  1. I enjoy listening to crickets chirp so I'll ask anyway. The idle re-learn for this is 3 minutes at idle, 1 minute off, 3 on again? Acceptable closed TPS idle range? I assume Wysong knows but he's been very busy lately.
  2. The truck seems to idle fine, about 600 rpm in park or neutral. The astronomical idle in gear issue remains.
  3. Well I'm all ears if anyone knows what the proper, closed throttle range is supposed to be?
  4. No codes at all. I cleaned the he!! out of the throttle body when I had it off a couple months ago to replace the fuel injector spider. I have not messed with the throttle stop. That's not to say it hasn't been adjusted. The truck was in rough shape when I bought it. It was cheap for a reason. My TPS shows .39% at idle I thought the "idle relearn" was only for the modern fly-by-wire throttle systems? Mine is old school cable operated.
  5. Is there a link between the transmission being in a drive gear and engine idle speed? Does the trans send a signal to the PCM that raises the idle? My truck is an S10 but this forum gets much more traffic than the S10 room does so I'm posting here. Sorry. Truck has 137k miles, I've kept up on maintenance to include replacing the F.I. spider a couple months ago which fixed a "hard to start" issue. I cant find any vac leaks, TPS and IAC valve are new too. The truck knows when it's in drive or reverse and the idle speed rises to about 1400rpm. Sometimes, when I'm driving, I'll pull it into neutral, the rpm's will sort of cycle, 1000, 1500, 2000, 1500, 1000. Strange. Yes, I've searched here and on the net in general. Everyone says throw a TPS or IAC at it. I bought one of those bluetooth dongles on ebay but to be honest, I dont know much about the diagnostic data it gives me. I'm wondering if it's a transmission or PCM issue and not a fuel system issue at all. Really need a little help, any input would be appreciated.
  6. The ride can be a bit unpleasant. It's the front-end, back is fine. I need to find some shorter front shocks, I'm guessing the drop moved the shock's sweet spot. I get a fair amount of bounce of I hit a good bump at speed. Shocks don't seem to provide as much compression and rebound damping as the used to.
  7. I've gone full tilt punk-ass. 3" in the front, 2" in the back, springs and lowering blocks. I dig it.
  8. I replaced the steering gear and shaft in my '03 S10 2WD a few days ago. Dead simple job, truck handles like new now, no more wandering down the freeway. I installed one of those Hooker/Blackheart shafts instead of going back with a rag-joint shaft. I had to beat the hell out of the old pitman arm to get it off the gear so I replaced that too. Couple of hundred bucks, couple of hours, well worth the time and money.
  9. The idea of swapping a V8 into my S10 has intrigued me lately. My biggest question is how do guys get the finished product inspected and/or smogged? The truck never came with a V8, someone is going to notice that. The state sniffs exhaust where I live. Not to mention the most obvious issue of all the check engine lights. Honest question; How did you get you truck inspected once you completed the swap?
  10. Saw a 2nd gen S10 today wearing a set of old Camaro/Vette style rally wheels. Truck was nicely lowered and looked great.
  11. Those Dorman bushings are CRAP! They're made of sintered bronze. I like the idea of those ^^^ bushing. They're actually made on a lathe...from real metal. Has anyone tried the "block of wood" sagging door adjustment method? Seems too good to be true.
  12. I found this today... https://www.cunninghammachine.com/product/heavy-duty-chevrolet-gmc-truck-1994-2005-s10-bronze-door-bushings/ I naturally found it AFTER I ordered some genuine GM bushings to replace the Dorman bushings. I'm going to order these when the Chevy bushings fail
  13. Hey that's just what I'm looking for. Thanks. I'll keep an eye on that, going to need four. I'm having second thoughts about the Moon discs. My daughter is good with computers, I'm going to see if she can photoshop them on a picture of my truck. If I've done my homework correctly the factory wheels are 15X7 with a 5 1/2" backspace.
  14. It definitely sounds like the radio has taken a dump.
  15. I really hate my wheels. Really. I'd love to get a set of plain, black steelies but I dont think any are available in stock offset/backspace/whatever-it's-called. Does anyone know of a 15 inch steelie that fits a 2WD S10? In the meantime I'm going to get a set of Moon discs if they'll work with aluminum wheels.
  16. Speaker should be easy enough to remove. The grille probably wont survive being jostled around though. Pull it out an ensure it's connected. It could be dry-rotted to death. That being said, you've found that it is a "known issue" on the generation of truck...that's probably your issue as well. Keep googling for the solution. Might just be easier to buy a cheap head unit online. Crutchfield sells great installation kits.
  17. It could just need a good tune up. Plugs, wires, cap rotor, filters. Give everything under the hood a good looking over. Check for disconnected vac hoses, loose or unplugged elec connectors. RPM's at idle while in gear?
  18. That Dorman part in my post from March 7 fixed the horn. It wasn't the clock spring. ETA; I never had an Airbag light IIRC.
  19. I adjusted that before I rebuilt the front end. Having to make constant steering corrections gets old fast.
  20. Well I can tell you what colors DONT come close... Rustolem Coastal Gray Testor's Graphite Dust
  21. Started the truck after changing the oil this morning and the radiator started dumping coolant all over the garage floor. I never understood radiators with plastic side tanks. I guess I shouldn't ****** too much, radiator could have failed on the freeway during our glorious afternoon rush hour. That would have sucked.
  22. My truck needs a new steering gear. It "wanders" at highway speeds, even after a complete front-end rebuild. It annoys the crap outta me. A damper would be an easier, quicker, and cheaper fix until this fall. I'm going to replace the steering gear when the weather cools off a bit.
  23. Well that's a start at least. Thanks. Rockauto sells a replacement damper by Gabriel. I'll email them (Gabriel) and ask if the have the installation kit for it.
  24. I know this seems elementary but have you verified you have a spark? Could you loosen a fuel line connection and verify you're getting fuel at the engine ?
