2019 Silverado here, and my first truck with a backup camera. They need to just add a button to temporarily shut off the display when needed. Trying to backup a trailer in the dark with no streetlights is darn near impossible because I cannot see the side mirrors with that bright display. The camera is useless for backing a trailer so being able to shut off the display would make sense.
