I am currently in the market for a camper and I am wondering how much weight I can tow. I have 2019 Silverado 1500 RST 5.3 V8 crew cab short bed. From what I can find online I should be “okay”, but really wanted some feedback from those of you that have a similar setup. I am aware the 2500 is the ideal setup, but that will be down the line a bit for me. Truck Trailering Info: GVWR 7100lbs GCWR 15000lbs GAWR RR 3800lbs Max Payload 1819lbs Max Tongue Weight 960lbs Curb Weight 5281lbs The camper I am looking at has a dry weight of 6300lbs and GVWR of 9,480lbs (no intent to load our camper down or travel with full tanks). Hitch weight of the camper is 680lbs. 32’ 11” tongue to bumper. Really only looking at going camping within 100 miles on the weekends. We typically travel light with basic necessities for hook up campgrounds (clothes, food, chairs). any help would be great!

I'm currently looking at these mirrors for an 07 GMC 2500HD Classic here: http://monsterautoparts.com/GMC/SIERRA/gmc_sierra_towing_mirrors_telescopic.htm Item1339-0010B because its the pair. They're exactly what I want: Power mirror, heated and turn signal BUT its manual telescoping. Is there any place I can get all that with power telescoping? I'm kind of at a loss of where to look since the ones I had bookmarked seem to have gone missing. I just have standard mirrors now so the next question I'm asking is, what else does it seem I would need to install these? Am I just not looking hard enough to find other options? I went to a local GM dealer and they're guy said GM had discontinued the OEM ones.

Hello everyone! I just recently purchased a 2021 Sierra 1500 3.0L which will mainly be used to tow my center console around to local lakes and to Florida a couple times a year. I did NOT get the max trailering package mainly due to a mix up and having to switch trucks because someone purchased the one I went to look at and I didn't notice (yeah). My boat is a 24' center console and weights about 2500lbs, plus around 800lbs for the engine, around 800lbs for fuel (105gal tank) and the trailer. My best guess is between 4,500-5,500lbs. When towing to Florida the rear end sagged quit a bit. I picked up some Airlift 5000 air bags and compressor hoping this will resolve the sagging but now I am wondering if it will help at all. We used to tow with a 2018 Tahoe that had the max trailering package so it had air bags on it already. To be completely honest, I do not know exactly what the 9.76" rear axle and 3.42 axle ratio in the max trailering package will help which is what comes in the max trailering package. I know it has heavy-duty rear springs as well which I figure would of helped with this sagging. Will I be creating problems with the air bags? Obviously I don't really want to trade in the truck already for a new one due to the lost money on having to pay taxes twice, not to mention the loss in value from having 2,000 miles on it already.

So the Chevrolet owners manual says to not tow a 4 x 4 vehicle with a single speed transfer case with “any“ wheels on the ground. It says to use a flatbed tow truck only. I will always do what Chevy says, as to not void my warranty. But, I can’t conceptually understand in my brain why I can’t tow my truck in 2-wheel drive with the rear wheels lifted off the ground and the front wheels on the pavement rolling. As long as my four-wheel-drive is not engaged, why would my front wheels do any damage to the vehicle? From my understanding, when the vehicle is in 2 Wheel Dr., the front differential is disconnected from the transfer case and front drive train. Why would this cause damage? inversely, couldn’t I disconnect the rear drive shaft and tow it with the rear wheels only on the ground? just seems weird that Chevy says “no“ to absolutely any options with towing with wheels on the ground. I mean, how the hell do they expect me to get it on a flatbed tow truck without “pulling it with wheels on the ground”. Just a thought. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Single speed transfer case linkage/ 4-wheel drive system can advise.

I'm confused about what trucks are good for towing. Is there a BASIC summary of whether a 1/2, 3/4 1 ton etc is good for towing as to what limit is the GVWR of each rated truck. I know there are other factors to consider. I'm looking for just a basic starting point if there is such a thing. I want to tow around either a TT or 5th wheel between 26 to 30 ft. Of course different weight ratings. Example what is the maximum tow for a 3/4 ton. Ideally, get more truck than needed. Should I start looking at a 3/4 ton and then a 1 ton? What is the max that a 1/2 ton should even be considered. I'm looking to actually live in my RV full time for a year and maybe much longer. Being semi retired, I want some time off from a land based stick and stone structure and explore this great country. I'd like to buy used. What years and models should I avoid for towing? I don't want this to be a bad mouth GM or Chevy trucks. I'm asking for a reliable truck or even a SUV . I'm taking my 3 small dogs with. Long story, she is divorcing to find herself or some bleep. And I will not abandoned these dogs we have had for the last 10 plus years as she will do. So.... I want time away, and just some time exploring. Any help of truck to choose would be fantastic.

I recently installed some aftermarket Tor mirrors on an 03 and the glass vibrates/shakes when driving on normal roads and on the highway. I was thinking about putting some left over Sound deadening on the back of the glass, as a way to mass load them to slow the shaking. I don't really mind the shaking too much but if I already have something that will help with it, it's worth a shot!? What are your thought about this?

I know the 6112s are semi-new to the community. My question is what would be the lowest possible notch I can install these and still have enough clearance to fit 275X 65R 20 KO2s. I’d imagine the notch settings are similar to the 5100s accept there is 1 extra notch I believe. I have been searching online for the past week and cannot find anyone that confirms the lowest possible setting to fit these tires. I know I can install them at the highest setting and fit just fine, But I am trying to keep rake in the rear due to occasional towing and i do not want to add a leveling block to the rears. I was thinking the third notch (1.25” of lift) would work but I’m not sure if It will get rubbing. Does anyone have any idea on this? I currently have a 2.5 inch leveling spacer but do not want to install it when I switch to the Bilstein 6112s. Thanks!

I have a set of Trail Ridge tow mirrors for 2014+ for sale (Power adjust, heated, turn signal). They are in great shape and everything works, No scratches. Only had these on my truck for about 6 months, however decided I liked the smaller regular color matched dl8 mirrors I originally had and went back to them. Asking $150.

Hey All, New to the forum. Few questions. There is a truck I am interested in and unfortunately I cannot rely on the sales person. Here are the build details from the sticker. What I am curious about is, is this trailering package also known as the "Max Towing Package" ? Reason I ask is the hitch is a GM V-5 which is rated at 12,000/1,200. The owners manual also says the following... 1500 4x4 crew cab short bed 5.3L V8 - 3.42 - MTW 9,100 - GCWR 15,000 5.3L V8 with 8-speed Auto and Enhanced Towing package - 3.42 - MTW 10,700 - GCWR 16,700 5.3L V8 - 3.73 - MTW 10,700 - GCWR 16,700 What I am ultimately trying to do is figure out what this truck will ultimately haul and what its max towing capacity will be. I cannot tell by the build. So I would appreciate any insight/info. The manual says a few things, the door jam says another, and I want to be sure. Build details 2018 - 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 - Z71 - short bed All star package 18" P265/65R18 allterrain, blackwall tires 3.42 rear axle ratio (But not sure if this one has 3.73 due to the trailering package. Hi guys, first time poster here. If I'm in the wrong section mods please let me know! About 2 weeks ago I bought a 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ 4x4, used with 12k miles. It has the tow package. I absolutely love the truck, it's great, and other Chevy owners seem super nice so far! My Chevy has all the features of the tow package, including the chrome grille, trailer brake, pre-installed hitch, etc. but instead of the tow mirrors it has regular mirrors. Based on my research they are the "DL3" mirrors (heated, auto folding, etc.) but further research tells me that it should be pretty hard to install DL3 mirrors and make them fully functional if they didn't come on the truck since the wiring harness interacts with the memory functions of the seats etc... This makes me wonder where my tow mirrors went, and what's up with the OEM DL3 mirrors being there instead? Did the factory offer a towing package with regular mirrors at some point in order to "exhaust" their parts bin as they prepared for the 2019 Models, or did the previous owner really go to such extreme lengths to remove the tow mirrors? I've attached a picture to illustrate what I mean. Any input is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hello How it going? I wanted post and ask some questions as along the way and see if I am crazy enough to upgrade and discuss about modifying a stock GMC 2016 4x4 2500HD 6.0L Gas suspension system. The truck needed a nice smooth riding stability control system on it's suspension system and along it needed to takes more weight load carrying capacity controls from major loads when towing big loads from over hauling trailers. Plus even on it's no-loads capacity as well when you need to drive on a everyday needs in all conditions from all driving ability and keep safe from going out of control from all major issues on the roads conditions on a stock 2500HD/3500HD, I can tell things are getting out of control as conditions are getting worsts beyond our controls when dealing with a stock HD trucks suspension system on a bad roads conditions. Anyway I wanted to upgrade this truck to improve the truck without spending to much money but enough for the truck to drive better than possible so here some ideas and list of parts of modifications that I have studied and thought about thought I post something asked and shared and discuss as asking some ideas for some upgrades. Thanks for helping guys as I need some helps. So far I already installed a rear Hellwig Big Wig Sway bar the model # is 7270 and have it on the medium setting on the links holes for the sway bars as it on the #2 holes. The center hole is considered is medium setting. The far out as #1 hole is the lose setting and far back to the axle #3 hole is tighter setting for the sway bar settings. And I have to say I already feel a huge improvements to the rear suspension by adding a rear sway bar. I can tell by it does prevents the waving as rocking side to side when driving into a drive ways or pulling into a intersections or running over pot holes or curbs or jumping over a railways or hills and some major improvements on things like those quadruple humps and ripples as dips on the road that make your whole truck shake everywhere and wobbling back and forth from going over on those melted asphalt from the roads and highways as it swerves out of control at a high speed and including hauling something that makes it bounce everywhere even to lose control on a empty bed. Plus the improvements over driving into by turning fast and pilling out or in front of the traffic as keeping the truck lock down on the road to pull in and it enforce it from leaning over, keeping the truck from waving over as swerving out of control from rocking by it side. And the sway bar does improve towing. It help you to control your trailer from losing out of control from a dodge moments on cars and winds and other moments to prevent your trailer from wobbling on a highways. Keep the back end stable as twisting the roll body of the truck especially pillingout on a burn out. it been been lot of flooding in Texas lately and I need to spray paint it black and painted the u bolts as well as keeping it from rusting including the axle drive staff joint. Rust is a disease to metal. I only have this 3 months of use of this Hellwig and this truck has 9,786 miles on it. Now the questions is do I needed to go ahead and buy the front sway bar? And put a bigger heavier duty links as well that hooks on to the front sway bars? I don't know what size the is the original stock front sway bars as in inches from as American scale, so far, I founded out the size it is 1.250 of a inch? Is that 1 inch and 3/8 in size? or is that 1 and half of a inch? And the links that came with the truck looks little poor. Looks like it needed to be on a 1500 models trucks and asking for a bigger set of links to control the front of the sway bars on the 2500HD front end suspension. But anyway the Hellwig has a 1 and 1/2 of a inch in thickness of the sway bar and if the the truck stock sway bars is the same size then I don't need to get it it be a waste of money by having the same size bars. I don't know if that make anything big of a different but maybe it will in tightness of a sway bars as for front suspension system if it little bigger right? Anyway here are the list of the modifications upgrades for the suspension system packages that are listed for a smooth ride with major medium payloads capability. Feel free to post some idea of some more modifications suspension system for a stock GMC /Chevy 4x4 2500HD / 3500HD 2014 to 2019. Hellwig Rear Sway Bar 7270.......Weight: 8,000lbs Hellwig Front Sway Bar 7716......Weight: 5,000lbs Hellwig Leaf Helper Springs Stabilizer LP-3512.....Weight: 3500lbs Leaf Spring Shocks Absorbed Sulastic Shackle For Axle SA-06...Non-affect load carrying capacity BDS NX2 Single Steering Stabilizer with Mounting Bracket Kit.....Get Boot Cover Protection PPE Stage 3 Tie Rod Assemblies #158031511.....Has Larger Ball Joints and Staff SuperSpring Front Sumo Spring SSF-202-54......Weight: 2000lbs SuperSpring Rear Sumo Spring SSR-203-40-2....Weight: 2600lbs Max at 80% 3000lbs G2 GM 10.5" 14 Bolt Rear Brute Ball Milled Aluminum Differential Axle Cover.....Amsoil 95W-140 Gear Oil Fox Shocks 2.5 Reservoir Front and Rear. These are my upgrades for a medium high performance stabilizer for the truck suspension system modifications. As for tires and rims I would love to have a 20 inch rims with 285/65/20 tires Or 18 inch rims with 285/70/18 tires one day. This should improves the overalls of the trucks capability right? Dream engine on this truck is LS1 427 32V 6.2L 25MPG on this 2500HD 4.10 gear ratio with the twin as y air filter intake system with dual exhaust .... Goals <3.. I wish I could afford this and to put a 8 speed tranny on it.

Ok I have a question on the 6.2L Max Tow Package half ton trucks. I know they came with the upgraded rear end at 9.76" gear ring and 3.42 gear ratio. So knowing the front has to be 3.42, what size ring gear is in the front in the IFS housing? Also has anyone ever changed out the front IFS to say oh a Spidertrax 9" or a Currie 9"? And even a swap for the rear as well. Buying the 6.2 max tow package for a undisclosed reason so thats why Im needing to know the front specs if anyone has any info on it. Thanks in advance. OH also if you have any pics as well that would be great to.

what do you guys think? I installed a reman transmission on my 2013 gmc 2500 hd. My tow haul and manual shift does not work now. The orange wire is not the problem i have another truck same model i swapped the tow haul lever over from. Before i swapped i verified my donor trucks tow haul lever worked and installed it on my problem truck just to be sure. I know my manual shift worked prior to the transmission installation because the only way i could drive it was manually shifting 1-3. could this be an internal issue with the transmission or tcm? I do have a tpms light on and traction control light on. Considering the manual shift worked before i wouldnt guess this was the problem, but after the transmission installation i swapped over the tire and rims from my donor truck onto my problem truck.

Long and short of it.... Sold my Ram 3500 for a Sierra 1500 and I had just bought a B&W Tow and Stow hitch Class V for 2 1/2 in receiver with 7 1/2 in drop/rise and 3 way ball in January. Only used it one time when I moved from Whidbey Island to Idaho in Feb. I did not plan on selling the dually but things happen. If anyone is in a similar situation where they have a Class IV but need a Class V and want a swap, let me know.... Thanks Greg

As stated in the title, has anyone either painted or powder-coated their front Tow Hooks? I just had all my Chrome done Satin Black and now these hooks are MUCH more visible to me than they were before... I also thought I had read somewhere (but couldn't find again when I searched) that the Tow Hooks are quite a PITA to remove on the GMC Sierra/Sierra Denali... can anyone confirm if this is the case?? Thanks!

Newer user to this forum, though I have been on others in the past... I am getting different opinions from different family and friends- many seem to contradict each other. So I thought I would ask this community for thoughts. The wife and I have recently purchased, used from friends, a new camper. The camper is a 30 foot Coachman Catalina (1997). The book weight of this trailer says 5,100lbs and includes trailer brakes. I am planning to haul with my 2012 GMC Sierra 1500. Specs on the truck include; 4x4, crew cab, max trailer package (5.3 KDL HD Cooling Package, trailer brake harness, 3.42 ratio). I have installed the Tekonsha P3 brake controller and am planning to use a weight distributing hitch with sway control. I am currently leaning toward the Camco Recurve R6 hitch to meet both these needs (receiver hitch is rated to 1,100lbs with WD hitch). The truck manual max trailer weight states 9,500lbs with a GCWR of 15,000lbs (truck GVWR 7,000lbs). I do understand the balancing required between truck and trailer for GCWR; if truck fully loaded is 5,500lbs and tongue weight is 1,000 pounds the max trailer becomes 8,500 pounds not the book stated 9,500. So, with this info I have some friends stating that this will fall well within the limits of the truck. And others stating that I need at minimum a 3/4 ton truck to haul this camper. Based on the info I have been able to collect I feel like I should be just fine with this trailer and truck combination... Yes it will be heavy, but not reaching the max weights- or even coming close (I am estimating 7,000lbs trailer fully loaded). And with trailer brakes and a quality proportional brake control I feel confident in stopping power. *I guess my analogy/thought is this; if I am mowing a 1/4 acre lawn, sure a riding mower would be great, but a push mower will get the job done just fine and without any difficulty. Am I right in thinking that while a 3/4 ton truck would be easier, my 1/2 ton will get the job done just fine?

Hello everyone! I have just successfully upgraded from standard DL8 mirrors(heated and power adjust), to aftermarket tow mirrors from eBay. My truck is a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Double Cab, Standard Box After much thinking about whether I really wanted to go with the look of tow mirrors and also how I would make it work knowing that they wouldn't be plug and play, I bit the bullet. I looked all around for some tow mirrors that I would be happy with. I found multiple listings on eBay for a really low price ranging from $195-220. I picked out a set that had a blacked out clearance light as I don't like the orange lense. I will put the listing below. In addition to finding the mirrors I wanted, I also had been reading up on the forum of how I wanted to make it work. I came across a member(pgamboa) who has been helping the community by making and selling a harness that allows people to convert from the standard DL8 mirrors to the fancy DL3 setup. His harness makes the conversion plug and play for the new mirrors. Knowing his harness was for non-tow mirrors, I reached out to him and asked about making one to work with tow mirrors. He took it upon himself to make a harness to work for me even though he doesn't have actual tow mirrors to test. After fast shipment, I had received the new harnesses and I swapped them with my old ones which he will give money back to you for sending back to him. Since I had the door panel off in order to install the new harness, I went ahead and installed a product called "fatmat"(similar to dynamat) to quiet up my ride and improve my speaker sound. Anyway, I replaced my harnesses even though I hadn't yet gotten my tow mirrors delivered yet. My plan was to leave my stock mirrors on until I had my tow mirror in and I planned on getting the chrome caps on them color matched to my truck. Once the mirrors arrived, I popped the chrome caps off and stripped the chrome using muriatic acid. This works very well to completely strip chrome plating on plastic, and it does it in a matter of hours. While stripping the chrome, I decided I better plug them in to test them out. To my disappointment, only the turn signal and power adjust worked. The courtesy lights and clearance lights did not work. I contacted pgamboa again and got his input. We diagnosed the issue to be in my trucks X500 door harness connector. It was missing 2 pins necessary for the courtesy lights and clearance lights to get signal. His harness was pinned for them but my truck was not. To remedy this issue, he sent me a set of wires for both the passenger and driver side connectors. Once I received them, I used his instructions and guidance to insert the wires into the necessary slots to make the connections needed. During this process I had my mirror caps all stripped and taken into my local Chevy dealership to have them color match paint the caps. Finally I got the caps popped back on and the mirrors installed on the truck and I am extremely happy with the look and result. A huge thanks to member "pgamboa"!! He is a great community member and he is always around the forum helping others. He took me on as a customer and helped me through every step of the way. He has put numerous man hours into his research for these harness and just in helping me getting my mirrors working and functioning. I can't thank him enough for the help and highly recommend him for anyone needing help with a tow mirror conversion or the regular DL8 to DL3 conversion. pgamboa's harness topic- http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/196569-fs2014-silveradosierra-custom-plug-and-play-harness-for-dl8-to-dl3/ Tow mirror topic- http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/164349-201415-hd-powerfold-oem-tow-mirrors-the-ones-weve-been-waiting/ eBay Tow mirrors - http://www.ebay.com/itm/232168806348?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT *These mirrors have; LED clearance lights, LED Courtesy/Cargo, LED Turn signals, Heated, and Power adjust. Hello- I'm new here to this forum and I hope this is the correct place to post this item. I just purchased a new 2500 HD Silverado to replace my '02 model. It has the black trailering mirrors. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to put the chrome cap on the top and bottom of these mirrors or if I would need to look into replacing the entire assembly (spendy). Seems like it should be possible but I can't seem to find any information. Thanks in advance, Brian

I am at a complete loss on how to do this. 2009 Tahoe. I need to get the tow hooks off to install the brackets for a Ranch Hand bumper. I can not get the the tow hooks off. The passenger side has the one bolt that I can not get to in any way, and even if I could, the nut securing it is inside the frame behind the tow hook. Same goes for the other side, can't get to the nut on the front left side of the frame. I have breaker bars, socket sets, etc, but no impact. No tutorials on youtube, can't find anything here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
