Shake or Vibration Issues
wirechild replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Yes it is possible and is one of things the dealer is suppose to try when troubleshooting the issue as outlined on page 3 here: http://gm.oemdtc.com/753/vibration-analysis-and-diagnostic-2014-2015-chevrolet-silverado-gmc-sierra "For 4WD Trucks, remove the rear propeller shaft, seal output shaft and drive the vehicle in 4WD. If the vibration is gone, the rear prop shaft could be the problem." My dealer ignored my request to go through these steps... -

Yeap, Coyote 5.0L and it is much better than I thought it would be. Pulled 5,000lb. load around today and it didn't even seem strained at all. The transmission seems much better than what was in the Silverado, certainly smoother and isn't constantly hunting for a gear. Absolutely loving this truck. I can't believe I waited so long. I wanted a Tundra but couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I now know the F-150 was the better choice for me anyways. Wish you all the best at solving this beast. It seems all of the brands have some issues, just got to decide what you can live with. I couldn't live with the shaking any longer. -

I dropped my truck off on Monday with a different dealer about an hour from me. They went through all the tires/wheels and checked alignment and found nothing out of whack. They called me and said everything seemed normal and with in spec to them. They didn't drive the vehicle so I asked them to do test drives before I come pick it up. They called me Tuesday afternoon and said they wasn't able to drive it but they did go ahead and remove the drive shaft and verified it was balanced properly. It tested "well within spec". I asked why they didn't test drive and was told they didn't need to as they could test it better in the shop than on the poor roads around them. I decided not to push any more. I picked the truck up Wed. morning and drove it 2 blocks down the road and traded it for a 2016 F-150 Platinum. I can't remember ever being so happy with a purchase decision. After owning about a dozen GM vehicles I/nor my kids will ever own another one, never. -

2017, there are a few that have come in around here but most of them were pre-sold. Keeping my eye out for one though. They are selling them about 5k above list around ~70k -

No it is completely different, it is more vibration than shake. I don't feel it at all in the console/seat now. -

Got my axles replaced on 1/11. Still early ~150 miles, but so far very much improved. I still have a slight vibration at 45-60, very tolerable, but around 62 it completely goes away and is really smooth all the way up to 90. Need much more time/miles to see if it stays away. The guy who replaced the axles said they ones he took out looked fine to him and didn't see anything obviously wrong with him. He also insisted my problem is tires/wheels or brakes. He claims that they have fixed several of these "newer trucks with vibration by putting on after market brake pads"... I don't have much faith in that shop though but they were the only place around that could get Yukon axles and do the swap. Really don't want the truck anymore either way though. It has really caused me so much stress that I get up every morning hoping it was stolen. I will be trading it soon, tried to get a Ford Raptor this morning but was already sold. -

If my dealer was willing to fix it or at least try something other than tires/wheels then I would be more than happy to take it to them. After 7 visits (several weeks without my truck) they haven't offered/agreed to do anything else. I was going to order new axles but finally found a place about an hour away that sells/installs Yukon axles so they ordered them and I will get my replaced Monday. Will cost me $700 which is nothing if it fixes the problem. This is my last try at fixing it as I have test drove a few new F150's, Titans and Tundras this past weekend and they all drove really nice. I actually kept the Titan overnight, Nissan did well with the upgrade in my opinion. -

I have the opposite experience. I have tried everything from 26-42 and have had the least vibration, or at least feel in the cab, around 37-40. My tires call for 32-35. -

I have been mounting a camera in different places and capturing the ride to/from work everyday... So far nothing there sticks out to me as the source. i am going to pull the wheels off tomorrow and check the axles like the video that 07Softail posted. -

I can't find any place local that does that so I am looking at ordering an aftermarket one, seems like an easy place to start for me. -

Been reading through this forum the last couple days to see what others have tried. I have a 2016 Crew 4WD Z71 that shakes really bad at 65-80MPH. I have been working with my dealer and another dealer in a nearby town and they have not been able to fix the shaking. Both dealers insist that it is normal for full size trucks to have some "vibrations at higher speeds" which is just BS. I have owned/ridden in several full size 4D 4wd trucks that ride butter smooth at all speeds on good roads. After 7 dealer visits and being with out my truck for a total of 40 days I am giving up on GM fixing this or making it right. During this time I have driven 6 other trucks that had at least some shaking with 2 of them being as bad as mine. I will never buy another GM product, period. Both dealers have refused to change anything other than tires/wheels. I am on my third complete set of tires/wheels and a few one offs (15 total different tires) that the dealer swapped out. None of those changes made any difference at all. I currently have 20" KMC XD wheels with 285/60 Toyo Open Country tires. Before giving up I would like to start trying some NON OEM replacement parts and would like any advice on what others have used either to correct this problem or just in general. Going to start with driveshaft but not sure where to get one from as there isn't any place local that makes them. Torque converter? axles? rear end? Do plan to swap out the shocks with Bilstein 5100 shocks. I did have a rough country level kit added but that had no impact on the shaking. I guess it could be removed with the Ride-Height Adjustable Shocks? I am considering a 6" lift but need to fix the shaking first because in the end I will need to trade this off for something else rather soon. I am willing to do about anything to fix it. I don't have a shop or lots of equipment so will need to find someone local that will do some of the work for me. One last thing, the shaking is extreme when pulling a loaded trailer. ATVs or boat...
