I guess its just a preference then. I like it on mine and would never delete it. I use it regularly on trips for extra mileage. Not sure bout the oil consumption as I been driving a truck without AFM for bout 4 years. Im pretty sure that I could get better mileage with it than without but thats just me.
-
No the truck will not heat up over a mountain towing. Only time it is heating is at WOT from a dead stop and it started heating around 120-130. Towing is not an issue. I personally tow in the mountains alot and that is what my tune will help but a good tune is a good tune whether towing racibg or cruising but this thing pulls like a train factory so a tune only helps that.

Lol and I apologize if mine cane off wrong. I have a habit of using !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ill try to resist the urge next time. I knew you werent questioning ability but Im not sure anyone has spent that kinda time on one yet. I think alot of peeps(not you icry) on here dont realize the tuning proccess and how a tuner can just take literally like 15 minutes and flash your computer and make it feel pretty good in the seat of the pants!! But the extra time ALWYS yields more and better results!! If we would have spent another hour on it we would have learned even more!! Please pick your tuners wisely!!! Make sure they have alot of race inspired experience and know what it takes. Now the guys that tune themselves I say to you when you decide to void your warranty and tune it then put alot of man hour into it and do alot of logging and driving. These things are super sharp and will do whatever you tell them to do as long as you cover all your files. We are gonna go back over the tune after I drive it and watch and feel the trans reactions to our settings. Like I said tho the 5.3 acts a little different too and has alot of different numbers than the 6.2 does. Way different than last years trucks.
-
Why are some of you disabling AFM? This doesnt make any sense to me.
-
Are you really asking if we fine tuned it? We spent over 4 hours on this thing and 15 gallons of gas driving and flashing! When we tune for customers the trucks have to act stock to please them then if they wanna go its gotta go so everything we do is fine tuned and with wideband!!! We treat a stock vehicle like it has 1000 HP so while doing a 1000 hp car we wont be slacking!! Not bn a smartass just sying. The most power felt in the butt meter for the night was when going from 12.4 to 13.0 in AFR. This really woke the truck up!! S far as timing we shot for 22 as a happy number and a couple adders got it up to 23-24 with no KR!! Put some time into your trans tunes!!! Esp if this is voiding your warranty!! The 6.2 trans files are nothing like the 5.3s. The convertor files are alot different too. My truck has nearly 10,000 miles I think.
-
Tuned MAF yes and used wideband yes and yes we played with fan settings alot nothing changed the heating issue but we gotta play a little more to find out. Stock timing was around 17-18 sometimes 20

No it heated up from factory just didnt show it on temp gauge! It never showed hotter than 220 it got 237 on one really long back to back run!! But its crazy how it cools off sooooo fast!! Just a second its back to 200
-
Stock tune wasnt too bad either! Timing wasnt that great but afr was 12.1 factory and gm is usually like 10.2 rich!! Truck responded great!! Really picked up throttle response and pulls all way to 6400 and shifts great!! This is with 22" wheels now you have to remember so with some light weight 17" its gonna fly!!! Had very little KR and loved 22-24 degrees of timing! Only thing is it heats terribly bad on long pulls like to 120 it will get up to 230 degrees! Never did figure out why either!! Trans never got over 205 but when coolant would heat up it would cool down faster than it heated up!! Crazy to me!
-
Spent over 4hrs tuning truck tonight!!! Wow I love my truck!! Pulls to 6400rpms now. I fig it would quit pulln around 6 but its still pulln strong. Ill post a 0-100 video in a bit if mods will allow it!

Well I knew the intake and exhaust manifolds would be different just wasnt sure about valvetrain parts.

Karnut. Seriously I cant really just put a number on it because of the amount of responce you get in your throttle!!! If you put it on a dyno the peak numbers will or could have up to 25-30 gains but the numbers across the board are a substantial increase because of trq mangnmt. Forgetting about dyno numbers all together you will lose that lazy pedal feeling and if you drive aggressive at all you will se a increase in MPG under a load and aggressive driving. These trucks are like 10.0 rich on AFR when under heavy throttle and into your power enrichment table because they poor the fuel in. So after a good tune that leans it out to like 12.8 or so you will not use as much gas during spirited driving. A good custom tune is by far the best mod for the money IMOP. Seat of the pants feel is unreal. Just imagine a tune in a handheld that works on every truck thats your trucks model being a 50 out of a 100 score tune. Then the custom tune if done correctly is the 100% tune thats only for your truck. If a handheld can be felt with the butt meter then imagine what a custom tune feels like. Crisp shifts, holding gear longer, no more hunting gears, all your power moves to throttle tip in!! Instant power not held back till middle of RPMs then pulled out again before you shift and then walked back in again to do the same on the next shift. Hope that helps. Get on youtube and look at some new camaros before and after tune dyno numbers and watch the trq curves sometimes its possible to see 80ftlbs of trq gain down low in RPMs because of throttle response. Dont look at peak numbers look at whole curves.

Custom custom custom!!!!! Let a tuner tune it while driving it!! Every truck is different!! Custom custom custom!!! Going back to stock will profit you nothing nowadays. You tune it your gonna get busted. Get a tune done for your truck only not one that will work in 50000 trucks as a flash program. Its worth the extra money and alotta times cheaper than a handheld. If custom isnt an option then .............im truly sorry!! Aint.no tune like your own personal tune!

The first trip I made in my truck was to IL pulling trailer with 6000lbs approx and it was like 8-10 degrees whole trip. My mileage never changed but I have a 6.2 also. I do live in south in AL but it was under 15 degrees for about 3-5 days and didnt get over 25 for 2 weeks almost and my dads 5.3 wasnt affected. Not sure why its affecting yall up north trucks? Maybe yalls gas is really not as good. Maybe its greater than E10 why not buy a test kit and test it. Im not ragging on you just trying to be helpful. BTW the dealers are not always the smartest cookies in the bunch! Applies for all brands. They still learning about these newbies too!!

Where did you get your info?
-
I bet there will be lighter valves in the vettes heads and possibly sodium filled or some minor differences in valvetrain. Not sure if ours are hollow stem or what.

Why are you hunting non ethanol?

Ohhhhh Myyyyy Goddddddd!!!! Let it get broke in for crying out loud!!!! 702 miles really? 6 mile trip really??? You never gonna get mpg with that short of a trip!! Just the facts! Im at 6500 miles and still learning things about my V4 mode!!! Drive it and memorize your terrain. Know where the next hill is get momentum up to climb it! Let completely off gas going down it so truck will go into decceleration fuel cutoff mode!! Know where your stop signs are coast up to the sign!! Dont drive like a woman on again off again!! Go further than 6 miles!!! How many stop signs you have in those 6 miles? If there is 1 then thats too many for any real mpg numbers to be descent! Dealer cant fix this!! It has a V8 go buy a electric car if you never gonna get farther than 6 miles from home!! It has nothing to do with the dealer or GM or you truck!! Its all in the type of trip you make!! The terrain where your driving. For example, I live 1 hr from Tuscaloosa,Birmingham,Tupelo and Florence. Here to ttown is 19-20 mpgs!! Here to tupelo is 18-19 mpgs! Here to florence is 18-19 and here to Bham is 15-16 no matter how you drive!!! Sometimes you need to accelerate fast to get up to speed then drive normal!! If your always accelerating you will never get good mileage! Try driving like an idiot for just a minute then coast the rest of way!! It actually works!!
-
Ton J , you my friend do not know what you are talking about and for you to say that anyone on here getting better than 16-17 is full of it then you are just plaine retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop showing your ignorance and think before you speak!!! I have a 6.2 that will average what yours does and I drive extremely agressive!! Just made a trip to VA with 500 lbs in bed and had cruise on 80!! Calculated at pump it got 18.2 on first 550 miles and truck showed 19 on dash. Second 550 miles was coming back home in a storm running into a head wind and calculated 17.9 and showed 18.2! So to get on here and call people liars basically you show who you really are!! Maybe your truck is just ak piece of sh-- and doesnt get good mileage!! Ever think of that? Meanwhile back at the ranch on the original topic!! Men , yall need to be sure and let your truck get 2-3000 miles of break in before you start seeing the mpgs the truck will actually get!! Break em in good!! I personally break mine in on the floor!! WOT!!! Just not gonna say thats the best way though!! Sorry for my rant TonJ but come on man the dealer is the dealer thats all!! They aint the driver just the seller!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^10mpg is not even hardly attainable IMOP

Heres a couple daylight pics. Little blurry. -
You are correct but it only takes 5 seconds for a tuner thats not experienced to F up your trans!! Very easily done! I still believe a 6l90 will last longer with a good tune than without!! However you that choosle to tune make it a point to go back later on in life like 100,000 or 80,000 and get shifts firmed up they will loosen up as trans wears. A good clean firm crisp shift cant hurt a thing though!!

We tuned my uncles and he went back n had all warranty work done at local dealership and they said nothing. I know GM will void your warranty but it also depends on your relationship with the dealer your using. Living in a small town with buddies wrkn at dealership helps! I know of several techs installing aftermarket camshafts under factory warranty when a lifter has scarred camshaft. They have also installed torque convertors and other things such as heads or different things. What it ammounts to is whether your service guy is a dick or not. I understand GM can force them to download file and your screwed but I think it may be able to be gotten by maybe 1 time but if its a major failure like an engine then its not gonna be good news prolly!! Ive already turned off my speedo limiter but not tuned yet. But Im prolly gonna take the plunge!! I also think that the guys doing big tires and lifts are voiding their warranty if the service manager is a dick. If I did wheels tires and lift I would deff tune ECM TCM because trans would prolly end up living longer in my opinion. Give me your opinion on the lifted trucks iCRY

Driving style today was pretty easy. First car I passed was on a long straight so not alot of throttle to do so. Second car was kinda wild!! Alot of throttle!! When jumping on interstate for the mile of it that I ran I jump into traffic and run 80mph till I exit off the mile stretch. Around town pretty easy decelerating and looking ahead as much as possible. Thats where you save alot of gas!! DEFCO is what its called. But I usually drive pretty wild but wife n child was with me so.......... Im still wondering what a 5.3 with 3.73s would do on mpgs!! I know the truck we test drove home for a couple days was terrible on gas compared to a 3.42 truck because it had 3.08s . I would like to think your mpgs around town would come up tremendously with a little gear!!
-
Thats a great thought or imagination to have but these ECMs and TCMs use torque measurements to apply this and that and how to and when to do this or that. Removing TM is not the best way however I understand what you are getting at!! Manage it less GM!!! Come on give us more more!! We can handle it!! Whenn tuning the TCMs you actually dont wanna turn TM off you wanna use it to tune the trans and the ECM. You can just make it lower management or greater torque limits.
