hey Phil which "blue" of mine are you referring too?? control buttons? overhead lights? footwell lights? here's a better image of the hvac/radio controls (bahahahaha... let me rephrase that ... better if the original pics in photobucket showed up) the blue gel i used is a little darker than the stock chevy blue, but honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. i lightened this pic a bit to bring up the contrast between the stock and added blue let me know if you want more/specific pics and i'll get them this evening once the sun goes down

i keep a couple of loonies ($1 coin) in there so i have a coin for the buggy when i go to the grocery store

hey Fix29 yea - i still have all the pics - they just don't show up becuz photobucket wants a crap load of $ to allow pics to show up on forums. i did inquire a while ago about being able to go and edit my old posts to add in the pics but never heard back from anyone from the forum (i'll likely just end up creating a new build thread when i have time) are there any pics in particular you are looking for?? if you want, fire me a pm with links to the posts you are interested in that are missing pics and i'll see what i can do. chris

thanks Penguin regarding volbeat - absolutely one of my favourite bands. i was so pumped when they were touring with metallica, i was going to head to the coast to catch the concert... then i noticed that for whatever reason, they didn't do the western canada gigs - i was so bummed! i didn't end up going. i like metallica, i LOVE volbeat! ha! ha! -

hey lapoolboy why don't you just change out the surface mount LEDs on your dash cluster - it's not hard. i did that on mine and the results were fantastic.... and i had zero soldering experience before attempting this (i actually had to go buy a soldering iron/gun! ha!) here is my stock dash... added an inlay from usspeedo.com..... pulled the dash cluster and changed surface mount LEDs to blue... and the final product.... i absolutely love the dash - i think it looks really good the surface mount LEDs were from oznium.com.... https://www.oznium.com/plcc-2 **order some extra... i'm glad i did (like i said earlier... i had never done anything like this before but i got the hang of it pretty quick!) -
do you have any way of fishing a magnet down the vent and hoping the coin 'sticks'? i've got some "rare earth magnets" and man those suckers are strong! i figured before i posted this that i actually try this with some coins... all my canadian quarters and dimes worked, 1 nickle did and one nickle didn't. i only had 1 american coin kicking around - a nickle and it did not

@jrob56 i'm not sure of the link for the spider tail lights in gruve's post, but i have a very similar tail light from recon - very happy with it https://www.gorecon.com/product/670/264238BK-SMOKED-LED-Tail-Lights-14-17-Chevy-Silverado-15-17-GMC-Sierra-Dually -

thanks the curve... honestly, i think i used the lid of a paint can and it was close enough! ha! ha! (it might have been a 5 gal pail? i can't remember. i've been using the 2x8 for a while now and only this past weekend did i have the time to do all the cutouts) -

so i had an idea a while ago... i have been using a 2x8 in the back of my truck as a 'divider' (just sliding it into the little groves on each side of the box). it worked great but i wanted to do something a little 'more'. i came up with 2 layouts that i liked - i ended up going with the bottom one: one of the pieces of equipment i have with my business is a laser cutter, so using taped together file folders i created the template.... put the template on the 2x8.... and transferred all the 'cut outs' i wanted to use a router, but to make life a little easier, i drilled out as much as i could first.... once the drilling was done i screwed plastic jigs to the 2x8 (i made the jigs with the laser cutter, just 1/8" plastic. my thinking was that the little wheel on the top of the router bit would just follow the cut out in the plastic.) it worked great! then use wood filler on all the screw holes... then sand it and get ready to paint.... and here it is... overall i'm really happy with it. the only thing i need to do is go get another can of flat black. i grabbed a can of what i thought was flat but ended up being semi gloss! ha! oh well, will add the final flat coat in the next couple days after i can get to a hardware store if anyone else wants to try the same thing i'll see if i can attach the file i used with my laser cutter... silverado box divider.ai ^^maybe it worked?? it's just an ai file - nothing special. if the above file didn't upload properly and you'd like to try this just fire me a private message with your email address and i'll send the file. the one thing i'd still like to add is a piece of stainless steel to the back side, but just behind the chevy logo - i think that would look sweet. i just need to get to a local metal shop -

i got my vinyl from a local shop and cut it myself, but i know a number of guys have ordered precut bowties off of amazon/ebay and have been very happy with the results - maybe try that route -

when i did my steering wheel i first tried plastidip but wasn't happy, so i went the vinyl route and it looks great -
hey Jmiller i posted this in the 'switch' thread... yea - i did that myself... only problem with my build thread is that photobucket now wants some ridiculous $$ so the pics show up on forums, so pretty much all the photos are gone. i did ask a few times on fsc (thru the mods) if there was a way to go back and edit old posts (so i could add pics back into the posts) but never heard back i'll likely just start a new build thread when i have some time i believe it was this stuff here... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1-5M-Flash-Flexible-Neon-LED-Light-Glow-EL-Strip-Tube-Wire-Rope-Car-Party-LigBE/122436633451?var=422901943456&hash=item1c81cac36b:g:lMUAAOSw-K9ZL82t i think i got 2 of them, in case i screwed the first one up i used 2 layers of plastic. the bottom layer fit perfectly inside the bottom of the cup holder, the top layer was 2mm smaller all around. epoxied the 2 layers together then siliconed the glow strip to the 'lip' (becuz the top piece is a little smaller). all the wiring stuff is located underneath the cupholder

i'm pretty sure the LEDs are already blue or red... below i've added circles to the LEDs that i think are the lights that give the illumination you're talking about. the light 'travels' thru an opaque plastic - you can see some of these plastic 'rings' that are from the menu and power/volume knobs in the second pic. if you can change these LEDs it would likely do the change you want. sorry i'm kinda vague on this - i did all this last summer (so over a year ago now) and it's just tough to remember -

ok - those are 'easy' to change... i covered the white LEDs with blue lighting 'gels' i "blued" out all of the white LEDs. eventually i'd like to replace all the white LEDs with blue LEDS, but for now, the blue gels are doing a great job.... the final 3 pics show a before/after of the entertainment controls with the LEDs covered in the blue gel (filament) - but it's the same idea with the hvac controls. i found it was easier with the knobs to put the gel inside the knob as opposed to covering the LED - i just use double sided clear tape to hold the gel in place -

wouldn't you just have to change the surface mount LEDs on the dash? it's soooooo simple. i did it to my 14 (red to blue) and it looks so much better. my experience doing this kind of thing can best be summed up with this statement... i had to go buy a soldering gun to do this... never done anything like it before. i got my LEDs from oznium.com first 2 pics are stock chevy dash, with dash overlays added from http://www.newtruckstuff.com/US-SPEEDO-CUSTOM-TIMELESS-EDITION-STAINLESS-STEEL-GAGUE-FACE-SPEEDOMETER-KIT-BLUE/productinfo/TMGM31B/# 3rd pic = removing the first red LED from dash 4th pic = testing the first blue LED 5th & 6th pic = blue LEDs installed -
sooooo sweet!!!! looks great!!

the gels are what i also used to colour my cabin lights... but i used blue they work great and i still get a lot of light in the cab at night... it's not as bright as white (of course), but i can still see lots. (and if i'm having an issue seeing i've got a little flashlight in the center console) IMG_6291 by bc-chris, on Flickr">http://IMG_6291 by bc-chris, on Flickr >IMG_6315 by bc-chris, on Flickr">http://IMG_6315 by bc-chris, on Flickr

is it that it's not working or is it that in the last week they've decided to change things so if you want to have your pics displayed on a forum you have to now pay? they want me to pay $400/year so my pics to show up on this forum - ha! nope! -
didn't someone put a storage box on the battery tray?

hey Ravenkeeper for you questions... 1 - plastidip clumpy - sounds like a bad/clogged nozzle. whenever i've used it it always sprays really nice and even (like any normal rattle can) 2 - i'll leave that to Gamboa 3 - for my cup holder lighting i got some glow wire out of china - super inexpensive, it just takes a while to get to you. there is a spot you can tie into under the dash that gets power when the truck is on and only loses power once the driver's door is open. watch this video and at a little after 5 minutes the guy shows where you can get power.... for a ground, just find a bolt that goes to metal (i hooked on to one by the gas/brake pedals) your idea for floor lighting... what i would do is do 2 separate systems. for the low intensity, just tie into the above mentioned power source and maybe put your LEDs on a dimmer. then have another set of lights tied into your overhead lights that will only be on when your doors are open (and of course with no dimmer). i'm not sure if it's possible to only use one set of lights with 2 different power sources? with drilling out the bowtie - that is what i have heard, but i plasti dipped mine so i can't say for sure -

ha... yea.. my 'little scanner' is still there - i love that thing... and it works great! ok - i'll start with where i got my power for the lights. watch this video and at a little after 5 minutes the guy shows where you can get power.... for a ground, just find a bolt that goes to metal (i hooked on to one by the gas/brake pedals) i removed the two side panels from the center console - they come off really easy i ran the wire from the power source, over the the gas/brake pedals and then to the front of the center console where i used a quick spice connector from oznium.com... https://www.oznium.com/quick-wire-splice-connector to send power to all the lights. if you look at the pic below, the side panel has been removed and you can see the lovely mess of wires at the bottom front of the center console. the yellow/black wires were for the lighting i added. the white wire was for a dimmer switch so i could turn down the brightness of the LEDs. the red and black wires are the scanner install for the lights inside the cubby, i used these... https://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon if you notice on the pics from oznium the lights come with pre-attached power wires, so you can plug/unplug them. i attached my wires to the one end of the provided plugs and fed it under center console and then pulled it out from under the console. you can see the black end sticking out just below where one of the bottom clips go into the bottom of the center console in the above pic (lower right hand part of the pic). i used the 3m tape that was on the back of the LED strip to attach them to the inside of the side panel (that is removed in the above pic). i didn't want to stick the LED strip on the bottom of the console (facing up) as i figured it could be really annoying and bright at night and it could get damaged when i put stuff in the cubby. on the inside of the part that is removed (same part i stuck the LED strip to) at the bottom there is a kind of a honeycomb pattern. i used a utility knife to cut a bit of it away so my connecting wire wouldn't get bent/damaged when reinstalling the panel. i just taped the wire in place once i was happy with how it was sitting. get the panel close for reinstalling, plug the power supply into the LED strip and then reattach the side panel. if any wires sneak out from under the center console just push them back under i hope this all makes sense. if it doesn't i can take some pics tomorrow morning for you
