What have you done to your K2 today?
Penguin VII replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
it's a 2019 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 cummins. It's got basically every option except the sunroof. One of my favorite things is that both front windows have auto up/down. Not sure why they all don't Toyota seems to do all of them but still a huge step up from just driver. -

Well I'll test my luck I guess since I already traded mine and signed papers. I do agree though, everything nowadays seems designed for the dump. -

Well, sort of "did" something to my K2. Traded her in for a new cummins powered Ram 2500. I've wanted a diesel truck for forever, always loved the sound of them and seeing them tow ****** as a kid. I should have gone with a 2500 duramax when I bought mine but I let the money get to me and didn't buy it, regret that now as it's ending up costing me a lot more but couldn't be happier. Drove the GMC and was all around pretty impressed but a few things steered me away: the L5P, while an awesome engine from all accounts is super locked down and it's encryption is so challenging to break that unless someone finds some crazy backdoor I expect it to cost a huge amount of money to do any meaningful tuning on them. For whatever reason chevy still designs their wheel wells in an odd way and you can't get too much larger a tire without jacking it to the sky. I don't be lifting my new truck 6" nor do I want to, but I want a bit of a larger tire for the look, performance, protection and comfort of more tire sidewall. Wanted to not go back to IFS. While they do ride nicer than a solid front axel I wanted a bit more in durability for the larger tires I planned to run. Even just running the 35s and 20s on my 1500 I could tell the ball joints were going pretty fast. I understand there was a price to play but since I knew I would be doing that from the start, and not minding if it rode a bit more like a truck, I felt it was a "compromise" I was willing to make. the GMC has a good look but sort of a lot going on. There are a lot of small accent pieces, trim, angles, etc. There is just a lot. I think the Chevy is dog ****** ugly (What happened! How did we go from the squarebody to this?) so it was really Ford or Ram from the looks dept. I like the look of the Ford enough but I could see the interior becoming dated quick and the quality of the plastics just didn't seem as nice as Ram/GM. The Ram was sort of the all around package for me. I love how it looks sort of reminiscent of a big rig with the hood that scallops down to lights. The side is clean and while I dislike that you can't easily strip off the ram logo I like the look enough that it doesn't bother me. The 2500 diesel is vastly overkill for me, and for what I plan to buy for a travel trailer in the near future. Time will tell if the horror stories I hear about FCAs electrical problems are real or mostly ironed out (I bought my wife a new Wrangler JL a year and a half ago and it hasn't had any issues) so time will tell. I have to say, turning the keys over and saying goodbye was pretty bittersweet. I do love these trucks a lot but I was always looking at diesel trucks. Time will tell if it's one of those "the grass is greener" things or if I'm really happy with it. Excited to learn about a new platform and oil burner and the tuning and such. At the very least, I got a great deal and since diesels seem to hold their value and the cummins guys are diehard I can always come back without too much pain to the wallet. I'll still prob be around poking now and then but figured I'd share since this forum has been such a large part of my truck build and deepened my knowledge by such a huge amount. -

I don't know how you didn't switch brands. I would have left GM had that happened to me. -

My first job was at a hobby shop (selling rc cars/trucks, models, etc.) and I had one of those on my keychain from something that was turned in defective. At the time I thought chicks would ask me about it since I was young and thought chicks digged cars and car guys. Wasn't till I was well into my 20s that I realized 99% of chicks couldn't tell you the model of the car if they were staring right at it. -

For whatever it's worth you can always swap/buy the OEM connections if that is important to you. Gives you more options for CAI while keeping the factory plugs. -

Nothing new but changed my phone holder so that it doesn't cover any of the screen from the drivers side and routed the cable into the top glove compartment so the cable is hidden. The cable currently just hangs which isn't a big deal since I always plug my phone in, but I might try and make/find a 3d printed piece that holds the base of the plug under the phone so it stays in place. Depends on how I'm feeling after a bit. -
After Workout with cloth interior
Penguin VII replied to Jheyt's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
There are some oddly hostile comments on this. Get a grip guys, even if the gym has a shower I prefer to drive home and shower. I'd rather sit stinky for an extra 15 mins and have my own private shower where I don't have to wear flops or see some old guys junk personally. As for your question OP, I've had this issue in the past and I think a few people have given good recommendations, here is what I've done: Carry a large towel or beach towel with you and drape the seat after a workout. Just remember to wash it every few sessions. Just sit on the cloth and hit it with febreze every once in a while, seemed to work for me in the past but didn't do it long term. Bite the bullet and get some seat covers. You can get nice custom fitted ones in a variety of styles and material. I've got some cordura ones that are pretty water resistant in case something is spilled. I take them out and clean them maybe once a year? Neoprene is another option but remember they can easily burn if you happen to get cig/cigar embers on them. -

@ducklawyer Great looking pup you got there. Sunglasses are a nice touch, haha. -
I could be very wrong but I do not see that happening. Although the ZR2 model seemed to receive a lot of praise from reviewers I don't know that the sales numbers justified the investment (no data). I see RAM taking a stab with their new truck as a direct competitor to the Raptor, and it looks to be exciting if it resembles anything close to their concept truck. (I hear it's going to have the 6.2L supercharged hellcat motor in it, let's pray to god that is true) GM sadly has a history of pretty crappy off road editions of trucks. I think the cyclone was the last real edition of a truck that was a justified model. Generally they slap on some crappy shocks and call it off road, even the AT4, which looks nice and all, is just a glorified 2" spacer lift from my understanding. Really hope I'm wrong. Would love to see something comparable from GM that has the 6.2L v8 with a supercharger, upgraded axels and slight lift (3" maybe?) with flares so you can fit 35/37s. I don't expect it to happen but I hope I'm wrong.

I've got the M18, have been pretty impressed with it, although I've noticed that the orbital sander chews through the smaller batteries, but the larger one lasts forever. Pretty happy with the Milwaukee line of tools in the few years I've had them honestly.

I was told by my local Lowes that you can only exchange Craftsman tools purchased there.

I've noticed that my Craftsman sockets have started to have a higher chance to round bolts. I wasn't sure why initially but I'm starting to think that the sockets are just cheap which is causing them to extend past the original sizes. I need to get a spec and measure to get a better sense of this but it's partly what started me looking at new tools.

Hey all, I recently came across garagejournal while poking around looking at info for building a garage (which I hope to do in the next 2-3 years to start some bigger projects). Boy oh boy are those some opinionated folks over there. While I've got a lot more poking around to do I have been looking at a lot of the reviews for the new HF Icon line of tools, and everything looks real solid about them. I bought a torque wrench to replace my crappy Craftsman one and have been impressed with it's initial quality (time will tell how it holds up). I know HF seemed to have exclusively garbage in the past but seem to have really turned things around in the past few years with many more quality items. I'm curious to know what tool brand you would all recommend. I refuse to spend money on Snap-On/Mac/etc. I just don't use them for a living and can't justify the cost. I've been bitten a few times by Husky and Kobalt (although maybe they have turned around in recent years as well) and Craftsman is pretty much dead to me. I'm not looking for used tools because I don't want to go through the hassle of QCing everything and worrying about where to find X or Y, I'd rather just buy new and preferably from the same spot, but I don't need everything matching, just makes life simpler. Anyway, what are everyones thoughts here? People still live by Craftsman? Snap-On or nothing? What is your recommendation for solid middle of the road tools?

Automation has been the future forever. Around 1900 there were over 10 million people employed in agriculture, today it's somewhere around 2 million? Prior to the 1900s there were maybe around 2? Sure the US population continued to grow which in part raised the number of ag workers but so did the fact that people stopped relying on their own local farms and bought from grocery chains. With the rise in automation those same jobs are now very low, even though we are producing more food than ever before. Same goes for the auto workers, the rise in the automobile gave these workers jobs, yet as the car became more widespread automation helped costs go down. The numbers for pretty much every industry goes like that. The panic around automation that's happening now has been going on forever. The only difference is that technology continues to be introduced faster and faster. As the rate of innovation rises so does the likelihood that someone in a low skilled trade will be automated out. We are probably less than 10 years away from having a fast food place run itself with only a sole person there.the push for $15 (whether or not it's right) will only speed up the rate at which those workers are replaced. The real industries to look at would be ones that are hard to automate away, or costly to do so. Auto mechanics, most construction (until 3d printed homes become a viable thing), electrical, plumbing, anything that requires a level of dexterity and some amount of creative thinking that isn't a stationary task is likely to be around here a lot longer, maybe beyond a full generation.

Not at all man. Still was pretty easy, just giving a heads up to others. Looks way more premium now with the class. The edge looks factory and feels much nicer. Hopefully easier to keep clean too. -

For anyone installing the glass screen protector I'd avoid using the dust removal sticker the pack comes with. It ended just leaving marks I had to wipe off. -
I wouldn't be either if I was forced to go on strike and get paid $250 a week by a union that I'm paying $100 a month to already so they can tell me I'm welcome to go back to a job that hasn't changed and that I get no additional benefit from. It seems very clear to me that unions had their time and sad to say but automation is steadily replacing all these jobs. All unions do now is inflate the price of labor. If there were no union than every auto manufacture would surely lower their wages, which would result in people leaving and/or not caring about the work, which would lead to poor QA (which lets face it GM doesn't need any more of) which would then lead to GM folding or smartening up and paying higher wages for more skilled labor. I feel worst for kids that are just starting work at these companies that are moving as quickly as possible to automate, they are the ones that will feel this the most as their jobs are cut halfway through their career and they are left with few options outside of learning a trade or going back to college. Rant over.
