  1. Here's my .02 and I'm certainly not pi$$ed because as with everything I always consider the source. My '16 had no center console and no subwoofer and I'll concede that absent one, adding it in that instance even in a poor location may enhance bass response. And size does matter in one particular area where I have no problem with large is better, but not necessarily in a speaker. What matters in a speaker is cone construction material, shape, metal alloy and Gauss of magnet, construction of and spacing of field coil windings and placement in cone driver, etc. However, proper placement is the most important and Trumps all of them, it can make a good speaker sound adequate and a great speaker sound not so, cannot be done satisfactorily in a vehicle with space, size and location limitations and for certain not by just shoving it in an empty spot under a seat because that is the only place in the cabin it will fit. Many believe think they can achieve true quality sound by adding a piece of crap placed haphazardly in a system that already has the existing drivers built into convenient places in a tin can rather than locating where it can replicate true dynamic sound. Just make it louder and thumpy especially when playing modern $hit instead of classical music where one can discriminate the full dynamic range; in some peoples minds that equates to better.....OK for them.....same for my dog Max who can't tell the difference in quality or price and will readily enjoy whatever is in his dish, but he does prefer hot dogs to sirloin. I've been running Bose 901s on my main system since 1976 and the largest speaker in them is 4" with poly cones. Only difference is that the newer ones cost around $2200. pair compared to the $1000. I paid at the time and mine have real walnut veneer instead of a crap modern finish. Placement of these speakers was always determined by the size and shape of the room in my current house, sometimes on their custom stands, sometimes suspended from the ceiling, sometimes pointing towards a corner, sometimes along a wall based upon the echo qualities of the room. Proper placement and balance obtained with the receiver's audio feedback pickup mic placed at the seating position of the listener. I've gone through dozens of receivers from the infancy of HiFi and the first build it yourself puple glowing output tubes monoural Dynakit, later upgraded when stereo was finally broadcast to Fishers to Sonys to Onkyos and Marantz', even had one of the first subwoofers that was built into a monster sized coffee table. My secondary system in the other family room uses top of the line at the time US made KLH 1s driven by a Marantz receiver......which cabinets in addition to separate tweeter and midrange employs two 14" for the low end those $1200 speakers can't hold a candle to the base response Bose 901's 4 inchers with their direct reflecting cabinet and multiple itsy bitsy 4" ers which have a throw distance like the pistons in a 327 even with the subwoofer turned off. Placement of a subwoofer is not normally critical for true sound reproduction, except perhaps when it is mounted under someones a$$ because that's the only place were it will fit! You find that stuff promoted in a car accessory catalogs rather than audiophile geared magazines. And like I said a subwoofer under a seat is not for me, Max lies in the back and I'm in no mood for him to give his opinion by messing up my leather seats. Granted the base Bose system is not an audiophile's delight....that listening is meant for a large anechoic room with a balanced system sitting in a leather recliner......not jammed into a tin can with cheap seating, road noise and hard reflective surfaces.....but adding crap to crap doesn't make it sound that much better.
  2. Mine never had it, still doesn't have it, no folding mirrors and all windows down on unlock active as it is on the old '16 that never had it in settings or the Avalanches which never had it in their settings. Only problem before was the Climate Off bug and now that is gone with the Nav upgrade. The only advantage with referenced update is now you can turn the windows down feature off which is what it does normally if you don't keep the unlock button depressed. Now if they come out with an all windows up on holding lock button - that would be an improvement.
  3. If you have the Bose system and a full console you have a subwoofer and don't need another one. I've never seen more than one subwoofer output on any top of the line receiver. Used the OEM storage compartment from the '16 in my '19. Dedicated tray for the '19 requires a cutout area for the the relocated jack destroying the waterproof integrity of the tray. No problem...removed the jack and bolted into in the old tray, then secured the old tray using the same mounts which similarly fit the seat mounts in the '19........with jack removed fit like a glove using the existing hardware.
  4. .02 "I just do 'em; I can't explain 'em" seems to fit best. Just guessing but could be the latest build number for any particular vehicle is VIN specific for all features in the vehicle plus any added accessories or upgrades performed Could be a dealer forced update to the highest rev instead of contacting GM and verifying/getting the latest rev. for that particular VIN could actually screw up something else. I was there during part of the Nav install for IOS to IOT capability and the tech had to call in with the VIN, the part number and activation code for the SD card containing the maps, and GM provided the specific version of software for the update. Once completed , my former software version went from a v805 to v509. Later, I tried the update procedure and it came back that I had the latest update. Running v509 I have all the screens and choices that I had when v805 and all the hardware including the rear camera in Drive continue to operate as before. In addition now the top bar in the 4" screen turns the color matching the icon surround in the 8" screen. One function missing from the original software which I guessed the the vehicle had from my old Silvy was all windows down on holding unlock....still missing in the new rev and still operational. Every feature and screen in the v805 down to separate front and rear auto defog is present in the V509, only differences being the additional screens for turning on speed limit sign in options and the additional Nav specific screens. Even the "Climate Off" bug has disappeared. Point being v509 must be the latest rev listed in the GM database for my particular vehicle as presently equipped with no further updates available and my former v805 would likely be a downgrade and if dealer tried to manually force an install to the highest generic number rev. to my upgraded OIS it would screw it up and I'd probably lose the Nav screens/capability. Turned off my auto update with no further plans to do so.... everything currently works the way it is supposed to.......firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
  5. Probably not as good as the one in the models with the full Bose system. Not likely this is meant to replace an existing Bose subwoofer which is located in the bucket seat version with front console extending to the dash. This is intended for Bose systems lacking a subwoofer, which is the less expensive $500. Bose system option installed in the armrest/center bench seat models. No center console for mounting the subwoofer so it goes under the rear seats where it can give rear passengers the urge to take a pi$$.....which is all the excuse Max would need to bark and let one loose.
  6. Could be with the Nav upgrade for Infotainment 3 the Silv'y can longer run on the v805 software or because it is a IOS head instead of a native IOT it has to run on v509 of the Denali software which might use less memory. I was there for some of the install, tech registered the chip and VIN number, GM furnished the latest software compatible with the '19 Nav upgrade dedicated for my VIN. Troublesome Climate Off disappeared and more choice screens/colors added in the DIC, eg. Speed Sign in main cluster Either way, I tried to update after the install it said the v509 was the latest update. I'm going to leave it alone as long as everything is working fine.
  7. After upgrading the IOS system to add Navigation now showing a build number not an update number for the software.....it's using version v509 which appears to be the latest version for the Denali's factory IOT with Nav. Instructions and screens in the '19 Infotainment manual match what is in the upgrade. Had to reload from defaults, but everything seems to be running OK right down to hands free operation of apps including the Nav. One of the menus permits ignoring Auto Android when plugged in favor or Bluetooth for the phone and flash drives in the USB for audio. Took apart an inductive charge and glued tro the underside of the console add in tray and plugged into USB port....using inductive charging no need to ever plug in the cell phone again. Different symbol than the OnStar Nav and screens on the 4" display now color coded to the color surrounds of the touch screen icons.
  8. Knife blade under the gold portion and pry off.....will expose the holes with the locking pins, screwdriver in hole to release (4) tabs...should know the locations from the replacemetn bowtie.....no damage to grille only gold and chrome backing plate, discard.....pop in new black bowtie. Do you really want to remove the shroud and probably break a push pin or two then remove bolts.....and the pull real hard on the grille to release the clips.....forget a bolt or pull too hard and then you'll need a new grille?
  9. Installed today and operational. Not the traditional OEM maps but Telenav same as used by Onstar......not as colorful as the HMI module driven OEMs but better than Google maps under Auto Android. Otherwise behaves exactly like the OEM Nav in my Traverse.......speed sign is active next to the vehicle speed, just contains the speed limit number in MPH and not the Speed Limit wording like the Traverse. Had to re-register with OnStar and redo the Bluetooth for the cell phones. Started using the OnStar connection which I do not want to pay for after the free three month trial...so I shut off OnStar under apps and setup the Nav not to download traffic reports or accidents via OnStar, and Nav systems and speed limit figures still worked off the maps in the SD card. Software rev info lists it as v.905 and lists Denali in the a referenced access number.
  10. Had the Nav upgrade installed today updating the IOS to IOT and the new update version is v905 with a footer that it is a Denali number. Appeared to be using OnStar, probably for the traffic and accident updates.....Stopped OnStar under Applications Running and the maps and directions still worked and had to redo the Bluetooth and make OnStar secondary for making calls. The speed limit sign next to the speed in the main cluster was working, but slightly different, just the number for the speed limit minus the words like in the Traverse. Display is not as colorful as the older OEMs using the HMI module, but still a lot better than the Google maps under Auto Android. Even with the Nav chewing up 267 Mb of memory, still room to add more apps. Seems to have corrected the Climate Off bug.
  11. Scheduled for the Nav upgrade tomorrow which also upgrades IOS to IOT capability and I should get the posted speed limit sign which I miss from the Traverse. Just checked with the service people and it will also install the latest upgrade.....maybe even fix the "Climate Off" bug. I had enrolled in the GM rewards program and never received points for the Silverado purchase....called and they boosted 25000 points so redeemed for $100 off the Nav upgrade.
  12. My 22" were a dealer installed option and required a reflash of the ECU to maintain speedometer/odometer accuracy......now dead on using mile markers for a reference.
  13. '19 Upgrade kit specifically mentions IOS radio which is in the Convenience II pack option 8" HD color touchscreen with voice recognition and SD card reader, stock (IOR) radio uses different hardware other than the SD card reader, don't believe it has voice recognition for hands free command of audio controls, phone system, climate controls and upgrade to Nav voice commands.
  14. Dealer confirmed appointment and Parts Department punched in my VIN and confirmed it is compatible with my radio head . Thanks to all for the info, especially ReeltoReel for the part number which dealer could not locate, but when part number was pouched in confirmed compatible with my VIN. I also like the speed sign in the main cluster.....pulls the speed limits and locations off the Nav maps.......have it in my Traverse with the factory Nav, but no active 4 g subscription which is likely used only for updates............proof is that it is still reading the recently changed old location for speed changeover and older speed limits on Rte 70 heading toward Baltimore.
  15. Feeling good. Total $495 + tax out the door....no matter how long it takes to program, exactly what the factory option cost which I would have taken had they offered it.
  16. Thanks......on my way to the dealer to confirm labnor charge and capability for flashing
  17. Bingo! What you said about the Avalanche rings true.....had 3 of them and there isn't any Silverado that can compare with their rear coil spring suspension. Aside from lack of coil springs a Silverados "bouncy" ride over bumps is due to gravity. Put the Silverado, which base is also lighter than an Avalanche, on a 400 lb diet and it rebounds higher when it hits a bump or rough highway with weatherstrips. Lightweight beds and 4 cyl engines make for a bigger bounce. First week I was disappointed with the rougher ride of the '19 RST with 285 R22 50s. Reducing the over inflation to proper 35 psi helped a bit and tires make it corner like a cat with no rear end breakaway but there was definitely more rear axle bounce than my '16 Z71. Now the it rides smooth at all speeds because I figured out what my problem was. My '16 with sports bar and rubber bed mat also had two Swingaway saddle bags mounted in the bed which I removed intending to place in the '19 along with the 80 - 100 lb rubber bed mat. The mat fit was 99% and required only a small piece to be trimmed, but the Swingaways were a no go.......old mounts would have blocked bed side lighting and intruded into the bed area, so they sat in my garage for over a week waiting to be unloaded. I had forgotten that there was at least 100 lbs of crap, trailer hitches, compressor pumps, etc in each one.....so much that the cases were cracking........threw them out and loaded the contents into milk crates which now fit nicely behind the wheel wells in the wider bed. Seems the 200 lbs behind the wheels (and threw in a floor jack for good measure) did it ....that combined with the existing 100 lbs for the sports bar and tonneau cover over the front and top of the bed did the trick, now the rear not only grabs tight in turns, but no more rear axle hops on bumps. And the ride is now as good, probably better, than the '16. Might screw up mileage a bit but I'll gladly sacrifice gasoline for comfort ......a better dead weight approach than sticking relatives in the rear seat. Going to throw in the Bielsteins for good measure when they come out.
  18. Accessory catalog for the '20 just added a Nav upgrade for existing hubs. Have to check with the dealer if it is backward compatible with the '19s with 8" screen radio. Looks like a simple SD card that plugs into the existing SD slot on the USB hub under the lid in the center console. Currently using the SD slot for music but could easily transfer it to a flash drive and use the SD slot for the maps. If compatible likely also requires a dealer programming for an hour labor. Only thing that concerns me is the active subscription note.....a deal breaker if I have to pay for 4g to make the system work, but no problem if only subscription is necessary for updates and current traffic info. Anyone familiar with how this operates? https://accessories.gm.com/applevalleychevy/product/2020/Chevrolet/Silverado 1500/navigation-system-conversion-kit-84489271?bac=113704&categoryId=12001
  19. Not an intentional feature: Found one quirk in the software programming. If you rotate a temp button immediately after the Start is pressed while the gauges are cycling full scale, the HVAC will respond as set, but any push of any HVAC button brings up a message on the radio screen saying CLIMATE OFF instead of a graphic representation of the controls even though all the controls and vents are operating properly. Won't correct until a full shutdown and restart waiting until modules reboot in before using HVAC controls.
  20. Just doesn't sound normal. On AUTO when calling for A/C with the cabin temp higher 80% of flow comes from the upper vents with 20% on the floor; when on Heat and cabin temperature lower 70% floor, 20% upper vents and 10% defroster vents; when set A/C or Heat is at cabin temperature the fan slows to a crawl at from all vents. One or more vents will work in Manual depending upon which button(s) are pushed. Three zone Traverse and Two zone Malibu automatic HVACs work the same way. You may still have two zones on Manual but they are both pushing air at the same velocity, AUTO bleeds air from multiple doors depending upon zone.. When set temps differ and passenger temp, e.g.70 deg cabin is satisfied, passenger air flow settles to a crawl while drivers set to 60 deg continues to blow at full force out of driver's vents.
  21. My mileage was exactly the same after I modiifed the exhaust.
  22. Didn't buy a blown out RST so I could play with a manual HVAC, mine works just fine - besides keeps the wife off my a$$ - she can keep her vents blowing warmer while I go Eskimo.
  23. If you insist on leaving an animal in an unattended vehicle with the A/C for any length of time - A responsible thing to do is buy a thermometer with a remote sending unit ....sending unit in the car and receiver with you in the restaurant and periodically monitor the interior temperature. Cheap enough around $20-$30, even have waterproof models like the one I keep in my outdoor hot tub in case the GFI trips. Not only good for the animal in case of a engine stall or A/C crap out, but a good CYA in case some self appointed vigilante busybody decides to call the police.
  24. Leave wife at home, open door, put on seat belt, push start button to fire up the 5.3/8 spd., push start/stop button, rotate control to sport and ready to rock and roll on back roads w/hairpin turns on 285 R22 50's.
  25. And just like my '16, it does on the '19 also if the engine is running and the driver's door is opened.
