Shake or Vibration Issues
14SLTZ71 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
It's back, this didn't last very long, last night on my way home I got my full blown vibration back in my floorboards and accelerator pedal. Oh well, it seemed to work for a few days anyway. I am tired of this crap, I hope when I get my 2015 it doesn't develope any shakes or vibrations. It's very freak'n annoying........ -
Shake or Vibration Issues

And why does a shake have to be intermittent, who told you this and why do you find the need to run around to all the threads related to the shake/vibration problem and say this. A shake is intermittent, really, that's the criteria to be considered a shake? So it's not possible to have a continuous shake? So if I pick something up and start shaking it and never stop, it becomes something other than a shake? Wow...... -

There are different versions of the vibration / shake that people are experiencing. Some have violent shakes, some have moderate shakes, some have a vibration that runs through the entire floorboard and the accelerator pedal, and some have both a shake and a vibration. If your truck is shaking like some of the videos I've seen then you are probably correct, it's not the transmission, but who knows at this point. The people who designed and engineered the vehicle can't even figure it out or they have figure it out and are acting stupid so they don't have to pay to fix everybody's truck. Edit: if your passenger seat is shaking violently, I would consider that a shake not a vibration. But then again, a shake could cause vibrations and a vibration could cause a shake. But what do I know, I am just another Dummy like everybody else. -
It would be nice if Borla would sell just the front pipe with the valve, but that's not happening, I already asked them. Edit: they would probably want too much for it anyways. I think GM owns the rights to the valve or something like that.

There is a guy on ebay that sells exhaust adaptive valves. If you scroll through the pics there's one with the part number stamped on it. It's a different number than the Borla valve though.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vehicle-Adaptive-Exhaust-Valve-/230981317711

Shake or Vibration Issues

No, stay out of drive. Start out with gear selector in M4 Edit: the tranny will shift thru gears 1-4 only. if you get above 60MPH you should probably up shift to M5 or M6. Edit: on my way home tonight I still felt alittle vibration until the truck got to operating temp and then it went away. 60 mph may be a bit high for M4 so now I will try to stay at or below 55 mph. -

Silver Spaceship is the original poster of this thread, I am pretty sure he has been reading everything. I have been driving mine around in M4 (not M5) and man what a difference, no vibration, I am trying everything to feel the vibration but theres nothing. I keep it in M4 at 60MPH and below, RPMs are around 2200 so shitty gas mileage but the truck feels great. Man if this thing drove like this all the time I would have nothing to complain about. No delayed throttle response, no miss shifts (goofy shifting) and no vibration in my feet. I think the transmission is definetly the problem with my truck. -

If you do a poll remember that some people have a vibration but don't have a shake. My truck has a horrible vibration in my floorboards and accelerator pedal almost all the time but I only have the shake for about the first 1/2 to 1 mile after sitting for awhile and then it goes away. Just a thought, it's your poll do it the way you want though. Edit: if you are unsuccessful PM me and I will attempt to setup a poll thread tomorrow. -

Yeah, they would probably like to mock GM a little over this but are probably afraid of the possiblity of repercussions some time down the road. -

Could you image if ford, ram, nissan, or toyota started exploiting this in a commercial. Unlike the ________ our trucks don't vibrate or shake and in the event that they do, we don't call it normal!! -

Carpet in wheel wells?

It's a good marketing strategy to get away from the Dodge truck voodoo, juju, or whatever it's called. Give it another 7 - 10 years and people will be saying "Dodge, what Dodge? What are you talking about? It's not a Dodge, never has been a Dodge! Dodge gave up building trucks along time ago! It's a Ram." Edit: not only saying it but actually believing it. -

I guess they are making enough money on them that they don't care. We just see what people on this forum are doing. Imagine the other 100rds of thousand people who will never complain about it, or hardly ever bring their vehicle to a dealership except for breakdowns and oil changes. -

When the DMA did my offer he gave me the difference between the current trade in value (not what's in a book but what a dealership would actually give me) and the amount I paid. I didn't ask for anything, I was about to trade it in on a ford or dodge and then I got the call so I didn't even hesitate, got nothing to lose except time. If my 2015 ends up having the same issues, it's going bye bye and will sit on a ford, dodge, toyota, or nissan lot. Edit: my patients is already worn about as thin as it can................... -

Shake or Vibration Issues

Was it the District Manager After-Sales or the Dealership Manager of sales? If you talked directly to the person, it probably wasn't the DMA. Usually you have to go thru the service manager to get to the DMA and normally you don't get to personally communicate with this person. They don't want a million people contacting them all the time, so their contact info is usually not passed out to customers. -

I didn't pay 10K under MSRP, I paid $46000 so that's a $6000 loss and the truck only has 5000 miles on it. Either way it shows you that the markup on these trucks is ridiculous. Oh by the way try getting a dealer to offer $40000 trade in for your truck. With all the incentives and truck month you can probably buy a 14 like mine new for around $42000 right now. -

These trucks drop in value real quick. My MSRP was $51665 and the current KBB with 4900 miles is from $39000 - $41000. -

Since the GM tech was so certain that this would fix your shake/vibration that tells me that GM is aware and knows how to fix at least one of the 3 different vibration/shake issues. So that being said, GM should spread the news to all of it's dealership service departments so that anybody with the same symptoms as you had can walk into the service department, tell them their sypmtoms, get them to duplicate and get this rear end ordered. -
The lower strut spacer not being metal is no problem they have been doing that for years. You probably don't want the spacer to be metal if you have aluminum control arms anyways. It is more difficult to install a spacer on top of the strut then the bottom. As for the bolts hitting the CV shaft, no problem, just do like I did below. "I had the same issue, one of the bolts would hit the CV shaft if I installed it with the head of the bolt on the bottom per the instructions from Rough Country. With the upper ball joint and steering linkage ball joint disconnected I was able to tilt the hub assembly enough to get the CV shaft out of the way and then put the bolts in with the head on the top side and nuts on the bottom. Here are some pics.

I think # 5 is causing issues in some of these trucks, mine included. -
5.3L Idle Vibration/Rough Idle Surge

Vibrating at idle definetly is not normal. That's probably the only issue I currently don't have with my 14. -
Since you are in Texas you could also go see Kirk Robinson at Kinney's Muffler Shop. Here is 3 examples of his work. http://www.kinneysmufflershop.com/kinneysmufflershop.com/HOME.html Here's a 2014 GMC Sierra

I haven't installed one but it comes with the same valve that your factory exhaust has. It should be 100% drone free. I haven't heard anyone complain about the GM Borla kit (GMPP exhaust). Reach out to Strykers_Inc, Daniel T, or Trwtow they have had theirs long enough to give you a good assessment. Here is a link to their posts. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155832-2014-exhaust-systems-mufflers/?p=1483506 http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155832-2014-exhaust-systems-mufflers/?p=1500124 http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155832-2014-exhaust-systems-mufflers/?p=1489527

I might just keep it factory quiet. I hope my 15 is problem free because this 14 has got me worn out.
