HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
2strokes are terrible and will require that you cut the dust caps open. I'd go with HID if you want to start cutting. If you want plug and play, the new Xenon Depot H11's work with our factory dust caps installed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 3,363 replies

I have the same muffler. Deleted rear and flapper. Sounds nice in the truck. Kiddos still sleep fine, even long road trips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

2015 Silverado to 2016 Conversion!!!

Personally, I'd trade mine before doing this. It's like the guys who changed their front clips to 2500's or Escalades. Any worries you are creating a Frankenstein that you will never be able to trade or sell? -

Disabling Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
DAP56 replied to LTZTom's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Agreed, my 2012 Mercedes GL450 (x164) had the light control completely locked out. I wasn't even able to turn off the headlights without shutting the car off. It was some kind of a 'safety lighting package'. I'd cycle the light control and nothing would happen. Night or day, the control was completely locked out. Unreal. HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Those will not fit, they are H1. You need H11. Secondly, I have heard that using LED's that have cooling fans should NOT be used inside of headlights with dust caps. I'm not sure the stock cap will clear the back of that fan, anyhow. I have purchased a set of LEDs from XD until I find OEM black LTZ headlights to send to FAST for an FXR retrofit... The XD H11 LEDs have cooling ribbons coming off the back, no fans.- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I'm hoping that us '14-'15 1500 owners will be to buy the 2016 2500 HID or LED OEM components from GM and retrofit our existing headlights. That way we can stick with our larger 3" projector size. I think the 2016 1500 has a 2.5"... Somewhere, GM designers got it in their heads that the public likes "small headlights", due to the success of the camaro. In fact, we like high tech & High performance headlights and could give a shit less about size if they look nice and perform well.- 3,363 replies

What did MVI charge you for that? The lack of pricing on the net leads me to believe the price may be different for everyone. Does MVI programming trigger the camera to come on automatically when the front crash indicators are triggered? Or is this a simple video in where you have to switch the source manually if you want to see what's in front? If that's the case, then it is Strange that the video turns off at any speed. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

What do you mean you "lost your headlights"? Can you elaborate? What kit did you have, wiring harness, etc? Where did it fail? This is exactly why I am hesitant to pull the trigger. Don't want to lose my headlights, especially in a storm. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
These are discussed further back in this same thread. My take on them was that they are cheap construction with pot metal inside and they don't match up to OEM spec on the insides. Holes/mounting hardware in different places than OEM. The projectors are worse than OEM and you can't swap them out for the FXR with bracket without some serious modding. There has been people here who has modded them before. I was going to go that route, swap out the LED's in the middle for really good ones and then swap out the projectors. I decided not to once I heard the poster's experience.- 3,363 replies

You still have to cut the extended cap. The difference is that you can still get the dust cover on. Some members have been getting by just fine drilling a hole in the stock cap, they must be using low profile connectors to the D2S bulbs... Either way, a hole must be drilled to let the wires pass through. rdtpp1991 in post #1998 above is the latest to drill a hole in his stock dust caps...- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Here's the link below. I can't remember what page these are on in this posting. Expensive, but worth it. A few members have tried these besides the member who designed them. I believe these caps may even have clearance for an LED bulbs with the fans on the back. I'm not sure if anyone has tested that yet or not. You can buy two of these for $160, or pay $65 for an extra OEM GM set, and have to drill them out and then try to water proof them. I would prefer this way. What I would really like to see if someone has modified the ANZO "U Bar" headlights with FXR projectors. I'm willing to bet they too are cheap pot metal like the OEM knockoffs, and it is doubtful the FXRs with adapter would line up properly. My LTZ has 250 miles on it, just drove for an hour in the dark tonight. The stock lights are TERRIBLE, the shadows kept making me think there was Debri in the road. Even my wife thought she saw things in front of us. The funny thing is, the halogen 5202 fog lights put our more light than the H11 projectors. Sad face. http://www.shapeways.com/product/FTQHHLVEP/one-thinner-extended-silverado-headlight-cap?li=more-from-shop&optionId=56102883- 3,363 replies

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
DAP56 replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Guys, buy the $100 each custom made deeper caps to allow your HID system to be as OEM as possible. This is the route I plan to take. I'm not cutting anything. I'm not doing the retrofit until I find another set of LTZ headlights to mod. I want to have a stock set for the next 3 years/36K miles just in case... Links to the caps are in the huge thread somewhere. Expensive but worth it.- 3,363 replies

Picked up my Darth Vader looking 2015 Silverado Custom Sport Plus LTZ Z-71. I love it. My initial thoughts and questions: Going with Gibson or Corsa, haven't decided yet. I like the factory tip so much, I may just start with replacing the factory muffler and go from there. Those of you who went with Gibson, what part # did you use? Anyone else have an issue with the factory vinyl tonneau cover bouncing around while driving at high speeds? IT seems like someone may have taken it off and not re-installed it correctly. I haven't had much time with it, but I can't even figure out how to take it off. The metal support rods that run perpendicular to the bed are bouncing up and down, under the vinyl. Just an annoying sound, that's all. Only had 10 miles on it when I get it. Got a great deal, otherwise was going to wait for 2016. I like the looks of this better anyhow. The dealer said it was the most expensive half ton they ever had on the lot, made me feel a bit foolish, but I got a good deal. The 22" wheels looked ugly as hell in photos, but in person they are SWEET. I will not be swapping these out like I thought I would (unless I can find a 24" OEM repro on eBay)... Does anyone know if there are center caps with black bowties? I black out the bowties and the center caps and steering wheel all come in gold. I saw what Chevy offers, and they don't offer black. 6.2L Engine, 8 speed Tranny with every option available..... Overkill I know. Sorry for rambling, been reading for a month and wanted to wait until I signed the paperwork to post like this. Better photos to follow. PS - the OEM headlight performance isn't THAT bad. Sure, it is ugly, yellow halogen light, but I could see just fine. This forum scared the crap out of me when I started reading over the month it took to find this very truck I was looking for. I almost decided to buy a Raptor. I'm SO glad I didn't now. The hi-beams are very serviceable, probably going to swap out the 9005's for an HIR1 (9011) and going to swap out the H11's for an H9. Both are two halogen bulbs that are 65W instead of 55W, with increased lumens. I will post back with my findings. Sure, my '07 Escalade had better light, as does my wife's 2012 Mercedes GL450. Heck, my mom's 2004 Cadillac SRX had the best HIDs I've ever seen. Those are true HD. I would compare these trucks to the '07-14 GMC Denali headlights. Not THAT bad, but not HID either... If I can find a set of OEM housings in black for $300-400 (GM made, not knockoff), I will do the FXR-3.0 conversion with 4300K HID D2S bulbs. I will keep a stock set at all times because of the issues I read about with the HID retrofits. Just my .02 after reading all of the 133 pages, 1991 posts in the MotoMedic created (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/user/34923-motomedic/) "HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit" (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/152762-hid-headlight-bulbs-hid-projector-retrofit/page-1) post. It was a chore to read, so, I think it would be helpful if the Sierra's and Silverado's were seperate. It seemed like 2/3rds of the post were related to Sierra, and 1/3rd related to Silverado. -

What wheels are these? Look like OEM style 26"s? WOWSERS... I want 24" OEM style replicas if I can find them... Larger OEM style wheels look stock, but way better than 22" IMHO. -

I like these wheels so much.... Picking up my 2015 custom sport plus LTZ Z71 Silverado with 2LZ on Wednesday... I may want to swap out the black 22's for these!
