  1. I too believe that. I'm also aware that of the 8 billion people now alive; belief and observance could not be more fractured toward him. I see how that gets us in trouble. I submit to the idea that he gave us the choice to live without him, just not the ability. It generates "Odd Thoughts" and sometimes they make to print.
  2. Odd thoughts. I went a period of life where I didn't hear my fathers voice. About 35 years I believe. Should I conclude that because he was silent he never existed? Should four of my children who had never heard him speak, never saw a tangible benefit (yea, their existence wouldn't dawn on them as a benefit) conclude he was dead or again, never existed? Or, might I conclude he was observing from afar and was so pleased with my life he felt no need to communicate? Oh if I were that arrogant I suppose. And arrogant that would be. Or, might I conclude he was observing and altering his Will as my life progressed. Perhaps that. Would I welcome his voice? Would I fear it?
  3. It is that hard I used to think the most difficult part of being decent was remaining balanced. Yes, that takes some effort. Like things often do, pinning a thing down is the providence of definitions. Decent is a concept for humanity. It's an absolute with God. It's also why most people reject his definitions and his Sovereignty and authority. Every faction and each person want's that for themself. Odd me thinks. They created nothing. They sustain nothing. This difficulty only exist due to the demand of the selfish to exact a result they are not due. Anyway.... This one is about 'effort' or 'difficulty' in exacting moral excellence. Be honest and your honesty is taken advantage of. Be moral and you morality is taken advantage of. Is two examples enough? So the effort isn't in maintain balance but in being patient. But on what OR could it be on whom?
  4. So Nick. You're chart shows the influence oil temp has on viscosity. Good that makes this easy. So viscosity, not GRADE is the important factor. Let's pick a clearance that asks for a *W30 or 9.3 to <12.5 cSt to make this easier. Would that be the 5W30 with a Supertech label that has a new D6616 viscosity of 8 cSt? Or a HPL No-VII 5W30 with a D6616 of 11.2 cSt or a Pennzoil 0W40 OCP polymer 500 miles into the run with a D6616 of under >11 cSt? Yes, three GRADES that meet the same viscosity spec. IN PRACTICE. Now tell me why the manual doesn't state the use of a heavier oil for towing when oil temperatures will be well over 250 F and thinner mid winter under 200 F? Tell my why the 6.2 with the same materials and clearances across several platforms calls out 3 different grades. Tell me why Mitsubishi England manuals allow of anything between 0W20 and 20W50?
  5. Every once in awhile I have to remind the crowd....I DON'T CARE. It has no impact on my equipment or my bank account. I'll tell you where the wall is but if you insist on walking into it.... Riddle me this Batman. What do I gain in my error? You think someone is subsidizing my writing? Tell me what my gain is by anyone agreeing or disagreeing with me. How do I profit from any of this? I'll be dead in a few years or sooner. Why would I care what you think or what you believe. Try looking for what is RIGHT instead of CANCELING what doesn't fit your BELIEFS. If the lube is hydrodynamic then the material doesn't matter, does it. Nick, take that fancy chart and apply it to some real motors. Then ask yourself what that has to do with REALITY. Use an OBDII reader and STUDY it instead of listening to 'experts'. That chart is two grades plus/minus based on ACTUALL oil temperatures NO ONE has answered my question. Brand a 5W30 has a D6616 of 8 Cst and Brand B 12 cst. A full grade difference and NONE of you that are not doing the study know which witch is which. And yet you act like you know something you don't. You call yourselves experts? Chemical Engineers? Mechanical Engineers? Lord.....
  6. We got flat outplayed. I'm good with that. O line didn't show up. Last one we lost was identical. No O line. BUT, first call of the game; Pass interference call, my phone blew up. OMG the Eagles have to play the Chiefs and the Zebra's. How unfair. Not another peep once the Eagles had a commanding lead then.....Eagle #90 hit Pat in the head and guess what. No call for the foul, which Brady called out and not a word from Eagles fans about the Zebra's. Then the wife tells me that the Eagles fans BOO Taylor when they showed her on the Jumbo Tron. So, only a wrong if you're loosing but a right if you're winning? Grow up. There's a reason I don't like humans. Moral is a one way street. I rest my case. The GNX was nice. The music wasn't....music. I too am old.
  7. WEAR That few enough words? Second question is YES. ******************************** I have shown you an example of a licensed Dexos1Gen3 5W30 whos' VOA ASTM D6616 is 6.9 cP (8.3 cSt on a 8.3 density) There is no requirement for this test in the license but that value IS the viscosity in the bearing under load and speed and is OUT OF SPEC LOW. That value is in the middle of the SAE 20 range and a tenth about the SAE 16 spec. I've show two oils in the 5W30 range that use 0-5 SSI polymers that pass this test remaining in the MIDDLE of the 5W30 100 C viscosity value and are able to pass the Dexos1Gen3 requirements ON PERFORMANCE, although not licensed. Listen like you care about the truth for this next paragraph.... When I don't know what polymer is being used I PERSONALLY go up a grade KNOWING that if they are using OCP and there is the pretty standard 20-25% shear induced D6616 loss; that the 5W40 I chose from a box store will in deed and in fact, in use be running the REQUIRED minimum viscosity IN SERVICE. ******************************** So question back at you... WHY NOT use an oil that exceeds? WHY not use an oil that in service is IN SPEC.
  8. How many times has this been asked and answered? Yes bearing tolerances are different. They are tighter but that isn't the question to ask is it. The bearing CLEARANCES are the same and have been since we quit using poured Babbitt. Thou of clearance per inch of journal diameter within a certain tolerance. So NO is the answer.
  9. Three in a row. You look desperate. You my friend are indeed a frog. The Kool-Aid drinking variety. Question. If I have a spot of rust on my fender should I park on the tracks and let the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe run over it and see what I can make of the pieces afterwards? And there it is.... MISTER you are smarter than that. Get out of your head and THINK. How smooth can a surface get before it will no longer "WETS". That number was know before 1939. There is a MINIMUM HTHS for MAXIUM WEAR ABATEMENT. It hasn't changed in about 85 years. And it never will. REGULATION however will. And has. And acts in opposition to WEAR. Hardness, yes, also know since WWII. WT**** Terry.
  10. I ain't that hard boss.
  11. While true in the strictest sense, the point was that; as I am accused of being blindly brand loyal that nothing could be further from the truth. I use what I use because I believe it to be the best I can afford and source. If I loose that source or it gets beyond my ability to pay then I go to the next on the list. I don't buy just any old thing marked Red Line.
  12. Machinations III Frogs boiled slow haven't a clue they are being boiled at all. In fact he just might ask you to pass the back brush and some of that body wash. Tell you how fine the water is and even how whatever is cooking on the stove really smells good. It's just their nature. Boiling the consumer slowly is the business of business. The art of marketing is getting the buyer to believe that this inferior product isn't just inferior, it's a game changer. Did you catch it? Last four words in that last paragraph. "It's a game changer." Say that with a wink and the right background music against a blue sky and you turn a negative into something positive. "A game changer" in no way means anything more than there has been a change. Tide Detergent was the first to advertise "New and Improved" when TSP was ban in laundry products. The statement is now and was then a deceit. It was new. The thing that made it work so well had been removed and replaced with less effective and yet more costly alternatives. And it did 'Improve" the outlook for our environment. Not a bad thing but not what the label implied either. A legally told LIE that turned the heat up on the water ever so slightly. To those that were not paying attention anyway. I remember my mother hitting the roof after the first load of the "New and Improved" and adding Borax and TSP back into the product. It would take more than a decade for the chemistry to catch up with the promise. But even today, what we have is only equal to, not surpassing. I only took two semesters of Marketing over 50 years ago, but I remember allot and I never looked at my world the same since. Kids, it's like living in a fish bowl of Guppies. That said, if you tell that frog he IS dinner and show him convincing proof and he still insist on his course then is that frog worth any continued effort.
  13. Can I get an AMEN?
  14. Saw a news story today on the game. A poll that has over 2/3 of America not wanting the Chiefs to win a third consecutive Super Bowl. Chris Jones, in an interview, said about it that people like change even when the change is bad just for the sake of change. People don't mind them winning a dozen of them, not just a threepeat. Can't even get my head around that. In a separate poll I conducted I found 100% of Chiefs fans wanting a threepeat.
  15. That stuff isn't limited to the aged. My oldest daughter did things like that when going through puberty. Milk in the laundry room and bleach in the frig. As my hearing fades I find I leave the water running at times. Left the burner on the stove the other day. Glass top electric so easy to miss but still.... I have this habit of removing the pan from the burner. So even if left on a fire is unlikely. It's a good habit IMHO. I have two younger brothers that swear dad is about to pull his last breath based on their interactions with him. They look at him like a monkey in a cage all sad faced and don't try engaging him. Sad stuff. I don't see it myself. I can still get him to walk with me and watch a movie or talk for hours. They worry about him sleeping allot. Lord boys his 96! He's bored silly and fills the void with TV. To much news which alone will keep his blood moving. He knows his limits and abides by them really well. I've never felt the need to have "that talk". Now that said, if his wife passes before him I'll rethink that. She's just two or three years older than I and quite capable of his current care levels. Frankly, I expect he will take himself to the VA home if that happens. He has a plan and sharp enough to execute it. If he asks, I have a room for him but I will honor his wishes in whatever he decides and enjoy the heck out of him while we have the time. Every situation is different and I'm just rambling like an old fool. Not giving advice my friend.
  16. Machinations II Did we agree that 0W20 is a fuel economy move? That we would go lower but wear would make life so short they couldn't afford the warranty work. This hasn't been happening like setting that pot of frog on a blow torch. API Spec SAE 30. 100 C viscosity range 9.3 cSt to <12.5 cSt. 150C HTHS 2.9 cP minimum. Valvoline SAE 30. 100 C 10.3 cSt. 100 C HTHS 10.2 ish 150C HTHS 3.3 cP. Warren Oil 5W30 100 C 10.9 cSt 100 C HTHS 6.9 cP! 150 HTHS 3.2 cP 100C SSI is 9.4 cSt. That part in red is the viscosity the cam and lifter see. This is a SAE 20 with a 5W30 label and it's legal. AMSOIL SS 5W30 100 C 10.3 cSt. 150 C HTHS 3.1 cP AMSOIL Euro 5W30 100 C 11.3 cSt 150 C HTHS 3.6 cP (Huston, a winner!) Red Line HP 5W30 100 C 11.9 cSt 150 C HTHS 3.7 cP (Competition is AMSOIL SS not EURO) Red Line HP Euro 5W30 100 C 11.6 cSt 150 C HTHS 3.6 cP. I'd bet dollars to donuts that both of these brands use a Star polymer and have an SSI of 0. MPT30K 5W30 100 C 10.9 cSt 150 HTHS 3.9 cP. Also has a SSI of 0 and 100 C HTHS shear loss of 0% This one uses NO VII. Back in the day we had zero shear down because we didn't use VII's and reasonable HTHS values and SSI 0 results Big Box Oils are chock full of low grade VI and in use, under shear are a grade lower than their label. THAT is how they get the Fuel number while the public is thinking this oil is so advanced we get better mileage from the same SAE Grade. Oh brother. Oh it's the same GRADE it just isn't the same viscosity...IN USE AT OPERATING CONDITIONS. Then the OEM increases the water temp, the oil temp and load and gets that viscosity lower and the film thinner. It has said SAE 5W30 on the bottle for decades but the vis has been on a slide to zero ever since. Partly by chemistry and partly by REGULATION. The SAE grades have gotten thinner the HTHS minimums lower and lower. I don't hate or love any particular brand but I use the ones I KNOW have the goods to get the job I WANT DONE, DONE. If Red Line, Torco and MPT all go belly up tomorrow then I go to the next best I can source and grade up. And when they take that option away the nest best I can find. At some point I ride a horse. But I won't swallow the being sold as technology. What I won't do is buy an inferior oil if I have a better choice. I don't base that on blender owned lab work. I do it on tear downs and running UOA/VOA's. This WILL mean that I WILL use some additives. ZDDP. And I'm not using a W20 that in use is a W10.
  17. You nailed sir. Rotating torque would be more accurate and less risky. But I sometimes I am that guy who gets aways with something just because I don't know that I can't.
  18. That work. D'ho! Just because something is new doesn't make it "Better". How did DeepSeek manage to out perform the industries newest chips, brightest minds and most advanced technology with 'ancient technology'? Oh and for a fraction of the cost? PROFORMATIVE research. Actually honest to Pete RESEARCH whose objective was end performance result and not ROI. Remember, you brough this comparison crap up. (Sorry Nick) AMSOIL's SS series is compromised by ROI . Red Line HP is not. (Yet) Both have other product lines to meet those demands so why does AMSOIL dilute their premium product? . I got a questioner from AMSOIL when I got my first order some years ago and I was asked what features of performance I would be willing to compromise to 1.) hold the price point. 2.) To lower the price point? There was no third option provided for improving the product at sacrificed cost to me. That one I would have taken. This indicated to me that Research done there is done to find the, like Mobil after the Castrol debacle, based on ROI first, performance second. There's a confidence builder right there. MPT30K is high on my 'summer oil' radar. No compromise wear protection. They, like the others have more base products. And yet refuse to compromise on their premier series. I can be done. Amsoil is choosing a different path. The SS 5W30 attempts to reach the bottom of the HTHS barrel and rely on 'chemistry' instead. In my world that is bass-akwards. It's how most of the industry does it. So same old, same old in a pretty package and a hint of polarity.
  19. Fair questions. You are familiar with boiling frogs in a pot? What do TRUE synthetics bring to the dance? For the same 100 C viscosity they improve the HTHS viscosity. They are more oxidation resistant. Can, in synergies, improve lubricity, or slickness and due to the high VI's of most reduce the amount of VI needed to span a particular grade. But Nick, this is in response to everything that is being taken away. Lower ZDDP levels, for example, reduce base oil oxidation resistance (they do the heavy lifting) so they TRADE one for the other instead of Synergizing a true improvement. That in response to REGULATION that is requiring lower phosphors levels. Ditto reduced Calcium levels. Often at the sacrifice of TBN which would lower OCI IF a synthetic base stock wasn't helping improve oxidation to begin with. So that is why more common and yet, not always. PAO is being replaced by Group III/III+ and a good dose of marketing As far a not fixing what ain't broke.....PROFIT MARGIN. You run a nice business. How do you like increases in your overhead? What is your response to that? The dog and pony show going on in lubrication is pathetic given the science we have. No new regulation that improves our daily life is made without an ROI. Someone is making a killing on the destruction of ICE. For every one thing they improve (base) they take away that advantage with less of something or a cheaper less effective alternative. (adds) they are in a race to the bottom of the drum. Every generation forgets the past and like Lemmings MUST repeat their forefathers errors. Because hey, every 16 year old believes his fathers is out of touch and an idiot. Every 30 year old thinks those 70 are feeble minded old sots. Here's a question for you my friend. Why do people believe the person that lies to them with the greatest skill? With the biggest 'Branding". The largest marketing budget? The.....
  20. Manipulative Behavior I (Crafty Acts) Let's start with something truly simple. 0W20...Why? Is it because it abates wear better? Improves reliability? Makes it more dependable? C'mon kids, you can do this..... I'll assume you came to the right conclusion. Fuel Economy. Good for you.... Next question... Then why not 0W16 or 0W12 or 0W8 or 0W4 or simply SAE 0? Why stop at 0W20? Wear? Yes! Wear!! The industry is trying very hard to find mechanisms in metallurgy to REPLACE viscosity and AW additives and a few like Toyota think they have this nailed. Spray bores and DLH ring coatings, alternate cam core metals, etc. A few lines back I mentioned AW additives. Which direction have they been going since...say....API service class SH (mid 1990's)? Cut in half! Sulfur? Nearly nonexistent. How's that working out? As a whole how is the reputation of the auto manufactures doing on cam/lifter failures? Bearing failure? Bore polish? Ring failure, mainly in that self same DLH coating? If you are not honest with this question you just don't want an answer or strain one more thought. That's fine. Stop here and check out. ************************ You still here? Question. Are you old enough to remember the introduction of smog pumps (EGR) and Gen I cat converters? A system regulation FORCED on the OEM's BEFORE they had the technology to be successful doing it. And kids old enough to remember, how did that work out for the consumer? What's that? Tanked motor life? For over a decade? While they fumbled around in dark trying not to go broke? Fun times. How about those a bit older. Unleaded Fuel? Valve failures for what seemed like forever before they stumbled onto hard seats. Why? Cause someone "THEY" said you could reduce lead and not effect the mechanical integrity of the unit. More pain and fun. How about my fathers generation. The silent ones. GM took whale oil out of AFT as did Chrysler do to regulation and substituted an untested chemical replacement not thoroughly vetted to what result? Warranty claims that crippled GM and shut down Chrysler for some time. And now as we have a new generation we get to repeat what we repeat every twenty years or so. Before the technology exists we are removing the two things that keep wear at a level that promotes reliable, durable life for a REASONALBE period of time. VISCOSITY and AW additives. What's that? "THEY" say we have this technology and are using it? Yea, go back to the top section and re-ask those questions presented there. Then come back and chastise me some more.
  21. It would be easier if the search feature was used. But alas, no joy so, they keep asking and I keep answering. It seems there is a belief that IF you ask the question often enough the answer will change.
  22. My 2015 had this leak. Found it to be leaking around the seal not through it. New seal with a smear of RTV clear on the O.D. then drove it in. Leak free since. 10 years now. Didn't know about the torque spec. I used a witness mark.
  23. You and a few million other husbands.
  24. Egg Variations I've done about 3 previous post on scrambled and omelet eggs and focused on getting the eggs to turn out. I don't want to rehash that but I hit on some filler combinations that turned out very nice. Pepper Jack. But buy a block and shred it yourself. I do about an ounce per two eggs. Pair that with a small amount of jarred red roasted peppers finely chopped and well drained. If you are dong the omelet let the eggs skin before adding the cheese and it will melt right into the eggs without burning to the pan. If scrambled wait until about half done and it will fold in smoothly and just before they finish a pat of cold butter folded in. Garnish with sweet Paprika and hold the black pepper. Remember, don't over cook the eggs. Not soupy but moist. This comes out sweet, warm and silky. Smoked pork is a nice side. Soft Goat Cheese. is more savory and pairs with pitted salt cured Kalamata olives nicely. Olives on the side not in the eggs. As above and it will melt into the eggs and disappear from site but not the tastebuds.
  25. Quite some years ago (2005) I bought a Royal Enfield Bullet 500 motorcycle. They were built in India from the 1948 English patterns and suffered little more than moving from 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground since. I have other bikes. Modern bikes and this Enfield is the one I rode not just to town but cross country. First time I put a leg over and felt that familiar big single pulse and my ear heard that unique thump-thump-thump it put a smile on my face I could not wipe off. You don't 'ride' an Enfield. You command it and it eagerly listens and responds. Just don't ask it for something it can't give and you will fall for it head over hells. It has a 'quality' none of my American or Asian bikes even comes close to replicating. Sadly production was ended 2009. End of day I wiped her down, fretted out the lifters, cables, brakes and chain and grinned like the Cheshire cat. A machine you could have a relationship with and not just a putty knife like tool in the box. She's in the garage waiting for me.
