  1. The comment about this article created by GM was spot on!!! lol I still have the same issue/experience. I can positively say in my situation, the oil consumption I experience is directly related to my towing. I still try to drive the speed limit on the interstate where there is minimum traffic and the truck does not like it! With wind I sometimes get 4 MPG!!!!!!! oddly enough, if I tow a utility trailer that weighs almost 10K versus my camper which is only 7K and the difference is huge! Guess that wind sail makes all the difference. Happy towing everyone!!!!
  2. So your saying I should put a hitch on my vette to take advantage of the aerodynamics for towing........
  3. I'm pretty sure the "best" was downhill with the wind at my back!!! lol 12-14 is what I usually get on the highway unloaded
  4. I'm sure it's the environment, maybe the humidity specifically, but I've never had trans temps that low. Next time I'm driving in my wife's SUV I'll snap a pic for comparison. It too hovers around 180
  5. This is my trans temp unloaded, also posted a pic of the ambient temp. At least my MPG's are up! lol
  6. No stepping on toes here, I welcome any and all info and opinions!!! Down here in Corpus, I don't think I've even had my trans temps that low. Even on my wifes SUV which is a full size it flirts with the 180-190 range
  7. I have read that with a gas engine, the powerband is between 3-5K RPMS, this makes sense since the truck has no issues holding speed at 75 while in 4th gear, but once it goes to 5th, rpms drop to 2300 but any little incline or gust of wind or even a change in the road ( I assume some asphalt is not as smooth) causes it to downshift and catch back up.
  8. Since this was my daily driver up until recently, a few times that I have gone between oil changes without towing and in those circumstances I do not have major oil consumption. It maybe consumed a quart after 6K miles which is typical in my experience. Even in my previous trucks with the 5.3L their was some oil consumption. The trip back is mostly flat and going southbound is "downhill". The slight incline for overpasses causes the truck to downshift which is why I lock out 5th and 6th sometimes.
  9. Not sure what oil temp was but I monitor trans temp at it was steady at 196 degrees. It does creep up to 206 in stop and go traffic but comes back down. While driving without a trailer its usually around 185-190.
  10. Here's a minor update. Last oil change was 3/7/25 @ 59,261. No longer using this truck as my daily driver, its only driven when "truck" abilities are needed. That said, checked oil on 6/17/25 before a camping trip and it was a qt low. At that time milage was about 60,518. This still falls below the threshold that GM says is normal (1 qt per 100 gallons of fuel). Here is a screenshot of us driving home southbound on I37 outside San Antonio to Corpus......Now before I get ridiculed for driving too fast I really don't see an issue driving the speed limit while towing. The traffic was minimal and there is absolutely no sway but the MPG's are insanely low!!! This may not be the right place to ask this but does anyone else get this type of fuel mileage??? My camper is not heavy but it guess it likes to catch wind. Truck constantly down shifts on minor hills, I tend to keep it in L5 that way I can lock it in 4th to minimize shifting with the press of a button, then back to L5 for straightaways.
  11. Ha Ha Ha!!! I TOTALLY misread that!!!!
  12. where are you able to find zero interest??? Id be very interested what bank if offering this! Thanks in advance!!!!
  13. I too am NOT a mechanic, I would classify myself as a youtuber DIY. Most things I understand but there is ALOT that I do not. I say this because I often go by what a manufacture recommends unless I have compelling reasons not to. In the case of the K&N filter, The manufacture recommends service intervals of 100K. I have also read on forums that servicing it often will lead to filter oil being "bled" into the intake which is not good. I have also read that if you can see the filter wire, then service is not required. I do check mine for leaks but I have not clean and re-oiled it. Being half-way through the recommend service internal I see no harm if cleaning it early and may do so this weekend.
  14. I have always used Mobile 1 full synthetic and a mobile 1 filter. here is a screen shot of my maintenance log and fuel log for reference.
  15. Yup I'm still here, watching and waiting. I keep meticulous records of maintenance and gas mileage and ONLY have oil consumption when towing. My travel trailer is not heavy but does catch the wind like a sail and makes this engine work. Still, even under a heavy load I didn't expect this but not much I can do at this point. Currently at 59,453 miles and no other major issues. Just towed my camper over the weekend at was getting 4mpg at 71MPH driving into the wind. Really sucks
  16. welcome to the club! Mine likes to consume oil! Seems to only happen under heavy loads. My camper isn't really heavy but it does catch alot of wind making the engine work at highway speeds. Just add when low and keep driving! Not much else I can do at this point.
  17. nice! let me know which tires you end up with! I have that size in BFG AT and never had any issues but its time to replace them, curious what you end up with!
  18. I too had a WD hitch that I used on my half-ton. Continued to use it when I initially bought this truck and after a couple of trips decided to try it without and haven't used it since! My TT is a 2020 Grand design imagine 2400BH which is about 30ft and has a GVWR of 7500. Truck and trailer pull great, gas mileage sucks on the highway maintaining Texas highway speeds (not speeding just going the speed limit) but never feels unsafe. Once you try it without the WD hitch I'm sure you"ll likely never use it again!!!!
  19. UPDATE: Truck currently at 57,951. No change really, same issue but I firmly believe taking to dealer would have been a total waste of time, even to have it documented since it technically is "within spec". Oil life indicator is currently at 23% and just received an "add engine oil" message. Sure enough dipstick read low and added almost 2 quarts for it to register again. Did some towing the past couple of months and that seems to be the "reason". Crappy MPG's and oil consumption maintaining highway speeds while towing a 7500 lb camper but she still makes it to the destination so can I really complain?
  20. I think that's completely normal, I too am a novice so take my opinion very lightly. I'm curious what your trans temp and MPG's are. I have a lighter bumper pull trailer that has a big frontal footprint and get wildly less MPG's than anyone has posted here. Maybe I am an aggressive driver but I truly don't think so. The truck feels solid and here in south Texas, interstate speed limit is 75 MPH so I generally set the cruise at 77 and just drive. Even at that speed I'm usually getting passed but at no time do I feel unsafe. To maintain that speed I'm usually in 4th gear and its screaming at 3K rpms (although not really loud in the cab). The truck consumes oil when towing at high rpms, I've read this is not a problem for a gasser since its keeps it in the "power band". Coolant temp stays at 220, trans is at 205, MPG is at 5-6. Currently at 53K miles and no real issues thus far.
  21. I don't believe my truck has this reset button under the steering wheel. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Have you seen or hear of the BFG HD-Terrain? Curious is anyone has tried those. Also seeing that the KO2's have now been replaced with the KO3's
  23. The relearn tools I have seen are a couple hundred dollars! Can you share what relearn tool you are using?
  24. I noticed your front axle is rated at 6K, do you have the snow plow prep package?
