  1. Define "fail." The one and only OTA I did on my truck -seemed- to be fine... Until all sorts of weird stuff started happening. Also, due to what seems like a fairly significant number of trucks that were 'bricked' due to bad OTA updates, it definitely seems like GM determined that their OTA process and the underlying software that is/was the base firmware of that module was the root cause and needed a manual update to correct the issue and ensure the problems didn't persist.
  2. That's a generic way to admit that the OTA process was borked from the start due to bad software on the module and the only way to correct it was via a manual reprogramming (recall).
  3. The -XX seems to be like a revision number. For example, the one you linked is -03 and would be superceded by a -04 version of the document. The revisions will add VIN's, but it may also update specific fixes that are being targeted. My understanding is that this recall will address the specific concern listed (possibly why it's being done as a recall since it's important that everyone gets it and many, like me, refuse to allow the OTA's due to historical issues) but may also address other problems that would have otherwise been addressed through an OTA. We shall see if I ever get my truck back as I will look to see whether there's a pending OTA or not afterward. And I do know that a software update released somewhere in the last few months or so specifically addressed the HVAC fan cut-out and radio audio drop-out issues at startup... I also know from my own personal experience that the Data Gateway is a critical piece in these vehicles - every single component that has any sort of communications / monitoring associated with it has that data pass through this ONE module. If anything there is off, it can cause a meltdown of the truck...
  4. GM has dropped all Android Auto in the last couple of years moving to Android Automotive. The most significant difference is that Android Auto is sort of 'mirroring app' to bring app info from your phone to the Infotainment while Android Automotive is the full operating system for the Infotainment being native Android. As a consumer, the most noticeable difference with the two is that Android Automotive can't do anything without a subscription that Android Auto can do natively. No voice prompts, no reading of text messages, no Google Maps, etc. Basically, GM has put convenience and a large amount of safety behind a pay-wall with the newest vehicles.
  5. Wasn't that layoff predominantly due to the change in how much they were planning on building into the EV's? They were originally claiming they were completely dumping CarPlay and Android Auto and writing their own product but the initial code was garbage AND they had to acknowledge that EV's weren't selling like they (still) believe they will.
  6. Based on a couple of posts in this thread, they may be 'slow-rolling' the recalls so as to not overwhelm the system. If you have random cutouts and the HVAC drops fan speed to low (while on AUTO) at the first radio cutout after starting the truck, then you need the update.
  7. Generally, who cares what it means unless you're actually a developer or something? If you really want to dig into deciphering, take a peek at this: https://www.howtogeek.com/how-to-check-android-build-number/
  8. Yes. The "version" has gone from 10 to 12. Your comparison to determine which one is newer is done. If you have a version of 12 installed, and another version of 12 becomes available, then you start looking at the numbers AFTER the 12 to understand which one is newer.
  9. I think you start by comparing the "12" to the "10" (seems to indicate the major Android version, and 12 is larger/newer than 10) and everything beyond that has to do with the specific details around when the software packages were compiled I would imagine.
  10. I had a notice in the app about the recall, but I had no idea it was there until AFTER I had received the email. The app sucks and I never use it as it provides absolutely zero value to me...
  11. Zero info. However, I'm wondering if that's because the module is fried and the truck can't report information properly at this point?
  12. There is no "Update" section under Vehicle Status on my app. I have looked through every section of the app and there's nothing there.
  13. Nothing like that in the app for my Chevy.
  14. I don't know about the 9/23 update. My truck is a 2024, and I bought it (late Oct. '24) about a month after it hit the dealer's lot. I do know that an OTA hit it within a couple of weeks but I couldn't tell you when it may have been originally released. A couple of weeks after that, the problems started. Passenger side lane assist wasn't working correctly, touch screen wasn't responding correctly, EPB setting itself pretty much constantly (on level surfaces), CEL that was triggered by ABS "communications" problems, and a bunch of other stupid stuff. Dealer had it a week, did pretty much NOTHING, and handed it back. On the way home, CEL, Reduced Power, Service Steering Column Lock (which my truck doesn't have), and every other possible error you could imagine. Went right back to them with a case from Chevy and they had it another week before they reprogrammed the Gateway Communications Module due to software corruption (potentially, the same module they fried on the truck with this visit). Since the CEL / ABS issue, I have turned off all OTA's and refuse to allow them any more on the truck due to how many people are having problems with them causing issues - including "bricking" their trucks in their driveways.
  15. One of the changes it is supposed to bring that I am looking forward to is one that you may not have noticed needing to be fixed... If you start the truck when it's hot inside the cab, and you have the HVAC set to AUTO, it kicks on full blast initially. As the radio goes through its startup process, the audio will cut out multiple times and return, but the first drop-out coincides with the fan speed dropping down to the lowest setting and basically just staying there. The software update is supposed to fix that along with the audio drop-out issues so that neither of those things occurs going forward.
  16. A) The slated time allotted for this update appears to be two hours based on the conversation I had with the Service Writer when I made my appointment. B) The length of time indicated is apparently "enough" that GM will cover the cost of a loaner / rental. C) My truck went in this morning for this update along with a couple of other small items to check / correct under warranty. I will not be getting my truck back at this point until AT LEAST Monday because... They fried the Serial Data Gateway module in my truck attempting to perform the update. According to what the Service Writer told me when he called, they attempted to perform the update and when they connected the module they use to do the programming, it shorted out the Gateway Module and my truck is now sitting in a bay in their garage, completely dead. They apparently located a part with another dealer in this region and were attempting have it brought in by end of day today, but there's no confirmation on that. If it doesn't show today, then they would expect to see it Monday. When they DO get the part, they will have to install it and perform diagnostics to determine if anything else got fried as well. Based on GM's "not quite in time" method of stocking and delivering parts, I have zero confidence that I will get my truck back on Monday and would not be at all surprised if it ends up sitting on their lot for quite a while. My service experience with GM over the last four years or so has now just simply become comical. We shall see...
  17. I've seldom found one that actually worked terribly well. My understanding is that on the refresh trucks, it's only in the ones with the upgraded Bose and the setting is called "Bose AudioPilot" (which would be available from within the audio option like when you're playing the radio and tap the little gear / note icon in the upper right. For the Sierra's, I believe it only exists on the Denali Ultimate and AT4 trims. FWIW... I had to create a driver profile in my truck just to unlock the option to set the startup volume limiter (in case you leave the volume up too high when you turn the truck off). This setting is tied to a PERSON instead of having a value tied to the vehicle as a default. GM is the absolute stupidest company out there when it comes to developing software. It's like they've never owned a vehicle...
  18. No. Exactly the opposite. The feature seems to be available in the highest trims - the ones with the least chance of noise infiltration due to how they're built. So, the ones that don't benefit from it are the ones that have it.
  19. It really comes down to how much road and wind noise makes it into the cab. And that can vary from one person to the next quite a bit. Why GM opted to only add this feature into certain trim levels is a bit confusing as it seems to be only in the trims that -should- have the lowest amount of noise infiltration.
  20. Different brand, different problems. They ALL have issues. The problem is their software design - they suck at development.
  21. The passenger side detection system is definitely better, no more warnings about ABS issues, no limp mode, etc. The infotainment screen's "accuracy" requirement is still way too fine for a vehicle in motion (but it does seem a bit better) and the wireless will never work right because of stupid programming stuff on GM's part. Here's the part that would concern me.. Mine was fixed in January. Yours just started having this issue. Either the dealership borked something with the programming (it's entirely possible they allowed the OTA update instead of manually programming it) or the latest software is broken in some other way.
  22. It started with a check engine light. Pulling the codes indicated a "communications error" with the ABS module (made no sense). I cleared that code and continued to watch for it to re-appear. My passenger side lane detection worked very inconsistently. It would often not detect a semi truck next to me but would commonly 'warn' me about the guardrail in the shoulder. Radio would cut out right after starting, wasn't loading the driver profile I created. Touch screen on Infotainment is 99% non-responsive unless you are completely stationary and can exactly touch specific spots on the screen (kind of pointless in a vehicle that requires you to do so much through the touch screen and is meant to be in motion). Wireless charging was erratic (still is - I've given up hope on this EVER working correctly). Took it to the dealer to address these issues a laundry list of cosmetic problems that were a fight to get fixed. They had it a week and fixed NOTHING. On the way home from the dealership after picking it up, the check engine light came on, I got warnings for "Service Stabilitrack", "Service Steering Column Lock" (which my truck doesn't have - first clue that GM borked it), "Reduced Power" (limp mode), and all kinds of other things. My code reader had a laundry list of codes about all kinds of faults, misfires, and communications issues, and the truck was running like complete crap because of the limp mode. I was able to finally get the truck restarted WITHOUT being in limp mode and drove it directly back to the dealership and told them I didn't want to hear from them until it was fixed and verified as being fixed. I needed a case with Chevy to get them to do an actual work on the truck and all that they claimed they did was to re-flash the communications module stating that it was "partially corrupt" (which is a lie).
  23. Warranty work is paid by GM. In order for the dealer to be paid for performing that work, the customer has to sign a form. I 100% -AM- expected to be notified that they will be performing operations on my vehicle that I did not explicitly request before it makes it onto the repair order. The Infotainment system in these new trucks is garbage. The communications processes among / between the different control modules is garbage. My truck was fine off of the lot in October '23 and started having issues two weeks later after installing an OTA update. problems got progressively worse until everything went to complete hell in early January. At that point, the dealer had already had my truck a week and found "no problems" with the litany of items I reported. It wasn't until the truck half disabled itself while in use that they magically discovered a software problem in the Communications Gateway Module and re-flashed it. Their claim was that it was corrupt, my believe is that it was yet another example of GM pushing the wrong software to a vehicle during the OTA update process. Good to know that GM has effectively "given up" on trying to create their own software for the Infotainment system but the fact that they laid off so many software engineers and stripped down a team that already didn't know how to manage software and release cycles is scary.
  24. To be fair, I -never- had an issue with OTA updates in the Camaro, and had a couple of quirky issues get corrected via those updates. It's something about the current updates for the trucks, specifically. It's like they do not have the VIN's correctly mapped to different (appropriate) updates or they're using one update file for every truck and the systems aren't able to install ONLY the correct components. This debacle is a big part of why I have zero faith in GM's go-forward intent to fully dump Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in favor of their own software. Even with the current move to Android Automotive, there are issues with how it works.
  25. OTA updates are problematic because of the update. Many people are getting updates that are not intended for their vehicles and it's messing up the systems in the trucks leaving things in a partially or totally inoperable state. I allowed an OTA update shortly after I bought my truck last October and almost immediately had a check engine light illuminate for ABS communications issues. I cleared that and had started building out a list of items I needed the dealer to check due to not operating correctly (passenger side lane indicators, problems with touch screen responsiveness, EPB setting itself every time I parked in my driveway, and a myriad of other issues. I brought it in and they claimed zero issues (after having it four days. I picked it up and halfway home had every conceivable warning go off including reduced power and steering column lock warning (my truck doesn't have a steering column lock). I shut it off and was able to get it restarted without reduced power and took it right back. Another week later and a case with GM and they "found" a software corruption (from the update) in the Communications Gateway Module. Since clearing that problem, most of the gremlins are gone (although the truck still completely violates the process for the EPB and sets it 100% of the time I park in my driveway which is completely level). I will never allow an OTA update on that truck again because what I experienced is the extremely mild version of what many others have experienced as a result of the updates (only their trucks bricked and had to be taken to the dealer by flatbed).
