  1. I read somewhere the Custom/WT 24 models have the 23 dash/instrumentation and it is the LT and up trims that have the new dash. Since you sat in a Custom, is that factual? Also I haven't been able to compare a double cab vs crew cab. Big difference?
  2. Great comments by all! Opinions and real world experience. All food for thought. I do have a deposit on a 23 that had an arrival date of May 18th. A couple days ago it got moved up to the 11th. That is great but stressful at the same time. I am preapproved for a loan and have a down payment. But for a truck payment to fit in the budget other "stuff" has to be taken care of. I've been selling hobby stuff at crazy break neck speed. The shortened time frame will have me upping my game. My loan rate is locked for 6 months so I'm safe if I don't reach my goal by the 11th. Which is part of the reason I started this thread. I want to consider a '24 with a 10 speed. Like I need to add complexity to an already monumental financial decision. As I said in another thread, I haven't bought a new vehicle since 1995. I enjoy the technical side of the discussion. It occupies my grey matter like a distraction from the money side of thoughts to a new truck. Thanks all.
  3. Just hoping as the next few months roll along as I prepare to buy a new truck that I can get a '23 for a few dollars off msrp because it "only has" the 6 speed. Unlikely, since the HD truck market has so much pent up demand within 500 miles of my location. Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster...
  4. Wishful thinking on my part. But what’s the probability that new ‘23 trucks will get passed over for a ‘24 model with the 10 speed by perspective buyers? Resulting in ‘23 trucks getting discounted pricing to get them off the lots. Random thoughts while I couldn’t sleep. Opinions? Thanks…
  5. I currently have a deposit on a "standard bed". It grates on me like nails on a chalk board. We as a family are in a situation where our daily driver and tow rig need (want) replacing. Our third vehicle that just doesn't want to die is the 94 in the avatar pic. It is a long bed and will hang around til it dies. Still keeping a look out for a LB and if one comes available there WILL BE a discussion....but ya'll probably know "happy wife is a happy life".
  6. I did the "build a truck" in 2020 on Chevrolet dot com. A custom trim level with the 6.6 gas, 2500. With options that I wanted for towing a camper. A less optioned 2023 2500 Custom is almost $7k more. Geez! I thought I couldn't afford it then.... Wish I had a crystal ball a few years ago. Hell ten years ago. I'd have bought bare land in my area. And I could just sell it now and be paying cash for a new truck..
  7. I do not miss all those lav’s!! Especially using a trash bag up to the shoulder to grab some junk some idiot dropped in there and jammed the dump valve. Now if it happens I know who to blame….
  8. Purple tails, no pax. Same time in the toolbox as you. Coming up on 27 with the purple. It’s a small world and even smaller in aviation. Guarantee we know some of the same folks.
  9. That’s a good lookin rig! Your user name? Fix stuff that flies 6 miles in the sky? I do.
  10. Thanks! Fanciest truck I’ll ever have owned.
  11. Oops! Forgot to add I have (as of 2 days ago) a deposit on a ‘23 2500 Custom, CC, SB, 6.6 gasser! Gonna be great not having a 20+ year old tow rig….
  12. Great topic! Our camper weight is almost the same. I will research more. Had a dip on a curve on a mountain road that unloaded the front suspension on our Suburban once. Thought the camper was gonna push us off the edge.
  13. The experience that soured me was the dealership experience trying to get anything done under warranty. Three different dealerships, three different states. One such experience was a crooked one; X-wife took TA in for CE light on=smog pump. Dealer printed off a repair quote for $800+ and told her it was not covered under warranty. They also told her driving it that way would damage the engine. At the time we did not have the money, so she left the dealer and brought it home so we could discuss. I looked into it and learned about "Federal Emissions Warranty". The manufacturer was responsible for the cost and repair. I returned to said dealer, chewed some ass, listened to their song and dance, got smog pump replaced on GM's dime. One such experience was incompetence; transmission mount failed due to oil leak causing excessive movement of driveshaft which led to pinion seal leaking. Dealer performed repair and while replacing pinion seal, over torqued the hell out of the pinion nut. Leaving the dealer the rear diff. was growling like a mofo. I went back, they told me to pound sand, ain't nothing wrong. Did a 800 mile round trip run a couple days later. Over 90% interstate at 65 mph+. The noise was incredible. When arriving at destination and emptying the trunk I discovered stuff was very warm down at the bottom. A 3 D cell mag light was almost too hot to pick up. After the trip the TA went back to the dealer and had the ring/pinion gear set replaced. I asked for the old parts back and kept them in a box for years. They were chewed up bad. I could go on. But won't. It is dredging up ghosts. It is making me rethink the $500 deposit I have on the '23.....
  14. I have not bought a brand new vehicle since 1995. A Pontiac Trans Am. An experience that caused me to say never again. Guess never lasted 28 years.
  15. I caved. Put a deposit on a 23 CC Standard Bed, Custom trim. My wife drove our 94 extended cab, long bed to a doc appointment yesterday. She mentioned the tightness in the parking garage. So I gave her the wheelbase differences to think on and she concluded a cc longbed would be a no go. The ‘23 will be the family truckster, replacing a Yukon and Suburban. Most days I’ll drive the classic rig. It has a long bed and has a few more years of service life left. This seasons’ camping trips will be a lot less stressful. No more wondering what that new noise is on the ‘01 Suburban. Especially at O dark thirty, 300 miles from home, in the middle of nowhere, wife/kids/dog sleeping, as I’m watching travel trailer lights dance in the mirrors. My 100 pound tool kit will get much lighter as well. Cheers…
  16. Looking at the HD truck market as it is right now a long bed is few and far between. Pricing with the standard bed (6' 11") for 2020 or newer with a 6.6 GAS motor is much closer to being affordable. My plan two weeks ago was for a 60-90 window before purchase. But looking at all the shiny new trucks is tempting. Used is going for sticker price near me and 23 models aren't far off. Incentives in the HD market are starting to pop up. Not near big enough in my opinion. They have a "take delivery by 5/1" so maybe next month will be better. Then again there is pent up demand for HD trucks. If I was to be patient I'd run my old rigs another year...
  17. I agree @Another JR I hauled a big cabover camper with the 94 truck in my avatar for years. Some of the places I went are off limits with my TT now.
  18. Thanks for the picture @Pryme ! Good to read @shadow gray 2020 hd that it'll still hold stuff that size. Food for thought. Much appreciated.
  19. Recently I've seen ads and hear on the radio that light duty trucks/suv's are starting to run special financing incentives. Hopefully it filters up to the HD market. There is one for those as well; 2.9% for 36 mo. Smart money considering interest rates. But dayum that payment size, unless a person has 40% to put down.
  20. I can see parking lots being a pain. A lot of them are striped for smaller vehicles. Even my local Lowe's. I've had too many loads that were made easier with a long bed. Oddball, random stuff for family usually. Had a load of pallets last week for my FIL. Done in one trip vs. two.
  21. At this stage I'm looking at used and the outlook isn't promising. What happened to "once it's driven off the lot it loses 10%" ? Used are just under what they stickered for or above by a few grand on some lots. If that is the way it stays 90 days from now, I'll order one exactly the way I want. Here in Idaho, if a vehicle is 30 years old it qualifies for a Classic license plate. My 94 hits that next year! Of course those plates aren't for daily drivers though.
  22. I have never owned a crew cab before. So maybe there is something I don’t know about having a long bed behind that. I don’t have to worry about fitting in a garage. Can’t get a vehicle in there anyway. Tiny house so the garage is a big walk in closet/pantry/etc. I have found a perfectly (almost) optioned truck in my area. But it’s black and I just started looking. After 10 days of looking I may have to compromise on color. I’m fine with that with the exception being red. Can’t do that one. Had enough of that color in sunny Idaho. Summers are hot and black would be hotter. And a real pain in upkeep. I am hoping and a wishing that with new models hitting the lots over the next few months that the number of trade ins goes up.
  23. Currently investigating a new to me truck. I haven’t been in the market for one for a few years. Last time I looked short beds everywhere and long beds few and far between. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve discovered nothing has changed. I must be weird to want a long bed truck. I don’t often need a truck bed, but every time I do a long bed is a must for whatever I manage to get myself into. I’ve looked at the short beds on the lots and just can’t imagine myself with one. I’ve owned them all short, long and stepside. So as this journey progresses over the next couple/few months I hope to find a CC long bed. Am I weird? (rhetorical, go ahead and make fun, It’s ok I know I am off kilter a few degrees)
  24. Congrats on the new upcoming ride! Considering used prices I’d say ordering what you want is a great idea.
