  1. Glad it's not a RED tag. When I drove for WM, I got yanked by DOT and red-tagged on the spot! Had to have the boss pick me up. When the trooper asks, "Do you mind if I use foul language?", in order to describe the condition of the front end, it's pretty bad.
  2. Ahh, looks the same! I couldn't tell ya one from the other unless I was told which was what. I can't keep up with the newer stuff. It's all so different ... that it all looks the same.
  3. I'll live vicariously through my buddy ... lol. Just got his 700 RWHP '10 Camaro out of storage. He threw some fancy rocker panel covers and front valance pieces on her today. Looks alot better than the factory stuff. Dying to go for a ride in this thing again. The acceleration feels like the Space Shuttle ... if I could imagine what that felt like.
  4. Got my oil analysis back. The trend confirms my engine's decline began a couple years ago. 90k miles! THANKS GM! Nice F#%&ing job on that one!! The wear metals tell me it's more than likely the cam bearings - been seeing alot of those types of failures in these AFM engines across the net. Also piston rings add to the iron content, and pistons to the aluminum. Seems the aluminum content has gone down since I switched to 10w-30. Was high on my first analysis. Glad I didn't use this thing to commute the entire 10 years I've owned it - would've needed an engine back in 2011!
  5. I'll let you know when my AFM lifters fail. Luckily I haven't put a wrench on the engine yet, aside from changing the spark plugs, intake, and PVC catch can install. Hopefully it stays that way ... but history of the LMG shows my chances of that are slim to none.
  6. Yeah, it could've stuck. Doesn't happen often, but definitely can happen. Hopefully you caught it soon enough that your head gaskets are still intact. Sounds like you probably did, since it wasn't under a load, and just idling.
  7. I thought that was the result of the broiling temps? So your saying the hose failed and CAUSED the temp to go sky high? If so, I misread. Great idea from GM to use plastic- fantastic ...
  8. Wow, she was broiling! Might be as simple as a leaky coolant cap - if the system can't hold pressure, there's no way it'll keep coolant inside her at anything above 212°F. I've watched my '72 El Camino's mechanical temp gauge swing to 260° once in a McD's drive-thru in Phoenix. Didn't miss a beat, but I had just installed a new Stant Lev-R-Vent cap at the time. Pressure raises the boiling point significantly. I believe it's 10° for every 1 PSI if memory serves correctly ...
  9. I don't think that little of an amount is going to make any seals blow. As long as the vent is clear, clean, and not kinked, it'll be fine.
  10. Ahh, 10-4. Thought the block was the same right from the beginning. Shows what I know. Par for the course today - seems GM can't keep anything the same anymore, even year to year. I'll take the 350 any day - at least I know when I grab a part for that one, it will fit. That one used the same parts for over 30 years.
  11. I thought all the LS engines took the same filter? My buddy's 6.2 in his '10 Camaro takes the same filter as my 5.3 in the '07. 15k50 If I remember right. Shots of Rumple before the oil change? I'm game.
  12. AWESOME pics Jay! I miss being out West. Love it out there. It's 180° from this hellhole ... Finally got my cases of 10w-30 in. Changed the oil, took the sample, and packaged it all up for shipment. What a pain in the ass just shipping a damn oil sample. 1st time I ever sent one, the lady at the post office freaked out ... "That's hazardous waste!" ...... OMG are you f'ing serious??? Now I just wrap the container up and lie when I drop it off. "Nope! No liquid in here!" I'd have a better chance of hitting the lottery than having that sample spill inside 3 separate containers, a layer of plastic, PLUS absorbent material. People have lost all common sense today. Society is mentally ill ... Anyway, at least the oil change is done. All set until 2019 now. ChevyGuy, I was all excited after getting 31k miles out of my OE Bridgestone Dueller A/Ts. That's the most miles I've EVER got out of a set of tires in my entire driving life.
  13. Ahh, misinterpreted what you were saying. Yeah, definitely want to keep it apples to apples, for sure.
  14. You should be able to get the full range of viscosities in Sig. Series, except for 10w-40 & 20w-50. I remember when Sig.Series first came out, 0w-30 was the only one available, but now they've got quite a few to choose from: http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/motor-oil/gasoline/
  15. Nice - let us know what you find. I'm a dealer too - run Sig. Series in the Silverado and Volvo. The Marquis leaks too much to be cost effective, although the timing chain/cover job may have decreased it's oil usage - we'll see. I would've sent in an analysis tomorrow for the truck, but I got home today and forgot I had sold the last of my case of 10w-30 a couple weeks ago. Guess I'll have to put a few more miles on it. Doubt I have even 5k miles on this oil, but it's been in there since December of 2015.
  16. I went from 5w-30 to a 10w-30 at around 77k miles. My oil analysis showed far less aluminum and iron (piston and rings) afterward. 0w-20 is like water. It's a wonder the engines last as long as they do. I'd go to a 5w-30 personally, or even a 10w-30 since you're in CA. Synthetic will still flow good.
  17. That's how that Mustang is. It's fine at any other RPM ... but as soon as it's at around 2,800 or so - which happens to be right were it is 99% of the time, due to the speed limits around here - you can't even hear yourself think. Putting the Corsa on my Silverado back in '07 was the best thing I ever did. Was a ton of money, but it's already paid for itself at least a couple times over the past 10 years. Plus the thing can't hardly be heard in the cab, unless you've got your foot into it pretty good. Was well worth the money.
  18. I always tell my buddy that has Flowmasters on his Mustang: "Flowmaster is Indian for DRONE". Those things will cave your skull in at 2,800 rpm ...
  19. I remember watching a tractor trailer come down a 12% grade on some back highway out in AZ - thought the trailer brakes were going to catch fire. Never seen so much smoke in my life! Billowing clouds. Stunk like hell too! Luckily he got to the bottom before they got hot enough to ignite the grease. Another half mile and there would've been fire, guaranteed!
  20. Yeah I've got several friends that got pinched in VA, and had to go all the way back down for a court appearance. It's well known up here not to speed through that state, or anywhere on 95 if I'm honest. It'll cost ya! Everything up here is a gray area. Cops pretty much do what they want. He easily could've towed me and made my life miserable, and wrote the ticket as a criminal offense. Had I been 16 years old, that would've happened, no question about it. They're tough on kids up here. I've got a 2 page record from my teens and early 20's - used to get 4-5 tickets every year back then. I've been around long enough to know how the game is played - treat them with respect, don't lie, and everything will be ok ... aside from your bank account ... so long as you weren't weaving all over like a jackass, tailgating, cutting people off, and endangering everyone around you. These days when everyone is doing 80, 100 isn't passing them all that fast anymore. The $350 ticket isn't the worst of it. It's the 6-year surcharge on your insurance that'll hurt ya. This ticket will cost me around $2,500 when all is said and done.
  21. Got a ticket in the truck. 35 over. Ooops. That one's gonna cost me ...
  22. Thing looks better than my '07 ... and mine has been a garage queen for 10 years!
  23. I swear I was in a spot in AZ that looked exactly like that on a motorcycle ride once - nearly the same bridge design and dam (although smaller). Been 17 or more years, so having trouble remembering where exactly it was ... Gotta love the West. Everything looks amazing in every direction.
  24. I've got a pair of compressors in mine - I could just buy a horn and plumb it up. Got me thinking now ... Right now I've got a set of 4 horns out of a '74 Riviera. Always loved the sound of the old GM 4-note horns. Found them off eBay a few years back.
  25. ^^^ ..."An error occurred" ... When I first got my license I had a '88 S15 nearly brand new. I bought an air horn off JC Whitney for $107 - that was a pile of dough at the time! Came with a vacuum-operated air pump - whenever the pressure got low, you'd hear the thing clicking away under the hood. Downside was a LONG fill time - if I was out having fun with it, it would take about 5 minutes to build pressure again. Was rated at 131 decibels - was pretty much the same horn TT units used. Had a lanyard and everything. Had alot of fun with people cutting me off, or pulling out i front of me ... or, just walking down the street - the look of horror on their faces when they heard that thing was priceless. That truck was so ridiculous looking - I'm trying to remember WTF I was thinking ...
