  1. Hello everyone. I was successful removing the vibration above 60 by switching to Michelin tires and after two sets and a new Hunter balancer, four or five new wheels and then switching to 18” wheels to get a smoother ride it came back. I really believe this insane force driving market to larger and larger wheels and lower profile tires is ruining the ride in just about every car. I have a chronic back problem and run my 18” tires at 27lbs to get a bit of a smoother ride. I still get 21 mpg. Recently I took a brand new Mercedes GLS 450 with an adaptive ride dampening system. It had 18” wheels on it and guess what? At 65 mph it had a tire out of balance issue. It did have a nice ride dampening system though. My 2017 Sierra has cost me a fortune trying to make it ride nice over these crappy roads. It just doesn’t cut it. So, between the crappy roads, the large tires and low profile tires we are all screwed and cars will never ride smooth again. I fly anywhere I need to go now over a two hour ride. I traded a 2014 exact same model and packages that road great. 2017 was like getting in a go-kart . GM said it was because of roll over standards blah blah blah. I love the truck but hate the ride.
  2. My 2017 GMC Sierra 4x4 is wonderful if you don’t have to drive it on these third world roads in the great USA. Obviously gas taxes are not going to road improvements. I went through five sets of tires and many sets of wheels. Downsized to 18” wheels and leave the tire pressures at 28lbs cold. Love the trick, the features, the looks but I can’t stand the ride. Looking to get out of it soon but not sure whatnto replace it with. I don’t think trucks are made to ride decent any longer. Too much emphasis on roll over ratings and other perimeters. Any suggestions of a replacement that will ride smoother on these roads is welcome. Good Luck .
  3. I ended up with Goodyear SR-A tires which are P265/65R18 . It did take 9 tires to get 4 that would baiance within specs so be patient. I had the same experience with Michelins in the 20" size and had to go through a bunch of tires to get a full set to balance right. It must be an issue with all tire manufacturers for some reason, I suspect the harder sidewalls since they are all but disappearing. I am in my truck all day and really get to know every vibration and rattle and can quickly notice any differences.
  4. Isn’t it supposed to be green?
  5. Sorry, I thought everyone had the vibration problem. Have a great day. I am having left over ham fried in with my eggs this morning fyi?.
  6. That’s graditude every mom and dad loves to enjoy. My sons are perfectly content with ham and turkey for Christmas and the next three days . At least the vibration in your car can help your intestines shake all of that stuff through. Happy New Year ! !
  7. Yes, I am delighted. It's reallly a long story but I will keep it short and to the point. My initial problem was the truck road harsh, vibrated and came with eagle LS2 tires 20". I bit the bullet and put first Michelin Premier LTX tires on it. The truck was smooth as silk with no vibrations up to 90mph and probably above but I didn't push the speed limit any further. I wasn't satisfied with the harshness over bumps and read a review on the truck on line in a magazine and they said the truck was a much less harsh ride with 18" wheels. I think it was a truck and driver magazine. I talked the factory and the dealership into putting 18" wheels on the truck and opted for the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A since they came on a coworkers truck and his road extremely smooth. After installing the Goodyear tires the harshness was reduced and now I had a vibration from 64mph up. They road force balanced when they installed and again after 1000 miles. This did not get rid of the vibration. I called Goodyear and they authorized replacing all 4 tires. This helped but I still had a vibration at 73 mph up. One tire was road force balanced and they could not bring the number down below 19lbs road force. This was acceptable according the the guidelines of the Hunter ($20,000) wheel balancer but a service bulletin for vibration for these trucks had the limit at 15lbs. I called Goodyear again and they agreed to replace the one tire. It balanced out at 6lbs. and now the truck is vibration free. The Michelin Premier LTX were not available in the 18" size otherwise I would have gone with them again. I will say though, these Goodyear SR-A are very quiet, nice handling in wet and snow and do soften the bumps a bit. I hope this helps some of you looking for the anwer to the vibrations. I really believe most of it is the tires since the sidewalls have shortened and gotten stiffer which messes with the roundness. Make sure to insist on getting the roadforce numbers when having them balanced that way. Have a Merry Christmas!
  8. Well, with the help and patience of a very dedicated service and sales department my vibrations are gone. The culprits were tires. Goodyear was very happy to help as well as the GM dealership. It cost me hours of time and purchasing tires and staying firm until all of the tires were within the -15 lbs road force balance perimeter as drawn out in the tsb . The hunter balancer has the upper limit at 24lbs but that is too much . It makes the tire not only noisey but also vibrate. The tsb for vibration sets 15lbs as the upper limit . Ask for the readout of the road force balance before and after tires are adjusted for the best possible result. If the dealer has the latest and greatest Hunter balancer it will provide the print out. Hang firm and you too may end up with a smooth ride and now have to keep an eye on your speed because you no longer have the stuff in your console jumping all around over 64mph.
  9. Good Morning, That is very interesting, I am interested how your truck is riding now that you replaced all of the shocks and installed the sulastics Snoringbear. Also what brand shocks you replaced them with. I am starting the looking process for another vehicle that will allow me to enjoy driving. Maybe that vehicle doesn’t exist but I am all ears if anyone has any suggestions. I like riding high enough to see traffic ahead of me as well as the safety aspect of heavier vehicle than the other guy. Does anyone have a suggestion of a vehicle other than a Citroen that has a suspension that smooths out the road to the highest degree. Not it sure I will still be able to walk by 2020 waiting for these new technology shocks. Have a great day!
  10. You are correct, all shops are full of there own product line. I would wonder how many people that have these same issues don’t know these forums exist or much less would take the time to get involved to research issues. That said, maybe there are more Issues that are left unreported or the drivers just don’t care or consider normal. I think these forums are great because eventually you may find a solution to an issue if persistence is in your genes. I actually had someone point out the answer to my frame thread. I appreciate when others help find solutions and always look for others opinions when stumped in life. Thanks Rick, it’s my first project tomorrow to point out the part numbers for the frame is the same for my old 2014 and my new 2017. That is an important detail that may open some eyes. At the very least it will put in question the authenticity of the GM field reps position.
  11. I still have my 2005 Ram pick up for hauling junk around the farm. It has never let me down and I switched to GMC trucks in 2104. That 2014 was tremendous. My 2017 sucks so far. I agree about the Dodge Ram outdated design. I can see much difference between the 2005 in my driveway than the new ones. That is one of the main reasons I haven’t looked at Dodges again . All manufacturers build a bad one once in a while . Seems like GM I s cornering the market on harsh rides and vibrators.
  12. It is really a shame GM customer Service has been trained to blow people off on a normal basis. I find it rediculious that legal action is the only way to looose more money but ultimately get rid of the disappointing large purchase. It seems you can get better customer service for a thousand dollar Ipad than you can get for a $50;000.00 purchase wig GM. WITH A WARRANTY STILL IN AFFECT. GM really has to step up to the plate and stop using the dealers as their scapegoats.
  13. Good Luck with your Rubicon . It truly is a shame GM is not listening. I have many contractors for clients. I drive up in my beautiful GMC pickup and they have 300 Ford pickups in their fleets. Many of them are in their shops being worked on. I always wondered why so many Fords, why not GM Trucks. The answer I keep hearing is, the suspension on the Fords goes forever. I really like my gmc but am starting to think there might be something to this Ford thing. I cant get the suspension straightened out in 4000miles. Nuts
