a lot! Just out of curiosity, have you thought of putting an extended LED strip in the gap between the upper and lower grille? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What speed was your truck registering and how was the temp outside? Both make a difference. Only reason I'm asking is I want a lift but will probably go with a 4" and 33" tires. Don't want to knock my MPGs down too low though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I'll look into all this, I still have about a week, maybe a week and a half until my HIDs come in and until then I can't permanently mount the projectors since they aren't waterproof unless you have an HID installed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I'm outside workin on some mounting possibilities right now, thankfully it seems like it'll be easier than expected to mount these things, I'll take a look at the fuse box layout and see which it is. Here are some pictures I just took. I just pulled out a stock fog housing and wedged the projector in it's place I checked to see how well it matched the color of the DRLs and while it's not a perfect match, it's not extremely far off. These just have the slightest hint of blue compared to the DRLs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Looking at the manual right now, there are: drivers side fuse box behind dash: acc power outlet 2 -- fuse #1 Acc power outlets -- fuse 11 Acc power outlet 1/cig lighter -- fuse 101 Passenger side fuse box: Acc power outlet 3 -- fuse 1 Acc power outlet 4 -- fuse 2 Retained acc power / acc -- fuse 50 So do I use the one in the passenger side fuse box? (#50) since that is the retained acc power fuse? The only fuse in the engine compartment I saw was the "acc power module / traction power inverter module)" fuse #53. That to me sounds like it would be going to the 110V plug though- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Would you happen to know what wire I could tap into for that? The halo ring has a built in relay / capacitor so it won't overload and blow the ring. Only trouble for me is I'm still not as familiar with all the wiring like I was on my old car so not sure where to tap. Buddy of mine has a Tahoe that is the same body as my old truck and I was able to walk him through a few entire installations of different aftermarket parts over the phone. 2000-06 body style Yukon / Tahoe / suburban, I've taken that body apart so many times I could probably do it blindfolded and put it back together properly w/ the blindfold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Projector housings came in today! Now I just got to find out how I want to mount them and in about a week and a half when my HIDs from DDM come in, I can do the final install and wire everything up! Let me know what y'all think about these. Also what do y'all think I should wire the rings to? I got the rings for the main purpose of helping to fill in the 4" hole created for the stock fogs. I'm thinking of trying to wire them to the DRLs, or should I just wire them to the fogs (but before HID ballast) so that they only come on with the fog light itself Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 3,363 replies

Very nice! post up some pics and what the tire numbers are. Like 275/60/20. Those are the ones I am looking at or I will get 305/55/20 when my warranty runs out and put a 4" lit so that I wont have any tire rub and hopefully wont lose any turning ability! Or at least not too much because these trucks can turn extremely well for their size and I dont want to lose that -

I have the magnaflow catback also, as well as an AFE Power Air Intake and my truck is Leveled. I have the 5.3 L V8 CC SB w/20" rims 4x4 with street tires (need to change to A/T) and and I have averaged over the EPA rating on interstate at about 70-80 mph with outside temperatures of about 60-75 degrees (temp rose a quite a bit over my 4 hour ride) EPA -- 21mpg My best __ mile avg: 25 mile -- 23.2 mpg 50 mile -- 22.1 mpg Entire trip -- 21.5 mpg My guess is if you still have the stock rake then your mileage would be even better since the front end of the truck would be lower and therefore give you a bit better mileage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Alright cool thanks! Also what relay did you use? I'm not used to using relays so not sure which one to get or where I should get one from Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Damn. That was a fast reply. I barely got off the topic before I got a notification that you responded haha. What about while the wire was still under the hood. Where did you go in engine compartment? Im working on a retrofit for my fog lights right now so I can run a 55W HID without blinding other drivers and still put a monster amount of light on the road and after I'm done with that I'm either putting a bull bar that I will paint and mount a 20" bar on there or put a 30" behind the grille and forget the bull bar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Can you take some pictures during the day of where you ran the wiring. I'm looking at putting a 30" bar being my sierra grille and want to run the wires in a way that I am as least Invasive as possible Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Depends on bar size. If you use a 40" you can mount it to the outer wall that lines the grille Whereas if you use a shorter bar I know some people are mounting to the bottom of that grille liner I just spoke of Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No problem. Looks damn good and deserves to be said! If I had a K2 Chevy id probably copy you and paint the grille like yours haha. And nice choice for the bow tie. Can't wait to see how it turns out. And good luck with the caliper paint Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

For a 40K truck with some $4 plastidip (exaggeration of course), that looks damn good as it is. I wouldn't color the bow tie in the grille. Id leave that. It stands out now and looks great IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Looks great! Really liking the black side pillars. Looks much cleaner. And I agree with you on not being totally sold on the roof. I would suggest trying another piece on the hood. Such as the two elevated parts only or paint the depression in the middle of the hood to match the roof. I think that may make it look better if you plan to keep the roof painted. Good luck with your build! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Did you encounter the exact same obstacles? Such as stop signs/lights/etc, same speed and acceleration style? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
Mike1220 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Oh. Psh. I totally knew that. Also for anyone interested, I've decided I'm going to order those HID projectors for the fogs tonight. Along with two 9006 HID sets with everything (error decoders, harnesses, ballast mounts) from DDM. 5K is pure white and 4500K is a slight offset which better matches the LED strips on front of truck, correct moto? I'll start work on fabricating the faceplate to fill in the empty space around the projectors right when I get them and then install everything in 2-3 weeks when the HIDs come in.
