  1. it's not going to warm the air the same way it warms the sensor directly (especially since the sensor is a darker color), though. When the sun is directly overhead, it's going to shine directly on the sensor but not directly on anyone in the cabin, limited areas of the dash, and that's it. Anything else will warmth radiating into the air back off of the dash area. If you park your truck on asphalt in the mid-day sun, the asphalt UNDER the truck is not getting anywhere near as much warming compared to the asphalt that isn't under the truck...
  2. Dealer won't do anything with it. No codes, no problems. That's how it goes now. I had to fight with them to replace a warped piece of plastic on the backside of my steering wheel when I first bought the truck. They kept claiming "all of the other trucks on the lot" were exactly the same. I told them I wanted to have the lead mechanic come out.. After I ran his hand along the very sharp piece of plastic that was protruding, he finally admitted it was dangerous and figured out how to get it repaired. And this dealership is actually one of the better ones in terms of their work (even though they short-filled my oil when they changed it... idiots). And the local GMC dealer told me point blank they will not work on any vehicle they didn't sell even though the GM warranty actually entitles me to have it serviced there.
  3. Raising the temp even by one degree makes it too warm in the cabin. And it completely defeats the intent of "auto" if I have to manually override it. The system in my 2015 worked correctly, year-round. This setup is terrible.
  4. That's fine, but again... that sensor being in direct sun doesn't mean I am. And even if I am, it doesn't mean anywhere else in the cabin is. The way the system is making decisions on what areas to warm or cool clearly shows that the algorithm being used needs improvement.
  5. Thanks for these details... There is absolutely no way I can drive my truck with the temp set to 74 degrees without being in shorts and a T-shirt, and even then I would be way too hot. The "monitors" section is interesting as it seems to further reinforce that the design of this system is bad. - I know the external air temp sensor for my truck is wrong. It read at least four degrees higher than it really is at all times. Dealer refused to do anything about it during multiple visits. - "Calculated" temperatures is not measured. - Ambient light is not a good way to measure heat load. Bright does not mean direct sun, nor does direct sun mean that it's direct on -me- (as opposed to direct on the sensor which is all the way at the front of the dash). After two full years of driving this truck, I still can not figure out how to set the HVAC controls to be comfortable in the spring or the fall (which amounts to half the time I drive the truck since I drive the car more in the summer when the HVAC seems to work ok).
  6. I also always believed it was either Auto (light on) or not... The manual states that is not actually the case as adjusting some settings don't deactivate auto mode in its entirety, but then it says that if you change the setting for where the air is delivered from it DOES completely disable auto made. The fan speed for Automatic mode makes absolutely no sense. Why would I want to set a specific fan speed in Auto mode when Auto mode clearly states it adjusts the fan speed on its own? The entirety of the configuration controls makes zero sense when you look at it holistically. And it definitely does NOT work like vehicles of the past where it either operated fully automatically (including shutting the fan OFF if warranted) or you managed the settings manually. This is just another boneheaded design decision made by GM that further demonstrates their complete incompetence at software design... Yet, they're going to compeltely shove their software down our throats soon...
  7. Similar here, except I want 70 year-round. Works fine in the warm weather when I need A/C, but it's HORRID in the cold weather and it constantly switches on the vents and blows cool air making it extremely uncomfortable. I can't even tolerate moving the temp to 71 or 72 as I sweat my a** off with that setting. This is a horrendous configuration and the way it ACTUALLY operates does not match what the manual states. And since there are "no codes", no one can (or will) do anything about it at the dealership. The ability to troubleshoot and diagnose no longer exists... everyone is a keyboard monkey now that is only able to follow directions from service bulletins that are linked to a trouble code.
  8. I have a 2024 Silverado RST that I bought new after owning my 2015 Silverado LT from new (and driving for 100k miles). The climate control has always irritated me in the cooler weather because it has NEVER worked as I would expect but the local dealer can't find any codes with the scanner so they just keep claiming it's working as designed. Is it, though? Did GM -REALLY- design it this stupidly? Or am I completely missing something? For my specific climate controls, from the manual: A few paragraphs later, it explicitly states that change the Air Delivery Mode Control disables Automatic operation and states that the "system goes into manual mode." Today, it was 40 degrees outside (Fahrenheit). I started the truck and have the Automatic mode enabled with the temperature set to 70 degrees. A few minutes after it starts blowing warm air into the cabin, the top vents open and I have cooler air now blowing directly on me. My 2015 -NEVER- did this in Automatic mode and I end up feeling cold because of that air blowing directly on me. If I change the air handling to be footwell only, the manual seems to indicate that I will lose the temp maintenance function of the Automatic setting. Further, there is a setting in the Infotainment to set the fan speed for Automatic mode to Low, Medium, or High. This does not seem to be a limit and appears to be a fixed fan speed setting for when it is operating in Automatic mode (it never changes in the cold weather, although it DOES run on a few different speeds when it's hot and I'm running the A/C) and is in direct conflict with the statement in the manual about how Automatic mode controls fan speed. This -HAS- to be dumbest design of an automatic climate control system ever. Why in the world did GM do this? More importantly, how can I actually get automatic temperature AND fan speed control at all times without getting hit with cold air during cold temps?
  9. OTA updates -should- be able to download without WiFi or an OnStar subscription... I've never used either in my Silverado OR my Camaro for updates over the years. As long as your vehicle has decent connection from the satellites and a 4G/5G signal around you, it should be able to download the updates through one/both of those.
  10. GM: We're getting rid of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and we're going to write our own! Everyone: Really? What investments are you making in your software development areas? GM: Oh, we're firing all of our software developers at the same time! Everyone: Yeah, that's should work out swimmingly. Again.
  11. I have intermittent drop-outs when starting the truck where the radio goes completely silent for a few seconds. Doesn't happen all the time, doesn't happen the same number of times when it does. Since the update, I now have crackling for the audio of the other party on bluetooth phone calls. My truck will randomly change the specific information screen shown in the center of the dash on startup (I only ever set it to Trip A). My truck will randomly decide to power the radio on "muted" (which is not how I ever leave it). My truck decides what temp air to push through the heat system based far too heavily on the ambient air temp outside. air conditioning seems to work correctly, but it's irritating as hell to have cold air blowing on me inside my truck when a small thermostat on the armrest says it's 45 degrees (and the HVAC is set for 70). I've given up on GM ever figuring out how to fix this stuff, and will be looking to dump the truck and GM all together when I hit 36 months (and, at the rate I'm going, I'll have about 12k miles on it when I do).
  12. It does not work. I've been down this path. I can get the truck connected to the hotspot service on my phone, but the apps do not work. And, frankly, it pisses me off because the main portion of the Infotainment unit WILL NOT read out incoming texts to me without having an active OnStar subscription. I have to switch into the Android Auto (not Automotive) functions that mirror my phone and force THAT to read out the texts. GM has moved safety features like reading out text messages behind a pay-wall.
  13. There's no ability to use a hotspot in my truck for any of the Android Automotive-based apps or features. For example, trying to open Google Maps immediately throws an error that an active OnStar subscription is required. It irritates me to no end that GM puts this stuff into their marketing materials but then purposely prevents you from actually using them with paying them even more money. I have a nice Garmin Nuvi that's going to end up back on top of the dash if this stupidity doesn't stop with car makers.
  14. I don't believe there's a requirement for OnStar to be in a paid mode of any sort. I've only ever gotten one update OTA on my 2024 that I bought in October of 2023 but I am able to run the Update check without being connected to my house WiFi and it says that I have the latest software. Also, I have gotten multiple OTA updates on my Camaro and never had an active OnStar plan on that either, nor does it connect to my home WiFi.
  15. Yes. They sell "data blocker" devices that will restrict connections on USB ports to ONLY the pins providing power. I have them in both the USB-A and USB-C style. While my dashcam doesn't need one, their use does allow my wife to charge her phone via cable without my Infotainment system trying to automatically set her phone up as linked to my truck...
  16. My forward collision alert straight up FREAKED OUT when a dark red SEMI TRUCK was coming towards me in the opposite lane and there were no other vehicles around. The sensors interpreted all that red color as brake lights and, had I had the auto-braking enabled, my truck would have slammed on the brakes and I would have been rear-ended. GM's technology is, overall, very poorly implemented and not at all reliable.
  17. Have you had the communication gateway module recall done? Get that squared away along with ANY outstanding updates for software if you haven't. If that's been done, check your software and see if you need an update... I had issues with a variety of things not working properly from day one with my truck, including the blind spot monitoring stuff (2024 RST). At two weeks old, after allowing an OTA update, all kinds of things started acting up. Dealer had it for a solid week and "found" (and fixed) nothing. On the way home, the truck went into limp mode and every error you could imagine popped up. Went right back and they had it ANOTHER week. Finally found issues with corrupt software in the communiation gateway, re-flashed it, and it was good afterwards. I would expect the recall would provide the same as that one module is critical to all of the inter-device communications in the truck...
  18. I'm pretty sure it was removed from being part of the recall at that point. Contact Chevy Customer Care and have a conversation with them about the entirety of the issue and see if they might be able to assist with a 'goodwill' service to update that software for you based on the following: - GM knows that OTA updates are breaking functionality and issued this recall specifically to address that problem (at least in part) - GM knows there are issues with the Infotainment systems and have built new software packages but have not allowed them out via OTA updates (likely because of point #1) - Specific issues you are having that are addressed in the updates - you will need to know what symptoms you are dealing with to explain to them When they did mine, the did do a software update which corrected a couple of problems I was having (the biggest of which was the auto fan control not working properly and dropping down to Low if the radio was on). The update they applied, however, introduced NEW issues including static from my speakers when on a bluetooth call, the wipers activating randomly when I turn on the directional, and the selected information screen in the center of my dash randomly changing to one of a few different info screens that I never use (I have to use the right side 'wheel' to scroll back to the screen I want). Something else that is happening frequently, but I haven't see a lot of posting about this from others, is my radio will be muted when I start the truck even though it wasn't muted when I turned it off. I have also had an issue where the MAX DEFROST setting wouldn't actually defrost my windshield to remove ice from a storm the night before. I don't know if this is related to the software update or not, but I've kind of just given up on the whole thing. The dealership is useless and fixes absolutely nothing, and GM knows about all of these issues but refuses to acknowledge them (let alone fix them). I drove my last truck for 8 years and 100k miles. This one is approaching 18 months and 7k miles and I'll be happy to see it go when it does. I'm done with GM vehicles.
  19. Your dealer is an idiot. It's literally a setting in the Infotainment to disable the auto-update feature. Call Chevy Customer Care and open a case, tell them that your system is completely non-functional due to an OTA update that was automatically pushed to your vehicle and ask them how to get the problem corrected -under warranty- as this is not something you requested or purposefully did yourself, and you were never offered an opportunity to PREVENT the software push.
  20. Mute the stereo and that corrects it. Or get the software recall done and register that specific issue when it goes in as well... Mention that you know there's a software update to fix it. But beware... the update may also introduce a number of other issues you AREN'T currently having... - My center screen in the dash will commonly change from Trip 1 (where I always keep it) to tire pressures or a similar random screen when I start the truck - I now sometimes get static when I'm using my phone (I hear static when the other person speaks, they hear me fine) - Moving the lever to turn on the directional results in the wipers turning on even though I don't actually touch the wiper control on the stalk These are all new issues since I had the software update done.
  21. Sounds like you got a bad over-the-air software update. There would be no other reason for the system to have changed to showing a Caddy logo unless something was borked by them pushing the WRONG software to your truck. This happened to me a year ago with a brand new Chevy and it took me months to get the problem fully corrected. I have since turned off the OTA update option and will never turn it back on because GM doesn't know what the hell they're doing.
  22. Dealing with an incompetent dealership service team? Yeah. Happens every time I have to take my truck in for warranty work or a recall. My truck no longer goes to the dealership until I have a case open with Chevy and have discussed the work to be done with an agent.
  23. I got a letter about a recall. Booked the service, had it done. The app never notified me about an open recall. Two weeks later, GM updated their info to show my service had been done. A week after that, I got another letter about the recall. Their process, like their software, is terrible.
  24. I received notice of needing an update via recall multiple times. Seems like the dealership is slow to update records, or maybe GM just doesn't intake the information and update in a timely fashion. Same exact thing occurred for me and dealership told me I was all set. A week or so later, the information online was updated to reflect the same via GM.
  25. Great news... I -never- had this issue prior to the recall and it is now confirmed as YET ANOTHER problem that has been introduced to my truck.
