  1. Yeah I decided against cutting the stock antenna or getting a shorty as I never listen to FM. The sole pro of having an antenna there that sticks above the Sirius/GPS Sharkfin on the roof is, it gives you a heads up as to whether you are going to clear an overhang. But if you know the height of your truck you don't have to worry about it anyway. I know there are some areas that may not have a posted low height, but if so, when in doubt, just don't drive under it. It's ancient to have a metal rod antenna on a vehicle these days and it's annoying as it flops around in the wind as you drive in your peripheral. So I'd rather just plug it. I'll get one of the nylon plugs at Lowe's next time I go, thanks
  2. I haven't listened to FM in years, been all SiriusXM for a long time. So I took my antenna off the truck within the first week or two, where did you get the plug? Thanks
  3. This is true, I checked after I posted that it was similar but different. Guess it still is technically, because anybody who using pin 10 (with 18 i believe) will have the fogs stay on with high beams but won't have fogs on with parking/low beams.
  4. Similar but different. In order to do that you use different pin slots not pin #10 and #22 as I posted for the fogs on with low beams/parking lights.
  5. Not sure what you are trying to point out here I wrote up how to do this mod after I did it myself, so I know it's correct. I am not aware of any typo or anything that I posted being a "mirror opposite", and many others have done this mod after reading my post and nobody has had issues. Use #10 and #22 Pin with the diode. Your fog lights will come on when your parking/headlights come on when in AUTO mode on the dial, exactly as I wanted. You never have to touch the fog light button OR the headlights on button. Just leave it in AUTO and your headlights AND foglights will come on when the light is low.
  6. 2017 GMC Sierra SLT CC 4x4 OffRoad Pack (Z71), Premium Plus Package, 6.2 - Steel Aluminum may be lighter and stiffer, but betting not stronger even if it's thicker. From what I've been seeing there is zero rhyme or reason to which gets the aluminum and which gets the steel, which is absurd on GM's part to just randomly throw different metal control arms on different trucks. I'd think Z71 trucks should have steel, as hitting a rock on the control arm while off roading I can imagine the steel ones would fair much better than the aluminum ones. Also read in this thread somewhere that someone was comparing the weight savings of control arms to lighter weight wheels and tires. Not the same. Wheels and tires are unsprung rotational mass directly attached to the drivetrain and turned by the engine. Control arms are not.
  7. The "for some reason" is so other retailers do buy them all up and sell them at a higher price for a profit. The 25% off is for consumers not for other companies to make money off of the deal.
  8. Yes, jumping #10 (fog lights) with #22 (It's really with the parking lights), which are of course tied to the low beams as the low beams don't come on without the parking lights. This way you could also run the fogs with just the parking lights if you wish too by moving the dial selector one move to the right of "auto" on the dash knob. The fogs are not on during the day with the DRL. DRL are on different fuses/relay. The parking lights and the blinkers are also on different relays and lights, so the fogs don't come on with the blinkers either.
  9. Here's another cheap "mod" I noticed when you look inside the rear wheel wells and from the back of the truck on the frame and on the rear axle and axle housing there are BLUE dots scattered in certain areas. It's really easily visible through the rear wheel wells on the black frame. Well, personally I just took a bit of Rust-O-Leum Flat Black paint and sprayed a touch over each one of those blue dots. No more blue dots visible from the side or rear of truck. LOL, minor I know, but figured what the heck, looks a bit cleaner.
  10. Sure I'll try, haven't posted a pic on this forum yet, but here goes. Go to Amazon or similar and order these: 1N4004 400V 1A Axial Lead Silicon Rectifier Diodes You only need one really but order 25 as it's just as cheap once you take into account shipping if you try to order just one. Plus if you bend or break the one diode, you have back ups. Then you'll look under your dash above your gas pedal. You'll see a bunch of small power blocks inserted into a larger one. You want to locate the BROWN one. At the top you see a release latch. Go ahead and push it in and pull the small BROWN electrical block out of the larger one. Twist it around so it's oriented with the release latch up. Using the diagram in the picture I've attached, locate pin/cable slot #10. It's obviously 2 slots over from #8 that's marked on the diagram. Insert one end of the electrical diode down into that #10 slot. If needed use a needle nose pliers. The diode pins are pretty bendable so just make sure you get some of it down into the #10 slot. Then go down to the bottom (last row away from the release latch and go to slot #22 (clearly one over from the #21 that's marked in the diagram). Push the other end of the diode down into the #22 slot. Once you have them both in the #10 slot and the #22 slot, you've made a jumper "bridge" between the two. Gently twist the BROWN electrical cube back so it's oriented and push it back into it's motherboard. It will click back in. Insert key in your ignition and test it out. You're FOG LIGHTS should automatically be ON if your low beam headlights are ON. When your low beam headlights are OFF, the fog lights will also be OFF. You can now just leave the dash mounted headlight selector in AUTO and your low beams and your fog lights will both automatically come on each and every time your headlights come on, and go off when the headlights go off. All done.
  11. I'm going to try the brand new Goodyear TrailRunner AT's in 275/60/20 They are so new that neither Tirerack nor the official Goodyear site themselves has a single review yet. I was going to go with the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 (which have a great looking tread) but the reason I was swayed to the Goodyear is for two reasons. They are the OEM tire brand on the Sierra, as well as my prior two Ram Laramies. Of course the Sierra and the Ram's both use the SR-A tires, but they've been quite good. So I felt comfortable going with them, being a huge company too. But the icing on the cake was the Goodyears are 38 lbs each. The Nitto's are 41 lbs each (about the same as the stock OEM tires) So with the Goodyears, since I'm going 1" taller (and therefore raising my final drive ratio a bit) dropping a bit of rolling mass will hopefully offset it. The wheels I'm putting on are 7-8 lbs lighter each so I'll be dropping 10 lbs per corner of rotational mass. I'm going to have to wait until after the New Year though, the wheels I wanted there were only 2 in stock in the country (even Tirerack has it as "special order"), so the order was placed yesterday, and am hoping for a mid to late January delivery.
  12. Didn't see it yet, but other than free, one of the cheapest mods is the Fog Light on automatically with your low beam headlights. Under $1 for a Diode Jumper and 5-6 minutes to jump Slot #10 Fog Lights into Slot #22 Parking Lights in the power source under the dash just above your brake pedal (or just behind the hood release latch). Pull out little brown electrical "box" place diode into #10 slot and other end into #22 slot. Put little brown jumper back into it's motherboard and done.
  13. I just received my MotoFab 1.5" front lift "near level kit" as I call it today. Like you, I like a bit of the rake to remain. I think the trucks look square, awkward when they are perfectly level in front, and then if you add any kind of a trailer, the back sits lower and the front looks like it's turning it's nose up to the sky. Sadly I won't put the 1.5" motofab on until mid to late January. The wheels I ordered are not in stock anyway and need to be made and then shipped to me. I put 275/60/20 wheels on. I don't do any real off roading, just some dirt roads occasionally so I didn't want too big of tires on. The stock 275/55/20's look to small, even on the stock truck height. What size tires do you have on yours in that pic?
  14. Those tires on that burgundy Sierra look perfect to me. Those look bigger than 275/60/20 however (both wider and a bit taller). What level kit do you have on that truck too?
  15. If you have the 5.3 just use 87 Octane if you go to a top tier gas station. If you have to fill up at some cheap-o no name brand discount gas station, you may want to throw in 89 Octane just to offset the craptacular discount gas.
  16. Which tune are you using?
  17. I've ordered 275/60/20's for my truck on 20x9 aftermarket wheels with 18 mm offset. I'm also adding a 1.5" near level kit in front. The 275/60/20 are the stock size on Ram 1500's and I think they look better than the 275/55/20 on GM's trucks which look a touch small. But those of you talking about putting 275/65/20 have you considered 295/60/20 instead. Here's my rational for it: 275/65/20 tires to me may look too skinny for how tall they are. 295/60/20 tires are actually a fraction under 34" tall, where 275/65/20 are a fraction over 34" but the 295/60's are .8 inch wider at roughly 11.80 to the 275/65's 11.0 So you get a tiny bit smaller height but 3/4 inch wider track so it looks more proportioned. 19. So took off one of the wheels/tires from my 2017 Sierra with the 20 x 9 Polished Aluminum wheels. My truck has the Z71 package so it comes with the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires in 275/55/20 size. I bought this truck yesterday and there is only 30 miles on the truck. Total weight was 81.6 lbs For comparison sake in my former 2014 Ram Laramie with the same Goodyear tires but in slightly taller 275/60/20 size, and same 20 x 9 inch wheel size they weighed about 75 lbs total. The tires on the Ram weighed about 41.5 lbs each. So the slightly smaller tires on my Sierra would most likely weigh about 40.5-41 lbs. That means the wheels are about 40-41 lbs each. I weighed them without the lug nuts too.
