Shake or Vibration Issues
Jesse Davidson replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
After my final repair attempt, I took my truck to Sullivan tire to have get everything checked so i could have proof in arbitration. I also had them rotate the tires to test that exact thing. I can tell you if they are balanced properly and the RFB numbers are about equal, you won't notice much if any difference. ***EDIT*** if your tires are not truely round, and they have a hop to them, rotating them may make a difference, as would if the rim isn't round -

I agree that I likely wouldn't lose as much, should the unspeakable happen, but that being said. from all of the research I've done, the Denali seems to have the least number of reported vibration issues..... so pairing that with the 6.2L would be the least likely to vibrate.... and it would be work a lot more than the SLT just because it is the Denali. -

Yea, thats kinda how I'm looking at it. Either way, I'm still terrified of getting another vibrating truck. theres a thought lol. If they don't put it into production pretty quick I'll just file lemon law. Unfortunately there is no law requiring anything to be reported. Anything you see on a carfax or any other report is what was submitted voluntarily by the shop. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to go this route.... maybe a 2017 6.2 Denali won't have any issues .... it'l cost me a bunch of money, itll cost less than what I'd lose trading mine in now though.... or I could get a 2017 SLT fully Loaded and pay nothing.... what to do, what to do -

No, I'm scared to death of it. but at the same point, there is no guarantee in Lemon Law, even though I have enough information that should basically guarantee it, and if I try to get rid of my truck on my own, I'm out a sh*t ton..... so IDK what to do -

can you post the actual link, those wont work Toyota (specifically Tundra) is far more American than GM, as FogDucker says below. I believe the Tundra Crew Cabs are even higher than 60% American though. I agree with Severado, bring it back and say you changed your mind. get rid of that POS I believe the crew cabs have even more American Parts and Assembly Drive it into a ditch and have your insurance buy you something that actually works lol... seriously though, Pinion angle has been brought up alot, I don't remember anything specific about results from messing with it though. -

Ok, so as promised I went to a local tire shop (anyone in the northeast you probably know Sullivan Tire) I didn't have them change any balancing or anything. I just merely wanted confirmation that the tires & rims are true and in good standing. heres the results : Tire Location: inner weight reading outer weight reading RFB number LF needs another 1/4 oz perfect 23 lbs LR perfect perfect 25 lbs RF needs another 3/4 oz perfect 25 lbs RR needs another 1/2 oz perfect 21 lbs By both GM and Sullivan Tire standards these tires meet spec. although a 25lb rfb number is the upper limit for GM, industry standard is 30lb. Because the truck still vibrates, we now have definitive proof it is not related to the tires, although properly balanced and lower rfb numbers do help to reduce it. One of the guys I spoke with at Sullivan Tire knows quite a bit about the Vibration issue, saying that they have a few sources within GM itself, and the Engineers there really have no idea why the trucks are doing it, and that they know its a big issue.... just some food for thought. -

I just got back from a Mechanic near my house, 2 tire shops, and a performance shop. I discussed this all with them, and showed them the 5 &1/4 oz of weight. All of them agreed that that much weight on one spot is way too much. I told them that I have also tested my 18" rims & tires and still have a vibration with them on. All 4 shops based on that said they think it it is in the drivetrain specifically referring to the axles, drive shaft, hubs or it could possibly in the suspension. Regardless that kind of weight is just masking the issue, and would mean that everytime i get an oil change and have teh tires rotated, they would have to perfectly rebalanced to continue to mask the real issue. 2 shops recommended that I rotate the front and rear rims to test the theory. If the vibration stays reduced it could be a bad rim (unlikely) if not the weight just masks the real problem. I have also set up an appointment to have the rims and tires checked at a shop that I trust, I'm not going to have them rebalanced there because I dont want it to screw anything up for arbitration, but I am going to get them checked. yes people have had their rear ends rebuilt and it doesn't help. I have had lawfirms who have investigated the matter tell me that it is the design of these trucks and that all the mounts on the truck are why we all feel the vibration. It is merely a design flaw that GM refuses to fix. -

hahaha I know right. I will say the vibration is greatly reduced, still felt slightly, gets worse when on incline or declines and going around corners. The critical points of the vibration have changed too, the speeds dropped from 74 - 78 to 70-76 and 46 to 43. The change of the tires and weighting changed the critical speeds... but that weighting is just absurd. I'm going to go to some repair and tire shops and see if I can get a letter saying that it is beyond what is reasonable and use that in arbitration as well. -

So I was getting in my truck yesterday, and something caught my eye in the front driver rim. I check it out and look how much weight they put on it,I've never seen this much, its insane. They f*cking doubled it up on the same spot. -

Someone tried fox and they say it really helped theirs, but stil shook a little I agree 10x is too many. It's not the tires. how many miles are on the truck, and when did you first complain of the shaking? I agree -

I have Factory 18's with Wrangler SR-A's and Factory 22's Bridgestone Dueller A/T RH-S's both have been replaced with the same tire, still vibrates -

I agree with the Service Manager not being to read a Pico thing, but the software GM uses only takes a 30s snapshot of where they claim the vibration is the worst, so according to them, its the worst at that speed and within their made up spec. Are you trying to kill me? Gm uses millig (also known as mGal) not g, something there is odd. you are also supposed to keep the truck in 2wd, not auto. I don't know why they bother having that as an option, driving in auto is bad for the truck. -

Someone already posted something similar to this, but I am trying to find industrial standards on vibration to counter what appears to be a made up spec by GM and came across this. https://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/phys_agents/vibration/vibration_measure.html this is from the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety and specifically says that you should reduce vibration because of "ill health effects" yes, i printed this to my arbitration -

based upon that, your truck is within GM's made up spec of 22mg. Your largest vibration is a T1, which is something on the truck that rotates at driving speed, ie tires, rims, rotors etc. You will still feel the vibration with a pico scope reading in the teens, mine was 25 reduced to 16, then it went back up, and is currently low. but they didnt give me the reading. I still have a very very slight vibration, enough that I notice it. I would still argue with GM about it saying that any vibration is unacceptable. Be aware. that reading is only a 30s snapshot of the entire drive. they don't give the reading for the entire drive, so we could also possibly argue that we have no way to prove that those readings are truely the worst. hope this helps -

They replaced all of my tires last time (final repair attempt) last week, vibration was greatly reduced, but still slightly present, I have noticed that the critical frequencies have changed though, the speed that the resonance hits is now lower than it used to be 70-72 instead of 74-76, same with the 43-46mph one, its not 40-44mph. -

Be aware, I've had mine balanced, they 2 weeks later they were all way out of balance, and the RFB numbers jumped dramatically... like 2 to 35 dramatically -

Be aware, the 2016's do have the issue, the 2017's will also likely have the issue, I suspect that there wont be any change until the next redesign which is supposed to be for the Model Year 2018. The HD trucks do have the potential to have the issue, but it is no where near as common as the 1500. there is actually a thread on here dedicated to it. I'll edit this post shortly and add the link for you. **EDIT** http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/174323-2015-silverado-lt-vibration/page-4 last post is from October, so I seems to have died down, not that it was all that big to begin with in the HD trucks. Ive driven both the 2500 and the F-250, IMHO the F-250 rides much much better, if you care about that. **EDIT 2** http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/186425-2015-chevy-2500hd-drivetrain-vibration/ just came across another HD truck Vibration thread
